So today is day 10 and track and trace have called me check on me (again!!). I am much improved but i am still suffering from nausea and fatigue. Im fine all the while im laying down, but very much not ok after about five minutes of activity (think loading the dishwasher wipes me out). They said i need to extend my isolation until ive not had those symptoms for 48 hours.

I received a message from my boss asking how i was when are you coming back to work so i told them what had transpired and got a passive aggressive message back about needing to give other staff members a break after last week etc.

There is a culture in my workplace that unless you are on your deathbed you need to be in work. It is a physically demanding job.

So whilst nothing directly said the implication is there that i have caused a problem.

I forgot to ask track and trace for a text or such like to prove i need to extend isolation.

Believe me when i say ive had enough and need to get out but i genuinely struggling with fatigue and nausea.

What can i do? Its clear my employers think im taking the piss

You are clearly still ill. Can you get a doctor’s note?

parrotonmyshoulder · 27/12/2020 10:33

And maybe they are implying that you’ve ‘caused’ a problem, but that’s not your fault. You are ill. Forget about what they might think. Poor you.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 27/12/2020 10:34

Have you been in touch with your GP? Are they able to help?

LIZS · 27/12/2020 10:34

You can't return while symptomatic. Did you have any bereavement leave as it also could be stress is hindering your recovery. Can you request a fitnote online from gp?

Thisyearisshit · 27/12/2020 10:36

This makes me so angry, genuinely ill people being questioned, when if it’s anything like my work place is because of the few that take the piss. Echo above poster try and get a sick note, or ask your manager if they are happy to inform everyone they’ve asked you to come back early and any illness for colleagues/potential fines fall on their head and not yours? Bet they won’t be so quick to agree.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 27/12/2020 10:36

LEM. STAY HOME

Covid is not something to 'push through'. You could end up 'on your death bed'. You have people in your life that live you & want you to be here for a long time. Work is just work.

STSY HOME look after yourself x

ABigFatCrow · 27/12/2020 10:38

Plenty of people in my work caught it and did not come back after the 10 days, they're weren't fit to. Call your GP and ask for a line, you're not well.

Porcupineintherough · 27/12/2020 10:41

Dont go back before you're well. If you push yourself into long COVID you could be unable to work for months and it doesnt sound as if your employer will be very sympathetic to that. And, without wanting to scare you, you could do long lasting serious damage to yourself.

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/12/2020 10:42

I forgot to ask track and trace for a text or such like to prove i need to extend isolation.

I'd screenshot the NHS isolation advice on not ending isolation if you still have symptoms, and send that. I hate this culture in workplaces to try force people into work when they're clearly not well, and could still spread it round.

When to keep self-isolating
Keep self-isolating if you have any of these symptoms after 10 days:
• a high temperature or feeling hot and shivery
• a runny nose or sneezing
• feeling or being sick
• diarrhoea
Only stop self-isolating when these symptoms have gone.

Lizs i was given bereavement leave (company usually gives a week) but i developed symptoms the next day (actually in the evening that mum died) so i dont know if that counts as compassionate leave now ir sick pay - i dont have any sick pay left as i had a period of isolatiin in March so i wont be paid either. I really dont know where i stand with any of it. Im worried i wont be given leave for the funeraland will need to try and organise it for my day off.

Not spoken to GP or 111 as i am getting better and honestly thought I'd be allowed out tomorrow. It is just the fatigue that worries me i dont gave any other symptoms. My temperature is high but not above 38. Will i even be able get a sick note?

Im really confused.

you are still ill and clearly not fit to work yet.

stay home until you can actually be upright without tiring out for a good few hours.
would you even be safe drivjng to work?

satnighttakeaway · 27/12/2020 10:47

Maybe this isn't possible but cant you ring T and T back and ask them to confirm in writing? Sorry if there's something I've missed but that seems the obvious thing to do.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 27/12/2020 10:47

Tell your employer sorry but this is the law, I need to stay indoors until I've been given the all clear and I'm feeling very pressure here to break the law...

Me too it is terrible
Porcupineintherough · 27/12/2020 10:48

Just tell the go you are wiped out and running a temperature. They wont be calling you in to examine you, and you'll get your note.

You can claim statutory sick pay with COVID, if that helps.

Sorry to hear about your mum. Flowers

TheoriginalLEM · 27/12/2020 10:51

Satnighttakeaway, that was my first thought actually, i will try that.

Im sitting here questioning myself, AM i still ill or are my legs like jelly because i need to get up and get moving about if that makes sense.

I am climbing the walls (obv not literally!!) I need to get out and thought i could go.

This is such a bsll ache

OP posts:
Stokey · 27/12/2020 10:52

You can't go back if you're running a temperature, even if it's not very high, 38 is enough. You are still symptomatic and so contagious. Your boss is being ridiculous.

TonMoulin · 27/12/2020 10:52

@TheoriginalLEM, you are ILL.

Please contact your GP and don’t go back to work until you are physically fit to do so.
If you can’t do more than emptying the dishwasher, how do you think you’ll cope with a full day at work?.

TheoriginalLEM · 27/12/2020 10:53

I need to claim stat sick pay for DP as he will have list two full weeks, he is in isolation til 31st i think

Its all so fucked up

OP posts:
Abraxan · 27/12/2020 10:54

Please contact your GP. You most likely will be given an over the phone appointment and a digital sick note.

It took me a while to be able to return to work after covid - I was off for 7 weeks. 12 weeks on and I am still struggling. Tbh I probably returned too soon as it was.

Your workplace will, I'm afraid, just have to deal with your absence. You cannot return to work whilst still ill.

TheoriginalLEM · 27/12/2020 10:55

Will contact GP if no better by tuesday

The situation in the house re food is dire. Friends have been kind but we are running out of things. I cant put on them any more

OP posts:
LIZS · 27/12/2020 10:59

Can you arrange a Click and collect for someone to get for you? Or deliveroo from m and s? Morrisons may be able to do one of their boxes. Are your dc also in si?

Abraxan · 27/12/2020 11:02

Please let your friends know, especially if no one from the house can leave yet. They really won't mind helping I'm sure. Friends really helped us out when I was ill and we had to isolate. I'd do the same for anyone in the same situation.

Livebythecoast · 27/12/2020 11:17

You can go on the 111 NHS website and get a self isolating note, you fill it in online (sorry, don't know how to link). I doubt a GP would do a sick note as its covid related and they won't be open til 29th anyway.
I hope you feel better soon Flowers
