How long are we in tier 4 for?

I keep googling and I'm either scrolling past the answer or I'm just looking in the wrong place.

Is it a month?

Not confirmed. Definitely until 30th when he's doing another announcement, but very much expect it to last longer

ElizabethG81 · 24/12/2020 12:35

I think the next review is 30th Dec, but I doubt anyone will be out of Tier 4 by then. They're talking about it being necessary "until the vaccine's rolled out".

Splodgetastic · 24/12/2020 12:44

2022 possibly then.

Bubblemonkey · 24/12/2020 12:49

I’m optimistic for sometime In 2025.

NoMansAnIsland · 24/12/2020 12:49

Ok thanks for the replies.

That will be why I couldn't find an answer then.

They won't commit to anything they don't have to. Hence why we don't have objective parameters published by which we know what the tier changes will be.

Squiffany · 24/12/2020 13:08

I reckon March or April and we’ll all be in it in the New Year.

Rosehip10 · 24/12/2020 13:10

No way will the Government give promises about when tier 4 will be reduced. Hands burnt too much in the past.....

OhDear2200 · 24/12/2020 13:11

When we go into Tier 5

HopeAndDriftWood · 24/12/2020 13:12

They will review every two weeks but Hancock said something about expecting tier 4 until the vaccination program is well established, so I’d expect it to be a while (and the rest of the country to join you over the next month)

LemonTT · 24/12/2020 13:15

I would say February would be the earliest we could get out of it.

The NHS is going to need all its workforce geared towards a surge in January, that could have been avoided. The NHS also needs all its workforce geared towards a mass vaccination service.

Neither of these things were ever compatible with a policy to celebrate Christmas with families for one day or five.

We need to bring down infections. And there is only one solution.

Tootletum · 24/12/2020 13:17

Until stupid fuck wit Hancock decides we are all safe. Which is never.

TiddyTid · 24/12/2020 13:19

6 weeks I think.

Cornettoninja · 24/12/2020 13:22

Well I won’t be looking for restaurants for Valentine’s Day just yet...

Twickerhun · 24/12/2020 13:25

I think the whole country will be in tier 4 until end feb at least. Easter feels like it might be more positive

GCAcademic · 24/12/2020 13:27

I doubt we'll be out of it by February. Don't forget that a million plus university students are going to be heading back to their campuses from mid-Jan to February, when the numbers will already be high. That will be worse than what we saw in October, particularly given the recklessly unreliable testing system the government has lined up.

larry5 · 24/12/2020 13:41

My ds who lives in Croydon has had his angiogram which was scheduled for next week cancelled as all elective operations have been cancelled so it looks like London will be in tier 4 for sometime as the hospitals are rapidly filling up.

luckylavender · 24/12/2020 13:44

@GCAcademic - university students won't necessarily go back next term.

Littlemiss74 · 24/12/2020 13:49

My shielding email said to shield until 18th January even if we come out of Tier 4 before then.

roarfeckingroarr · 24/12/2020 13:52

March I reckon

Butterflyfluff · 24/12/2020 13:54

If just had a reservation at a restaurant (chain) cancelled due to the restrictions and it was at the end of January - I’m guessing they know something we don’t

InterfectoremVulpes · 24/12/2020 14:08

Once the Oxford /AZ vaccination is approved i would hope a firmer timetable can be given for restrictions and potential school closures

I think people are more likely to accept and comply restrictions and/or school closures if there is a definite end date (e.g. 6 weeks whilst we vaccinate x categories in the list).

notevenat20 · 24/12/2020 14:31

Tier 4 will be changed in nature a few times I would guess but strict lockdowns of some sort see with us until at least April I would guess.

WrongKindOfFace · 24/12/2020 14:32

I reckon Easter ish. But we’ll all be tier 4 soon. It’s just lockdown by a new name.

Splodgetastic · 24/12/2020 14:34

What would tier 5 look like? All retail closed and no takeaways?
