Is anyone else more scared now than they were in March?

Everything just seems so dark, and even with the vaccines it’s got to get worse before it gets better.
I don’t recall feeling like this in March but I’m genuinely scared now. I’m hoping my health anxiety is at the root of most of it as I’ve been able to stay pretty upbeat and positive until now, I kept thinking vaccine, warmer weather, things will get better but now it seems harder to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Seeing the celebrations in NZ is like looking into another world

Yes, I work in health and see every day how scary this really is, I think it's very worrying how people are more scared about the economy and the impact on their lives

TheVanguardSix · 01/01/2021 13:30

Good Lord kitty, it doesn't get any harder than what you're shouldering. Damn, you need all the silver linings you can get. I sincerely hope 2021 treats you more kindly. Flowers

Downstairs the lack of access to care will only increase as the covid numbers increase. We need to get the covid numbers down so routine ops can resume. Im waiting for an op for my daughter and treatment myself.

I wish they'd go hard to get the numbers down. I want hospitals back... this os currently very scary. If we have a car accident there may not be space in ITU. Its that scary

Bot scared at all, Wasn’t in March either, just so fed up and worried. Mostly about schools closing and the effect on my teen children.

@DownstairsMixUp

redtoothbrush well they are quite happy cancelling people's surgeries and leaving them in paint. My friend has had surgery on her knee cancelled 3 times because of covid, she's not off work because she can't weight bear at all! I am hearing more and more stories of non covid cases being completely left to suffer. My poor grandfather in law died because he was so scared of getting covid, he refused to tell us he'd had a fall and got a cut. Said cut become septic and he died, he would still be here if he wasn't so petrified of even leaving his house. I can see why people are getting angry. We don't have stats and graphs of people that have died because of how much cOvId has restricted access to care or how lockdowns have caused more problems but I bet it is a huge number!
The government's schools open no matter what has been very damaging. I wish they had prioritised health above schools being physically open without social distancing or ppe.

nothemessiah that's an unnerving read. Thanks for sharing though! I feel like my anxiety is validated. I haven't been that worried about it all- concerned, cautious, and compliant but not too scared- until recently.

BexR · 01/01/2021 13:36

I'm less scared now than I was in March. A vaccine is being rolled out, my DC has been to school and not immediately contracted the virus, treatment options have developed.

Yes it's still scary, and I am being as careful as I can, but things are improving.

eeeyulesmiles · 01/01/2021 17:36

From here, compliance collapses, not because people are "bad" or "thick" but for very normal human psychological reasons.

People who aren't bad or stupid can still do bad and stupid things, and someone having predicted it might happen doesn't excuse it, or the rest of us just shrugging our shoulders and treating it as inevitable. We're all influenced by all sorts of pressures but we still have a certain amount of free will. It may be natural for compliance to go down over time, but many many people who can will carry on and we shouldn't give up on that as a goal.

@Notthemessiah

Good reason to be scared according to this epidemiologist:

If the government try and paper this over with the totally ineffective lateral flow tests in schools, it could get a lot worse.

That's my concern.

There's far too much activity designed to make us feel as if things are in hand from this government. It always costs a fortune, and soon inevitably collapses, usually after actively having made things worse. further reducing trust in their competence.

@ATieLikeRichardGere

Also there isn’t good evidence to suggest an age profile difference for the B117 strain. It could yet appear and we should obviously be cautious but we have to look at evidence over anecdote.
