If you’ve had Covid do you feel more relaxed about it?

My daughter tested positive on Christmas Day and is already better. We’re isolating to make sure the rest of us don’t get symptoms but I think we’re all a bit more relaxed about it now after nearly a year of trying to avoid it.

Just wondering if you’ve had it or been in a household with mild cases and now feel less worried. Obviously we will still do what we can to avoid passing it on to more vulnerable people. I should add that personally this was our first brush with it directly and don’t know anyone who has had to go to hospital with it.

Yes I had it in April, but didn't get it confirmed until I had antibody test in June. I'm an NHS worker so was slightly nervous prior to that but now that I've had it I'm definitely more relaxed, even though reinfection is still such an unknown. I have rubbish lungs and had been worried about how they would cope! It took them 4 months to recover fully but other than my lungs the rest of me was better within 3 weeks or so.

ConfusedcomMum · 28/12/2020 18:36

Not really as I don't want to catch it again (rare but it happens and some have had it much worse the second time). However it has made me much more relaxed about having the vaccine. Can't explain why but for some weird reason it has. 🤷‍♀️

Indecisive12 · 28/12/2020 18:39

No because 6 weeks later I’m still unable to work, unable to care for my children, unable to cook/clean, I can’t even wash my own hair some days. I’m more petrified than I was.
37 year old, BMI 22, no health conditions btw

Scottishmum1984 · 28/12/2020 19:06

Hmmmm in a way yes. I have quite bad asthma and was hit pretty hard, ill for around a month. BUT I wasn’t hospitalised and my children had quite mild symptoms, so it has made me feel okay about then being in school etc.

Tumbleweed101 · 28/12/2020 19:08

It’s such a strange illness, how it affects everyone so differently. My dd only knew because she takes lateral flow tests for work now she started with NHS. Otherwise she would never have felt the need to test. She hasn’t had any of the main symptoms. Shows why it is spreading so much though.

What were her symptoms? Just curious!

user1471453601 · 28/12/2020 19:17

There are two premiership footballers ( so presumably are very fit) who have confirmed that they have long covid, so I don't t think any of us can relax unfortunately, plus we don't know much about if you can get it twice.

bellalou1234 · 28/12/2020 19:19

I work frontline healthcare had it in april.no symtoms other than fatigue and loss of smell. My partner also works healthcare got it in november all isolated and I didn't catch it again..

Inkpaperstars · 28/12/2020 19:20

I think I have had it but back in April and haven't had any testing and can't be sure. Even if I did, I am worried about getting it again especially since it was many months ago. I am even more worried about needing other NHS care for something else and not being able to access it due to rising covid cases.

Lastfreakinglegs · 28/12/2020 19:22

Yes and yes. My only remaining symptom is a loss of sense of smell which I still have.

Iloveknockknockjokes · 28/12/2020 19:26

My four year old had it and coughed all over me. Noone else in house or her nursery got it. So yes I'm more relaxed but understand it's different for other people. Maybe she was false positive etc. But I think facing it for two weeks then everyone being ok it's just natural to be more relaxed.

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 28/12/2020 19:30

Got it now. Knowing how it is possible to be reinfected will make me more cautious. I don’t ever want to have this again. I had flu a year ago and this is worse (but not severe enough to require hospital treatment, but I’ve still be incredibly poorly)

HairyFloppins · 28/12/2020 19:35

I worry about getting it again and it being worse next time. I worry about my DH getting it again and ending up in hospital again.

There seems to be so many on here that have had it twice and it really concerns me.

UncomfortableSilence · 28/12/2020 19:45

Nope I'm more worried, have it now, I'm over the worst and my isolation has finished but I am a very long way from well, I have never, as an adult, been so ill. I am 44, fit, very healthy, no underlying conditions and very slim. I don't ever want to feel like this again.

I work in a school and I am worried about going back whereas I wasn't worried before, I went for my first walk today and two joggers ran past me panting all over the place and that has worried me that I might catch it again ridiculous as that sounds. It's really affected me not just physically.

Tiquismiquis · 28/12/2020 20:08

Yes. Our whole household had it so feeling much less worried about catching it. We had a horrid fortnight full of anxiety and worry but the relief was quite significant afterwards.

ShinyGreenElephant · 28/12/2020 20:11

I'm less worried than I was, but I had it in November and my baby is due in Feb so I will start being over cautious again at the beginning of Feb - basically self isolating as much as possible and no visits after the birth - because obviously I'd hate the baby to get it, and also imagine giving birth with covid! I'm over it now but it was really, really nasty and affected me far more than I would have expected

starrynight19 · 28/12/2020 20:12

Did you all catch it in your house ? My dp and dd caught it. I didn’t or my other dd. We presumed we must be asymptomatic.
I went back to work in school and then proceeded to catch it from there so unless you have all had it I wouldn’t presume your immune.
And I am still suffering symptoms now a month later so if anything it’s made me more cautious as I know how awful it can be and I certainly don’t want it again.

danro · 28/12/2020 20:13

No I am worse now. I was so ill with it and still am unwell and not back to ‘normal’ in the slightest over 8 weeks on. 26, healthy, no underlying health conditions etc. I’m terrified of catching it again.

Iamsodonewith2020 · 28/12/2020 20:14

I had it in March for about 5 days and tested positive for antibodies in July. Just tested positive again Christmas Eve. Feel much worse than last time, struggling to breathe. I have just hit day 6 today and getting worse. I am now scared as having had antibodies that haven’t lasted very long I am worried that vaccine will not provide what we are all hoping long term

BaublesToIt · 28/12/2020 20:16

Same as Tisquis, whole household had it (apart from me) with minor symptoms or none at all, so I’m very relaxed now with regards to DC and DH getting it. My OCD was has been pretty bad this year because of it. The horrible 14 days of isolation we endured was worth it!

Not worried about reinfection either tbh as it’s extremely rare and in most cases a symptomatic anyway.

Living with 5 positive cases, and sleeping with one of them, I’m not worried about catching it myself now either.

Iamsodonewith2020 · 28/12/2020 20:18

Uncomfortablesilence. I work in a school too and wept today when Gove announced primary will open as normal in January. Every member of my team has tested positive within 5 days of Christmas holidays starting. Schools are not safe for staff, we didn’t sign up to this when we joined the teaching profession.

RuthW · 28/12/2020 20:21

Yes. Dd tested positive Christmas Eve and is better too. So far we are day 7 from her first symptom and I haven't got any yet. I have also had the first vaccine. I will definitely be less worried.

RuthW · 28/12/2020 20:23

Exactly the same. She had a sore throat and coughed 4 times. Then she got cold symptoms. She also tested first with a lateral test.
Mumblechum0 · 28/12/2020 20:29

Had it in March, recovered within a week.

Not remotely concerned about catching it again, but I go through the motions of masks, sanitiser etc so as not to stress out others.

sweetchristmastime · 28/12/2020 20:39

Yes. Had it in September. Very mild
