Staff in Asda not wearing masks

I went to Asda yesterday and loads of staff were not wearing masks. How is this allowed? I am very wary and wear a mask at all times as we are shielding. I had a problem at the self-serve checkout and the staff member who came to sort it out was inches away from me, maskless.

Does anybody know why Asda thinks this is OK, especially when we’re in Tier 4?

(The last para was for @Rockmeamaryllis btw - and anyone else moaning but not doing anything about it)

I think stores vary greatly. My local Tescos is better than Asda for social distancing. As is Lidl better than Aldi where I live. However I cannot afford Tescos so Asda it is.
@Sparklingbrook I had a child with me, I’d just bought a huge item that I was carrying as I didn’t have a quid for the trolley and it was packed. Otherwise I would have totally done a Karen and demanded to speak to the manager.

If they were exempt, but I’m sorry, they should not be interacting so closely with customers.
"Done a Karen"?

Aren't you just a peach.

And disablist to boot! Bravo! Hmm

There's always a reason on threads like this why doing the most obvious thing (like asking at the time) was not at all possible.

JamieLeesCurtains · 29/12/2020 15:50

My DP did speak to someone at the time in Asda, and was told that the staff had been told not to enforce the regulations.

It's not the non-masking wearing per se that bothers me. It's non-mask-wearing staff spraying non-masking-wearing customers unnecessarily with particles from their mouths and nostrils at very close quarters.

Non-mask-wearing customers are by definition more vulnerable than others. Physical distance should be observed with them. They have to shop and visit pharmacies like everyone else - people should give them a bit of space.I

Sometimes the Asda pharmacy is the only one open.

Sorry about all the autocorrect horrors there ^^

@RaspberryCoulis Disablist??! That’s a bit of a stretch 😂

It is disablist.

You have no way of knowing why any of the staff weren’t wearing masks and they didn’t have to tell you. And they don’t have to wear a lanyard or have a sign or a non-existent letter from their GP either.

JamieLeesCurtains · 29/12/2020 18:14

No, I agree, @Nnkk. But neither do they need to get very close to other people, including customers who can't wear masks either, and spray fine droplets of spittle all around them through shouting and unnecessary close distancing.

In fact people who can't wear masks would, you'd think, be particularly mindful of other people who can't wear masks, not act like mask wearing is something they've never heard of.

LIZS · 29/12/2020 18:17

Dbro works for them and many customers are coming in without masks, no social distancing either. In Sainsbury's yesterday families were treating it as a day out, children especially with no masks running around. So much for their one adult at a time policy Hmm

It is highly unlikely by a law of averages that a group of strong young men in the same shop would ALL have some form of disability. FFS.

Agree 100%.

People should still be social distancing at all times mask or not.

You have no way to know and you should not be told.

Exempt staff should wear a lanyard so customers know why they aren't wearing one.

Or...or...its none of the customer's business!

If someone isn't wearing a mask, perhaps presume they are exempt, rather than presuming they a twat.
Why they aren't wearing a mask is no ones bloody business!
They don't owe anyone an explanation!
