Mumsnet always seems to know when there is a new announcement/ press conference!

When's the next one?

Oxford vaccine approved. Come on OXFORD!

Arcadia · 26/12/2020 14:12

@Bathroom12345 has that been announced yet???

RedMarauder · 26/12/2020 14:13

If you are England more information on schools plus the Oxford vaccine.

Mushroomswithgarlic · 26/12/2020 14:13

Review of tiers 30th Dec? And yes Oxford/schools beforehand we hope...

Orf1abc · 26/12/2020 14:14

The next likely announcement will be to announce further areas going into Tier 4. I believe the review is on the 30th.

Orf1abc · 26/12/2020 14:15

No schools announcement until they can find Gav...

Glenthebattleostrich · 26/12/2020 14:15

Expecting tier 4 nationwide with effect from 30th to stop people like my idiot neighbours.

Wouldn't be surprised if schools don't go back as planned in January.

Well Gav is long gone. Probably hiding away in Santa’s sleigh. Mind you Santa probably only wants people on the nice list with him. Someone on the naughty list will no doubt get sent back from the North Pole with a lump of coal. Anyone think where Gav could put his lump of coal?!!
SmudgeButt · 26/12/2020 14:29

Well I'm just hoping that there'll be an announcement from our Dr's surgery that 94 yo MiL can have a vaccine. Apparently she's not that vulnerable so has nothing to worry about.

Yes they have had vaccine available but she didn't make the cut and they have now run out.

CaveMum · 26/12/2020 14:33

I’m fully anticipating all areas going to Tier 4/or full national lockdown before New Years Eve to try and prevent people gathering to celebrate.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 26/12/2020 14:37

Monday or Tuesday for the Oxford vaccine hopefully. Once that's done they can announce the closure of schools for a short period with the uptake of the vaccine as a carrot for reopening them.

who the fuck would think this is a good idea not to vaccinate your mil aged 94 ??
Motorina · 26/12/2020 14:52

Unlikely to be Monday - Monday is a bank holiday. I would have thought tuesday for Oxford at the earliest.

louisejxxx · 26/12/2020 14:57

I’ve heard 28th/29th for the Oxford vaccine too, regardless of it being a bank holiday.

Thatwentbadly · 26/12/2020 15:01

If you going the bbc news website they always show you the front pages of the all the newspapers. Whatever the gov are going to announce they leak to the Telegraph this is how people on MN know what is happening.

I think your use of the word “planned” here is generous toward the government. I think last minute fire fighting is more their style.

Absolutely. I've said on another thread that people are more likely to comply with another period of lockdown and school closures if it was to facilitate getting as many people as possible vaccinated and then starting to get back to normal.
Bathroom12345 · 26/12/2020 16:30

Sorry, Oxford Vaccine hasn’t yet been approved. Sorry... it’s expected 28 December according to various media including the Telegraph!

Florelei · 26/12/2020 16:38

I definitely agree that people would be more likely to comply with a further lockdown and school a closure if there was some end point. So if the vaccine was approved and rolled out in some meaningful way. The current vaccine rollout has been relatively limited due to the numbers available but there could change with the Oxford vaccine

Probably the same ones who think it is a good idea to not vaccinate my 89 year old MIL who is currently in a hospital bed.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/12/2020 17:05

They don't think it's 'not a good idea' you lemons, there are just people ahead of them in the queue. Dont waste annoyance on that one. Flippin' eck, people on MN just look for reasons to be outraged.

So an ill 89 year old in hospital is regarded as having lots of others in front of her? They apparently will vaccinate on discharge, so the point at which she is most vulnerable she isn't.

Infection spread in hospitals is a massive issue, covid especially so, yet it is felt acceptable to keep her unvaccinated for weeks.

I will never think it acceptable that those in hospitals are not being given highest priority, along with care homes. Did we learn nothing from March?

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 26/12/2020 17:43

@TheGreatWave I can't explain not vaccinating a hospital patient but for care home patients it is simply logistics. The Pfizer vaccine has a very limited life once thawed and diluted making it simply impossible to get it to enough of those patients without enormous waste

janetmendoza · 26/12/2020 18:04

Part of the reason for not vaccinating people in hospital is the difficulty of knowing how many there are of them in advance. Obvs you are looking to vaccinate people over 80, who are covid negative, who are well enough to recieve the vaccine, who are able to consent, who are not having any new medications or changes to regimes and who are going to be in hospital in maybe 10 days time. It's really hard to know. Plus are they well enough to get out of bed to the vaccine area?
