Are there any big announcements planned soon?

Mumsnet always seems to know when there is a new announcement/ press conference!

When's the next one?

Wasn’t there meant to be one today or is that just Facebook rumours?

StealthPolarBear · 26/12/2020 18:32

I'd assumed there would bee a boxing day announcement

TheGreatWave · 26/12/2020 18:42

Thank you queen and Janet for your posts. It makes sense logistic wise, but she just seems so vulnerable there at the moment.

Purpler5 · 26/12/2020 19:23

@TheGreatWave

Well I'm just hoping that there'll be an announcement from our Dr's surgery that 94 yo MiL can have a vaccine. Apparently she's not that vulnerable so has nothing to worry about.

Yes they have had vaccine available but she didn't make the cut and they have now run out.

who the fuck would think this is a good idea not to vaccinate your mil aged 94 ??

Probably the same ones who think it is a good idea to not vaccinate my 89 year old MIL who is currently in a hospital bed.

People complaining that family members not being vaccinated...you do know, as with most things, there is limited supply? (If not of the vaccine itself in your area then of staff and space to administer). Be patient!

So looking at today’s papers it looks like most of them are reporting that an announcement is imminent (Thursday at the latest one of them says - one of the others quoting tomorrow)

Bagelsandbrie · 27/12/2020 08:25

I reckon nationwide tier 4 and huge drive to vaccinate in January.

Do you have a link for this? Thanks

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

They don't think it's 'not a good idea' you lemons, there are just people ahead of them in the queue. Dont waste annoyance on that one. Flippin' eck, people on MN just look for reasons to be outraged.
I'm not quite outraged but I'm annoyed that the surgery doesn't think a 94 year old living at home with us might not be vulnerable.

No she doesn't get out very much but i'm considered a key worker and my OH is also vulnerable one might think that she is relatively high risk. Maybe not as at risk as those in hospital or care homes but ahead of others in the community able to be transported to the surgery.

So far I've been unable to find any rules about how might get the jab other than "those over 80".

Guardian says there is a meeting tomorrow (with Gavin) to decide what to do re schools. I bet they don’t do anything though until the day before they are due to go back it then.

Thank you @madroid

But I can't see where there's anything that says who gets the vaccine. I realise this is ever evolving information - of course. And I wonder if this is why people ignore the rules - there's so very very much information, so quickly out of date, and no easy way to sort through it all unless you are a determined health professional.

Gosh are they still inviting him to meetings?
covetingthepreciousthings · 27/12/2020 18:09

I was surprised there wasn't an announcement today, I kept thinking they'd announce another lockdown after Christmas. But maybe this what the silence is for as it's all going on behind the scenes before a big announcement.

Just wish they'd get it over with, especially if it involves school closures so people have advance warning.

borageforager · 27/12/2020 18:16

Our area is inviting over 80s who can get to the centre first. They don’t have the staff levels to make rounds of individual home visits for those over 80s who are housebound.

covetingthepreciousthings · 28/12/2020 12:06

Is there any announcement planned for today after the schools meeting ?

Can’t see anything scheduled on BBC
RedToothBrush · 28/12/2020 14:22

There is a big meeting on schools either today or tomorrow. They are clearly undecided and are testing the water in the press today and trying to get support on which ever side they are on.

The Oxford Vaccine is hope to be approved sometime this week.

The tier review is on the 30th.

My suspicion is that if they can roll everything into one press conference on the 30th they will simply because its Christmas / New Year week and not as many civil servants / journalists are working.

I think this evening and tomorrow evening will give us a better idea when the front pages come out.

The 30th could be 'interesting'. I'm not terribly hopeful that restrictions won't be extended to places which aren't yet T4.

wintertime6 · 28/12/2020 14:28

I'm predicting the Oxford vaccine announcement will be on Wednesday 😀. Some GP surgeries already have stocks of it and are just waiting on the green light to start vaccinating next week.

ScouseQueen · 28/12/2020 14:36

It does seem odd @SmudgeButt that there were so many patients ahead of your 94 yo mum, who is in the top priority group, that they ran out. A 90 yo family friend broke her hip and while in hospital has been vaccinated - very relieved and it shows you don't have to be mobile in hospital to get it done as a pp suggested.

I am betting on tomorrow for the Oxford announcement. Thought all along the 28th was an error and someone hadn't realised that would actually be a bank holiday.

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/12/2020 11:02

Any ideas when we can expect another announcement yet? Or will it be tomorrow for the tier review?

Orichette · 29/12/2020 12:45

Yes I think tomorrow

tiredandgrumpy · 29/12/2020 12:52

Of course the Oxford vaccine approval will be tomorrow - same day as they announce further tightening if some sort (extension of tier 4 or schools shut for longer). Good news and bad news.

Butterymuffin · 29/12/2020 12:55

It'll have to be tomorrow to ward off anger about new restrictions. Today would be better but that's not looking likely now.
