Im starting to think its inevitable that ill catch cv. Im in a primary, dd 1 at University but living at home. Dd2 is at another primary and dh is front line emergency services.
Fingers crossed i guess.

Quite selfishly, I am worried to the point of tears this evening.

I'm a single parent to DD9 who is currently being assessed for autism...just found out that her primary school will not be reopening, but the preschool I work at will be. This means her going in as a keyworker's child, so I can work. They won't be educating her (I'll be trying to homeschool her after work) and she will find the change in routine/familiar faces incredibly upsetting...

We have been alone throughout this. There is nobody I can bubble with for childcare or otherwise. Her father and family have been mixing as normal, so that is not an option.

I'll be working with open windows and cleaning of resources being the only mitigating factors. PPE is not allowed...two year olds (quite naturally) do not socially distance...or wipe their own noses...or cover their coughs.

I just feel like it is inevitable that I am going to catch this now and if/when I do, I just pray I will remain well enough to look after DD, or else we are stuffed.

I love my job, but I love my daughter more and just want to be ok for her...feeling pretty sorry for myself right now.

Dumble that's awful, can you ask for clemency?
Change your working hours?

Take vitamin d, vit c and zinc...

TheFallenMadonna · 30/12/2020 18:50

Secondary AP school. Tier 4. Open for everyone from Tuesday. No idea how we're going to manage the testing. Not convinced of the benefits of lateral flow tests as an alternative to self isolation once the positive tests come in. Eek.

IDSNeighbour · 30/12/2020 18:52

FreddieFox Thanks. I think the primary section of my school will be open so I will at least have some human interaction.

I totally understand the fears of those who are worried for their physical health too. There are no good solutions.

Unfortunately, there seems to be nothing to be done, short of upping my vitamins and anti-anxiety medication. Our preschool is made up of a small team and our contracts are non-negotiable. There is literally no wriggle room...I have to go and get on with it....like so many others...

Sending virtual hugs to anyone that needs one.

Ledkr · 30/12/2020 19:33

Dumbledory. Can you get signed off by gp with your anxiety?

@Ledkr

I don't think so. They reluctantly signed me off for a couple of weeks, when I first went on the medication in the summer, but did not want to renew it. Also, where the preschool is short-staffed, I don't think it could remain open unless we're all on board as it were.

Will just have to be as careful as can be and hope for the best.

ballsdeep · 30/12/2020 19:40

Yep! It's horrible i feel like we are being sent to the slaughterhouse tbh.
I am furious at the government, I am in Wales.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 30/12/2020 19:42

We are closed now for two weeks so me and my colleague are going to spend the next two days getting our remote learning ready. I am ready to do lots of videos and putting up the work. I am aiming to make it as paper free as possible but lots of learning.

I just feel weird, relief but still knowing it's just a delayed return.

Ledkr · 30/12/2020 19:43

It makes no sense at all. Why close all those poor business's and inconvenience so many people whilst keeping the schools open thus prolonging things.
Im more than happy to go to work to look after vulnerable children or essential workers children. Not ideal i know but none of this is ideal for anyone.

I'm not a teacher but I have one Secondary and three Primary DCs.

I am aghast at the situation as it's shaping up for schools. I feel so sorry for school staff and angry that you're being treated in this cavalier fashion.

Is there anything I can do as a parent, in solidarity with teachers, TAs and school staff?

Bluewavescrashing · 30/12/2020 20:20

Boris: we are in a very precarious situation. You must stay at home. Do not mix at all. The NHS is overwhelmed. Covid loves a crowd.

Boris in his next breath: schools are safe.

Wtf?!

Bluewavescrashing · 30/12/2020 20:21

Staff shouldn't be signed off with stress when they aren't experiencing mental health issues. They are being expected to work in unsafe conditions which is grossly unfair.

Chocolate4me · 30/12/2020 20:35

What would happen if teachers said no, they won't go back??? What if one by one they started saying no, got signed off sick with anxiety if need be. What if unions said no, teachers would only do remote learning until they are all offered the vaccinations?

Positivevibesonlyplease · 30/12/2020 20:42

@DBML, @Monkeytennis97 Absolutely.

Flowerblue · 30/12/2020 20:45

I was anxious all last term. I will be anxious this. It’s no fun. I realise statistically that I am at very low risk of actually dying. But that isn’t a lot of comfort somehow. I have a colleague with long COVID. Another who had three weeks in hospital.
Also, why give this virus the perfect opportunity to mutate further?

30not13 · 30/12/2020 20:51

Nursery (private).
Yes I'm worried. And pissed off that we are always totally ignored when we face the same risks as school staff.

ottertail · 30/12/2020 20:58

Very scared and feeling very low. I don’t see the point in life any more tbh. Can’t see friends or family but have to work in unsafe conditions.

psychomath · 30/12/2020 21:26

@IDSNeighbour completely understand that!

In terms of covid risk I'm not really worried for myself but I am for some of my colleagues.

Eaumyword · 30/12/2020 22:33

School Sec in a primary.
I'm middle aged, overweight, medically controlled underlying health condition.
I've been anxious all along, but I suppose will just have to get on with it.
Although I'm admin, they send children to me for general 1st aid and the office is high traffic (photocopier, stationary cupboard etc.)

Eaumyword · 30/12/2020 22:35

Stationery!
The cupboard doesn't tend to move Xmas Grin

Thefeep · 31/12/2020 01:34

My daughter is a primary teacher. She’s not worried but knows it’s going to be a nightmare .

Positivevibesonlyplease · 31/12/2020 09:28

@Keyperfect It’s so lovely to have the support of a parent. Genuinely Flowers.
