From tier 2-4

So in Norfolk and Suffolk we have been plunged from tier 2 to 4.
I know lots of other places have been, too.
So inserting and frustrating.

I work in a school, currently an area of the building is being turned upside down to accommodate for a testing centre.. hope everyone keeps safe.

The testing side of things sounds really positive.

Lougle · 23/12/2020 17:27

We're Hampshire. I think it's the right thing. DD1 goes to special school a few miles from Gosport, which is already tier 4, so she is mixing with tier 4 people anyway. DD2 & DD3 are mainstream, but their secondary already had the whole of year 11 sent home, followed by portions of years 9 & 10, just before Christmas.

Tricky times for all.

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/12/2020 17:27

Just to add we’ve gone from 2 to 4 too.

printedlace · 23/12/2020 17:42

Absolutely agree it's the right thing to do, just doesn't make it any less hard to come to terms with I guess.
I'm very very anxious, I've got anxiety and OCD disorder and things like this really set me off.
I really struggle to stay in the house all day every day, It makes me very unwell. It isn't anything to do with my home or my loverly partner. He couldn't do enough for me, he's great! ❤️ it's just hard isn't it.

Always thinking of everyone that also stuffers especially in times like this. You're not alone. X

It's takes a few days to adjust. We went tier 2, lockdown, tier 3 Wednesday and tier 4 Saturday (Craig David song springs to mind). I work in a large secondary school too so who knows what January will bring.

Obviouslynotallthere · 23/12/2020 17:49

West Sussex surrounded by three tier 4 areas and at tier 3 area. Unsurprisingly tier 4 from Boxing Day. I'm just a bit meh about it now and will crack on. I have been working all the way through (NHS) so it's just at home we will be restricted to just shopping as I've been doing for months.

itsgettingweird · 23/12/2020 17:53

@TheWorstShed

Same with us in (most of) Hampshire.
I'm Hampshire too.

But I'm not surprised as between the T4 areas and couldn't believe we stayed at 2 when they were 4.

Probably should have been 3 at least. That may have changed the outcome.

But Hampshire in general is below a aerate so hopefully this will help quickly as they've actually been efficient this time.

AvoidingRealHumans · 23/12/2020 18:02

Another one going from tier 2 to 4, feels like such a leap but ultimately its for the best I suppose.
I'm in Essex and have been surrounded by tier 4 so it was odd to be kept at 2 in the first place, we'll all be tier 4 or worse soon I think. I'm finding it hard now, there's no end in sight.

beepbeeprichie · 23/12/2020 18:02

On Boxing Day we have tier 1s going to tier 4 in Scotland.

Houseofflu · 23/12/2020 18:09

From 2 to 4 too. I kind of hope there's another stricter national lockdown. You can't have a normal life even under tier 2 anyway. Why not have a short proper lockdown? Compromise just makes things worse.

printedlace · 23/12/2020 18:11

Hope you're all okay. We've got this! It's just shit!!

I've seen that there's already 2 positive cases of the new South Africa strain in the UK.. 🦠

FitbitCat · 23/12/2020 18:12

The only thing left after that is schools.....

backinthebox · 23/12/2020 18:13

We 'plunged' (rather dramatic phraseology!) from Tier 2 to Tier 4 at the weekend. Our rates the week before were the lowest in England, so it can change fast. At least the folks who don't go into Tier 4 until Boxing Day get one last chance to participate in a super spreader event (aka seeing your family on Christmas Day.) It's been months since I've seen mine. I firmly believe that if these areas need to be in Tier 4 asap, they should just suck it up like the rest of us who have had our Christmases ruined and get on with it from tonight. The millions of us who went into Tier 4 on Saturday didn't get much more notice than that.

We are in West Berks, and were surrounded on nearly all sides by Tier 2 - this was actually really restrictive as it meant that whilst certain things are permissible, you cannot travel between Tiers 2 and 4. In some villages there is a split in tiers, and the shops are in Tier 2 meaning those Tier 4 villagers have been turned away from the village shop and had to travel miles for food shopping. Now everyone is in Tier 4 round here, it will actually make things easier for many.

printedlace · 23/12/2020 18:13

I really strongly believe schools and colleges need to close. I know this sill be extremely controversial, but it's been a shit show of a year already for students. It's time to prioritise health and well-being.

OP posts:
Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 23/12/2020 18:18

OP I agree schools and colleges probably need to close - or not re-open - until they can be made rather more safe

However, doing so will not "prioritise health and wellbeing". Schools are being open is essential for that.

printedlace · 23/12/2020 18:24

@Ihatemyseleffordoingthis I understand, for students it's a vital part of normality and wellbeing.
But most of them along along the staff are absolutely terrified. We have families we are trying to protect as well as ourselves ☹️

ImPrincessAurora · 23/12/2020 18:29

Welcome to the party pal.

What I don’t understand is how those going into t4 today (effective Boxing Day) still get their Christmas Day when those who went into t4 on Sunday don’t.

Doesn’t feel very fair. It should be one rule for all.

printedlace · 23/12/2020 18:32

@ImPrincessAurora yes absolutely agree. Cancel if all and let us have the best chance of some normality this time next year.

OP posts:
Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 23/12/2020 18:33

I totally understand too, and really feel for staff. I thought the all in all open thing was patently a disaster. I think investment - and permission - should be channelled at schools, part time options, co-opting other unused spaces for off site provision, recruiting teachers and support staff, masks, distance, home ed and option etc.

If schools close many kids won't get fed, let alone an education.

This. I would love to have my mum over on Xmas day as if it is ok for those less than 10 minutes away to do it until they go into tier 4 on Boxing Day why shouldn’t I. Of course I won’t. I do understand that we need to reduce social contact to stop the spread but I’m very pissed off that these areas allowed to even have a relaxation of their rules before they are put in tier 4 yet I can’t even have a walk with my mum and step dad on Xmas day. (We all live in tier 4 about 10 mins from one another).
ihearttc · 23/12/2020 18:43

@printedlace

I can only speak for myself and the rest of the staff who work in outlet school but we are not remotely scared or terrified of catching a disease which for most of the population is a relatively mild illness (especially as it seems that this new variant is giving milder symptoms). What I am scared and terrified of is my 15 year old son’s mental health if he has to miss more school and the effect this will have on his GCSE grades.

Pbbananabagel · 23/12/2020 18:58

In all honesty... everyone going up to tier 4 on Boxing Day should just be thankful you have some warning, some of us had 7 hours notice that we couldn’t see our families on Christmas or finish Christmas shopping.

PatchworkElmer · 23/12/2020 19:06

2 to 4 here too 😔

Anjo2011 · 23/12/2020 19:15

Tier 2 to 4 here too, but I think by new year we will be in national lockdown. Totally understand why people in different tiers are cheesed off that new tier 4 starts Boxing Day. It’s just a shambles all round . In our neighbourhood relatives have started arriving that clearly are staying over for Christmas , it winds me up but I think that the goodwill of people is running on empty. It’s shit all round.
