Spain to create a register of those who refuse the vaccine

CrunchyCarrot · 29/12/2020 10:35

I am certain there are those here who will applaud this, but I do not.

Firstly, the vaccine in Spain will not be mandatory, yet authorities will still record those who refuse to have the vaccine, and worse still, will share this register with other EU countries. They promise the data will be held 'safely'. How often have we heard that assurance only to find that at a later date, the database has been hacked and the contents are being sold on the Dark Web?

Also, there's just the question why do they need to do this? Where does it end, will other jabs be added in over time? Plus there's no discussion about why people have refused, some of us will have done so for very good health reasons. I find this a disturbing development.

There are many sources online for this, not just the BBC.

@TuxedoPantherSheHer

Who on the Dark Web is going to interested in the list of the unvaccinated

Yes, but the problem is why did this 'innocent' process make the news and also the tone in general is worrying

It was reported because there’s far too many news hours / column inches to fill and reporting in that tone makes for more readers than the reality, which is pretty mundane.

@MellowYellow101 except if everyone “didn’t want to pump a drug into their body” then we wouldn’t have eradicated or near eradicated half the diseases we have. So by being anti vaccine you are taking an inherently selfish position by expecting others to protect you instead.

No one is expecting protection

Plus, most vaccines we have been 'pumping into our bodies' till now have been around for years. Not the Covid ones.

In most European countries every kid at birth gets a vaccination booklet where as the years go buy doctors record all the vaccinations the child - teen - adult has got. It is also on every person's digital record. Both mandatory and optional vaccinations are recorded.
For some things, like entering the mandatory educational system or getting child benefits, you have to present this booklet. Or for some jobs.
This is perfectly normal.
The fact that ppl see this as a big conspiracy and invasion of their privacy is way more concerning.

This is about public health, nothing else. Eg you can only send kid into kindergarden if vaccination protocol is up to date. Otherwise that unvaxxed kid presents a risk to themselves and to others.

@TuxedoPantherSheHer

Who on the Dark Web is going to interested in the list of the unvaccinated? The Covid Coughagram service?
Hahaha! Grin

But seriously, you're missing the point here, in the case of the Dark Web, it's not the fact that people haven't had the jab, it's the data included with that information - name, age, probably address, health authority, that sort of thing. Those are all key pieces of information that hackers and people who want to steal your ID love to have.

@SideboardOfDoom The last time I checked, my piles aren’t a matter of international concern.

@crunchycarrot So basically it’ll be a list of personal details like all the other lists of personal details already compiled and held by government agencies, banks etc?

Well how will the data criminals contain themselves?

CountessFrog · 30/12/2020 21:42

Nobody ‘wants’ a jab. Civilised people with a sense of responsibility to others realise that, unless we get vaccinated, we will be locked down indefinitely.

Perhaps those refusing the vaccine wouldn’t mind changing their mind and having the jab to protect me?

bellinisurge · 30/12/2020 22:00

If it's not mandatory to get a jab there, I can't think of a GDPR basis to collect this information. Or for any authority in another country that is subject to GDPR to hold it. Won't last long.

Yes, you seem very keen for this to happen. But these 'articles' (by Which??) contain no more than speculative opinion
