From tier 2-4

printedlace · 23/12/2020 16:14

So in Norfolk and Suffolk we have been plunged from tier 2 to 4.
I know lots of other places have been, too.
So inserting and frustrating.

I work in a school, currently an area of the building is being turned upside down to accommodate for a testing centre.. hope everyone keeps safe.

Feeling very anxious although I know it's for the best and with safety at heart.

I am in exactly the same area, literally on the border between the 2 and I’m shocked we have gone straight from Tier 2 to Tier 4. Our local numbers are really low. I’m also a TA and we have had no cases at all in our school or in DS’s schools which makes it all the more frustrating.

printedlace · 23/12/2020 16:34

@ihearttc bless you. I'm the same, sitting just in the border.
I work in a large educational institution and we have had over 50 positive cases of covid in a week.

I'm frightened now.

OP posts:
ProfYaffle · 23/12/2020 16:36

I'm in the same area and not shocked. Our rates went up something like 50% in a week. It needs to be done.

printedlace · 23/12/2020 16:38

@ProfYaffle absolutely it's for the best. Just getting very scary now, and working in education it feels like we just aren't being heard. It's getting very dangerous.

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 23/12/2020 16:42

@ProfYaffle I’m astounded they’re turning pet of your school into a testing centre. Is this for testing just staff and pupils or the wider community do you know?
Amazed they think it appropriate to place more space pressures on a school when cases are climbing in them?!

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 23/12/2020 16:47

Sorry that should have been to @printedlace

TheWorstShed · 23/12/2020 16:48

Same with us in (most of) Hampshire.

This is in secondary schools from 4th Jan for staff and pupils across the country.

RoseMartha · 23/12/2020 16:54

Different area but yes going from T2 to 4.

It is frustrating and I want to scream because like a lot of people I have had enough, but what I actually will do is get on with it and follow the rules etc

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 23/12/2020 16:54

@Tyranttoddler yes I knew that was the case as far as testing pupils, thank you, I just wasn’t sure if the OP also meant their school was becoming a testing centre for the wider public as Matt Hancock said that more testing for the public would become available in tier 4 areas.

Oh sorry. I'm so fed up by the document today that I didn't read what you said properly! Staff at my school have worked all weekend til now to turn the sports hall into a testing facility. Like we don't need a sports hall...

ShowOfHands · 23/12/2020 17:01

I'm in Norfolk too. My dc have already had Covid and their schools have been infection free for weeks. We have really low numbers where I am but 30 miles away is a different story entirely.

And our local Tesco has sold out of chocolate!

printedlace · 23/12/2020 17:04

@HolyMilkBoobiesBatman yep they are, was being sorted out today!

CaramelCup · 23/12/2020 17:04

Hi from rural Norfolk.

I’ve got 1 in middle school and one at High.
Since sept we have had 1 case in each school! Poss 2 at the high school. So feeling fairly fortunate here.

printedlace · 23/12/2020 17:04

@HolyMilkBoobiesBatman sorry I should have been clearer! It's just for staff to be carried out weekly, and for students too. Not the public from what I've been told

I'm by Liverpool where it's still tier 2 but more places nearby like Warrington and Chester have moved up a tier.

The concern is more and more people are just going to turn up here from outside because hospitality is open. Cases are already going up but the government like to point to Liverpool as a success of their testing system.

No problem @Tyranttoddler I didn’t explain myself too well.
That’s exact what I mean though, if there was space to spare in schools then transmission wouldn’t be such a problem in them would it?! I wouldn’t put it past the government to thrown some ridiculous, poorly thought through idea like this at schools just before Christmas! I hope they don’t though, and you get at least a few days to switch off and rest! Flowers

CaramelCup · 23/12/2020 17:05

@ShowOfHands it can really vary just down the road can’t it! We’re in Broadland. Our numbers per 100,000 have shot up recently though

printedlace · 23/12/2020 17:06

I know it sounds ridiculously dramatic but I'm just feeling so down and out. It feels like there's just no end.
Sleepy quiet Norfolk is now in tier 4. I just didn't think this would happen but obviously pretty naive as the cases have sky rocketed so it is the correct thing to do.

We're the same. Different area but we've just been moved from 2-4. Our numbers are way below average Sad. I'm guessing ours is because we border a tier 4 area; it was going to happen eventually just wasn't quite expecting it now

No cases yet at DS2's school and just 2 at DS1's college (4000 students!!)

printedlace · 23/12/2020 17:08

We've got close to 9.5k students here, it's just a breeding ground 😭

OP posts:
HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 23/12/2020 17:10

@printedlace Oh at least it’s just for your school. Still a lot of pressure though but good to know they aren’t totally batshit in Downing Street (yet)
Just turn off the news and enjoy a break for a few days, everything is bound to change a few more times before January anyway! Flowers

rollinggreenhills · 23/12/2020 17:16

Bedfordshire went from 2 straight to 4 as well.

Welcome to the club.

TOWGA · 23/12/2020 17:24

I'm in suffolk too, and have already got my shielding email this afternoon!
