Risk from playgrounds

What do you think? Will Boris announce the closure of playgrounds tomorrow? As mum to a 3 year old, I really hope not! But how much risk do you think there is when they’re quite busy? Even though I ask DD to try and keep a bit of space around her, it’s near on impossible when she’s climbing around.

I will actually lose my mind if they shut the playgrounds.
It will be really tough if nurseries are closed but understand the reasoning behind it. But trying to keep a 3 year old entertained (in between doing a full time job from home) with only a cold and rainy walk day after day will finish me off.

turnthebiglightoff · 29/12/2020 18:44

If playgrounds close I'll absolutely just lift my toddler over the fence and use them. There is absolutely nothing else to do.

DirtyDancing · 29/12/2020 18:44

The did shut in the first lockdown! Ours in London are literally RAMMED. I’ve never seen anything like it, it’s like Brighton Beach on a hot bank holiday. Zero social distancing, zero mask.

And I do know someone who’s had covid through an interaction with someone they know in a playground, who was asymptomatic (which I get flamed on here for mentioning, but I don’t give a flying duck)

So whilst we have two young kids who desperately need the playground... just shut them.

This second wave, as expected, is ravaging us.

Me too, absolutely fuck that. I nearly lost my mind with a 4yr old and 2yr old in the last lockdown.

People were beginning to do that here towards the end of the first lockdown. I don’t think there’d be any hesitation whatsoever to do the same this time round.

The play ground we go to virtually everyday is usually empty, my son is now really good at not touching his face, I gel his hands before and after he uses the playground.

I would be sad if they closed, but if in some areas people aren’t being sensible it would be hard to just close certain ones.

summerstorms · 29/12/2020 18:56

3. There is something that feels uncomfortable about DC and families out enjoying themselves when our poor nurses and NHS staff are all rushed off their feet in ICUs.

So guess you are just sitting staring at the wall till this is over, and not doing anything you enjoy?

Oh totally, let’s just make everyone else equally stressed out and miserable and mess up a whole new generation of kids. That’ll learn ‘em. Hmm

Tenyearsgone · 29/12/2020 18:57

@Frokelius

Personally I would close playgrounds and parks for three reasons:
 1. They are an excuse to leave home. Frankly, that is the last thing we need when everyone should be indoors at home as much as possible.
 1. Closing them would provide a symbol that things are not normal and people should not be behaving normally.

So you want parents and children to sit at home and get no exercise and have no fun at all?

I didn't get the memo that Boris had banned families from enjoying themselves

FFS!

What a total load of old bollocks

Based on number 3, I can safely say you sound unhinged.

As PHE don’t include any outdoor contact when contact tracing in schools I wouldn’t be overly concerned- I take hand sanitiser with me when we go and sanitise before and after.

The priority now has to be saving lives and protecting the NHS.

As part of that, we should all be staying at home at all times unless we are key workers.

Leaving home to visit a playground or park is not essential so it should not be happening. Hmm

Hopefully we'll all be in tier 5 with no one allowed to leave home except for work soon anyway
Do we just slowly starve then if we can only leave home for work?

I mean, I won’t starve, instead I’ll die from a lack of insulin.

Yes, let's all curl up and wait for death.

This is like someone taking the bible literally.

Making the cure worse than the cause is absolutely not what we should be doing.

ReesMoggsGlasses · 29/12/2020 19:05

Oh to be such a Puritan, people like you make my piss boil

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 29/12/2020 19:07

I dont get the mindset of people wanting to ban walks or anyone stepping outside their house...cause who needs fresh air?! Luckily it'll never happen and doesn't need to happen.

I doubt parks will close again. Which is a good thing especially for people with no gardens.

Sitt · 29/12/2020 19:08

Hahaha that is absolutely hilarious from Frokelius. Surely a joke. I might have to tell my ICU nurse friend when I see her and her preschooler in the playground tomorrow Grin

Yeah, God forbid my two year old is allowed to feel normal or enjoy himself. I bet what doctors and nurses really want is to know that children are miserable, it'll be a real morale boost Hmm

The vast majority of people should be able to access food deliveries online.

Personally I would support closing supermarkets for 1 month with food ration packs being delivered by the army.
Oh do behave, have you checked out the delivery slots recently
