If you have a phlegmy cough it's not covid is it?

Just that really. All our family (kids as well plus MIL) have the same phlegmy cough have done for a few days. OH says there's no need to be tested as it's not a dry cough. Have felt a bit headachy and tired too but starting to feel like it's on its way out now. Other family members have said not to bother with test too but I'm an anxious person. We're not really particularly ill, just the phlegmy cough. It is a dry cough that we should be worried about isn't it? Not a productive cough?

The fact that you're asking the advice of some randoms on the inter web means you're doubting the advice of your family. Do the responsible thing OP and get tested.

Trackandtrace · 23/12/2020 17:49

Please tell me you didnt go to audiology with household members with a cough 🤔

OverTheRainbow88 · 23/12/2020 17:52

I would test with a new continuous cough

EbeneezerSnooze · 23/12/2020 21:28

@snookercue

Nah *@buffyp* is right, no need to talk to someone like shit. OP was asking a question, it's simple enough to answer without being a dick.

OP was being a dick. OP has a cough and needs to isolate and test. It's a dick move to suggest it is not a covid cough based on phlegm. You stand up for OP who was 'only asking a question' but seem to omit the fact that the answer to said question has been staring is all in the face for months.

@FoodDrive is right, nobody wants to be isolating now, do they?

How does her polite OP make her a dick exactly? I'm sure you're perfectly capable of answering someone's question without being shitty with them.
happytoday73 · 23/12/2020 21:35

Just for balance OP we've all had a phlegmy cough after a day of sneezing... Tested.. All negative.. Just a cold thankfully

snookercue · 23/12/2020 21:38

How does her polite OP make her a dick exactly?

The content: not the level of politeness, but I'm sure you know exactly why I mean. After all, I did actually explain in my last post who it was a dick move.

I'm sure you're perfectly capable of answering someone's question without being shitty with them.

I am yes, but if someone is acting ridiculously in the middle of a pandemic and potentially putting others at risk then I will save said capability for others.

SabrinaTheMiddleAgedBitch · 23/12/2020 22:47

I would assume covid until proved otherwise with the current state of things and get tested asap

PurpleDaisies · 23/12/2020 22:51

In the beginning they were saying dry cough. New, continuous and dry

That was never part of the official guidance for who needs a test. Posters on here loved to say it though.

I hope you’ve booked a test op. You all need to isolate until the results are hopefully back negative.

MindatWork · 23/12/2020 22:51

Sounds exactly like my 2 year old DDs cough - phlegmy, worse in the morning etc. She tested positive last week with no other ‘official’ covid symptoms but also has snotty nose, fatigue and upset tummy.

Best get them tested if you can - I know it’s not ideal over xmas but at least you’ll know either way. Good luck

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 23/12/2020 23:04

They removed the wording 'dry cough' to just 'any new cough' months and months ago, almost back at the very beginning. It's any cough OP. Hope you get tested are are okay.

Gandalf456 · 23/12/2020 23:14

My family can be a bit like that with me but then they never seek medical help so I just follow my own instincts now

My occasional phlegm cough was negative and I only tested because I was offered a test by Zoe Covid a week ago.
oneglassandpuzzled · 23/12/2020 23:18

And by occasional I mean hours of no coughing and then clearing my throat four or five times. No other symptoms.

Not really, no. I wouldn't say that does explain why she deserves to be called a dick at all. I think you're wrong, and unnecessarily rude.

"Acting ridiculously"? Jesus Christ settle down 😂 she asked for advice.

CrocodilesCry · 23/12/2020 23:29

My DGM (90) had a really loose cough which we (mistakenly) thought hoped wouldn't be Covid.
It was. Luckily she's come through it but it killed several people in her care home. The staff (it's not their fault) feel terribly guilty as they caught it from carers.
Please self-isolate and book a test for tomorrow.

snookercue · 23/12/2020 23:32

I'm quite settled, thanks.

OP wasn't asking for advice. OP was asking for justification for not testing, which is quite ridiculous. OP family has a cough, OP family need to be tested.

IRememberMySpaceBabe · 23/12/2020 23:32

I had real cold-like symptoms - snotty, congested, phlegmy cough/inability to clear my throat, a sore swollen throat and a swollen gland in my armpit. I had a very mild temperature. DH and DS had the dry cough and high temp, DD had a chesty cough. It’s so weird how it affects everyone differently

EbeneezerSnooze · 23/12/2020 23:53

She was though. She was mistaken in her assumption so it's good that she asked. Many people managed to reply in a decent, polite manner, and hopefully she's listened to the advice she received.

Blimey this new variant has really got people riled up and panicking again some of the responses on here to what was a perfectly innocent question! OP sorry some people have been so rude and don’t seem to be able to respond like rational adults! If you have a cough you should get a test but given the time of year it’s likely to be just a usual winter illness but better to know and remember the majority of tests taken come back negative despite what you would believe from MN

snookercue · 24/12/2020 00:23

Blimey this new variant has really got people riled up and panicking again

Nothing to do with the new variant, nor am I panicking. I'm just pissed if at the sheer amount of people looking to justify their cough as 'not covid' rather then just get tested.

some of the responses on here to what was a perfectly innocent question!

It's not an innocent question. You would have to have been locked away in a dark room to not be aware that a cough = test

OP sorry some people have been so rude and don’t seem to be able to respond like rational adults!

I only respond like a rational adult to people who behave as such.

A PP hit the nail on the head earlier with the fact that nobody wants to isolate and test so close to Christmas. OP also knows full well the family needs to be tested.

snookercue · 24/12/2020 00:24

Just to clarify - a NEW cough = test

starray · 24/12/2020 01:59

I had a phlegmy cough and was positive.

thedalaisllama · 24/12/2020 02:36

I agree some rude fuckwits on this thread. I think you know by now OP that you should get a test, I had a phlegmy cough when I was +ve.
