So a family of 4 who had it really unlucky could end up isolating for 40 days straight if they get it one at a time but at the end of each isolation, blimey I hope that never happens to anyone!

dementedpixie · 01/01/2021 09:30

You didn't have to restart isolation when it was 14 days. I have the old screenshot to prove it. If she hasn't been in contact with anyone then I would not be isolating again.

This was my concern when it changed to 10days from 14days. I know people whose child/partner/contact started symptoms in day 11-14. Under old rules hey we’re still isolating but under new rules they would have been out form day 10 infectious and spreading it. Not sure why it changed to 10days but suspect it has something to do with schools

Yes. I am in another county though where our guidelines are much stricter and our numbers are much lower.

Northernbeachbum · 01/01/2021 10:01

@thismustbelove I guess it makes total sense, just must be difficult food supplies wise!

Whiskas1Kittens · 01/01/2021 11:11

I am worried about this but want to do the right thing. We are a family of six. We've just come out of isolation a few days ago (dh and I). Now dd has started symptoms and we have three other children. Potentially we could be isolating for 2 months. I wonder if there is a help line to check - you know a real human? Everything I read contradicts the previous.

Whiskas1Kittens · 01/01/2021 11:16

Just realised it's 119 which I sort of knew!

Whiskas1Kittens · 01/01/2021 12:11

OP, I've just rang 119 - I have a similar situation to you. They said that only dd needs to isolate as because of our isolation we are unlikely to be positive. I came off the phone and then considered this. Surely it's wrong? In a family, it is like a mini community - despite us isolating we could all be passing it to each other in a circular fashion. I may be overthinking this but I do feel like the rules need to be stricter.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2021 12:18

@Whiskas1Kittens did you and your dh have covid? What's your timeline with you and your family?

TuckMyWin · 01/01/2021 12:42

This page seems to suggest you don’t:

This is something we're struggling to understand too. Surely it's a common situation! I feel like there's a lot of conflicting advice.

TheoriginalLEM · 01/01/2021 19:07

@tuckmywin that reads if the person develops symptoms diring isolation you don't have to start again but i cant find anything to say what hsppens once out of isolation. Common sense suggests i shouldn't have to

Had she been in contact with anyone else except family? If not, then infection would have come from within the family so you don't need to isolate again.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2021 19:14

And its well known that the incubation period can be up to 14 days. If you go by the old timeline you would not need to isolate again.

Bear in mind it was changed to 10 days to help improve isolation compliance not a change in the science behind isolating
