Is it right that Teachers/support staff are expected to carry out testing?

Just that?

Is it right or fair?

Step forward, Kevin’s mum.

It’s going to be a shitshow.

Personally I'm not consenting for my primary age dd to be subjected to this unless it's by properly trained medical staff.

I wonder if there is threshold of refusers though.

What do you mean by threshold of refusers? Am I being slow!?
happystone · 31/12/2020 18:32

I wouldn’t do it. You are not allowed to by law. Could you imagine it you swapped a child and their nose bleed you would be on a charge by a parent for asualt

deflatedballooon · 31/12/2020 18:32

In my area the local authority educational psychologists have been re-deployed. Not too sure how happy they are about it though!

The educational psychologists have been re-deployed to the secondary schools to help do the swabbing I mean.
PurpleDaisies · 31/12/2020 18:33

If children have symptoms they should be sent home and get parents should then arrange their own child tested.

I don’t think this system is designed for symptomatic children. They should be going home for a PCR test like before.

Elephant4 · 31/12/2020 18:33

Why does out government always go for the unrealistic, pie in the sky ideas?

PandemicPavalova · 31/12/2020 18:34

I wonder if say 60 % of students refuse the test, what then? Can school still open?

boredinthouse · 31/12/2020 18:34

I haven't kept up with the new rules, are they testing primary kids or just secondary? I'm going to refuse testing for my DS as he has ASD and would be really distressed. I'll come in and test him if needs be.

starrynight19 · 31/12/2020 18:35

Maybe this is where ofsted could come in useful
and play their part in the pandemic Confused

happystone · 31/12/2020 18:35

Any staff member or member of the public agreeing to someone swapping their child put that adult at risk of a assault charge

Elephant4 · 31/12/2020 18:35

I also worry about kids with additional needs and what provision will be made for them. My DS has sensory issues and every year he flat out refuses the flu spray at school, we have to take him to a separate clinic and pretty much sit on him, the same situation with the covid tests we have had to do on him.

My DD has additional needs too. I won't be giving consent for her to have this. You don't have to.

Stinkyjellycat · 31/12/2020 18:35

I’m nit clear on the detail here. So the kids do the test themselves ie sticking it up their nose? It’s bad enough doing it as an adult - I can’t imagine some kids being able to do it properly, resulting in loads of false negatives. Or do staff actually administer test? That’s a big ask!

happystone · 31/12/2020 18:36

This is a shit ideas from gav

Just secondary for now and apparently rolled out to primary staff by end of January and schools by spring was the last I heard. But that was when it was optional for secondary and it became compulsory overnight so who knows.
PandemicPavalova · 31/12/2020 18:37

What parents should do will be massively confused by offering tests in schools.

How many parents do you think will have a symptomatic child and maybe even look for a local test site, nothing.. Well... They will get tested at school? And send them in??
Quite a few going by the total lack of understanding over self isolate rules!. And I don't blame people for confusion because the information we are being constantly bombarded with is confusing

Now they throw this GRENADE in.

ineedaholidaynow · 31/12/2020 18:37

They won't test a child if they refuse to have a test even if you have given consent

NellyJames · 31/12/2020 18:38

So what happens if a primary school child tests positive? Do the classmates still isolate for 10 days? Does the teacher?

SmellsLikeAHamsterCage · 31/12/2020 18:38

What happens when children that have already had Covid get a positive test? Just thinking, that if they have had it recently they will still test positive, even though they're no longer infectious. 🤷🏻‍♀️

noblegiraffe · 31/12/2020 18:39

So the kids do the test themselves ie sticking it up their nose?

And tonsils.

That is the expectation, yes.

ineedaholidaynow · 31/12/2020 18:40

@NellyJames as far as I am aware it is only Secondary school where daily testing is being used instead of isolation if you are a contact

Backtoblack1 · 31/12/2020 18:40

This is going to be a bloody nightmare for staff!

starrynight19 · 31/12/2020 18:41

The point of the tests is to replace isolating. However it’s not being done in primary schools yet so from Monday I expect them to follow the same rules as they have been doing.
starrynight19 · 31/12/2020 18:42

@SmellsLikeAHamsterCage that’s a good point.

Blubellsarebells · 31/12/2020 18:42

I very much doubt the tests will turn up where they need to be and on time.
This is not going to work for all the reasons stated.
Another poor show/pie in the sky.
