Just that really. All our family (kids as well plus MIL) have the same phlegmy cough have done for a few days. OH says there's no need to be tested as it's not a dry cough. Have felt a bit headachy and tired too but starting to feel like it's on its way out now. Other family members have said not to bother with test too but I'm an anxious person. We're not really particularly ill, just the phlegmy cough. It is a dry cough that we should be worried about isn't it? Not a productive cough?

People wondering why I'm hesitant. Because I've been told by several people that I'm just being silly and and anxious as per. I was feeling fine but now I'm having a full on panic attack about it. I've been tested twice already and been negative, I have no issues with being tested but my family are telling me I don't need to worry. But I am and I do worry. I don't know what to do because logically we don't meet the criteria. But then people on here are saying they had it with a productive cough so I'm worried now.
What do you mean you don’t meet the criteria?

You have a cough Confused That is the criteria!

Jinglingmod · 23/12/2020 16:03

You have a cough. A new cough. That is one of the three main criteria. You meet the criteria. Get a test (all of you).

You do meet the criteria though, you have coughs?

You do meet the criteria though you all have a cough therefore you all have a symptom.
spagbog5 · 23/12/2020 16:05

We have phlegmy coughs and cold/ flu like symptoms.
We are all covid positive
Please get a test

NeonSparkle · 23/12/2020 16:06

I had no other symptoms other than a slight phlegmy cough and I tested positive.

UncomfortableSilence · 23/12/2020 16:06

My cough is neither dry or continuous and I am positive, don't take risks just get a test.

Cornettoninja · 23/12/2020 16:06

The people around you are wrong. It’s winter and there are plenty of other bugs about but you have no way to differentiate them without a test.

I’m sure 111 have a symptom checker, there’s a wealth of nhs and government information to back you up. Unless whoever is talking you out of it has an experienced professional point to make they’re chatting shit.

You do meet the criteria. The criteria is a continuous cough, with definition of 3 coughing episodes in 24 hrs. Pretty sure from your description you hit that. Doesn't say anything about a dry cough. You and the rest with symptoms need to test and your whole household isolate. I really hope you haven't been going out or seeing anyone!
snookercue · 23/12/2020 16:13

Out of order. How about responding civilly like an actual human being.

You have got to be joking?

If you want to talk about reasonable and civil behaviour then if you ah e a cough you get tested. I'm sick to fucking death of these kinds of posts. Don't come at me because of someone else's failing.

ineedaholidaynow · 23/12/2020 16:15

A new cough needs to be tested for, doesn't matter what type of cough

RandomUsernameHere · 23/12/2020 16:17

Asking strangers on the internet is not going to give you an answer unfortunately.

HairyFloppins · 23/12/2020 16:17

DH has produced some quite disgusting phlegm since testing positive.

thepeopleversuswork · 23/12/2020 16:18

Why wouldn't you get a test FFS?

With as much respect as I can muster, your family are behaving like idiots. New variant is out of control. GET A TEST.

BlackKittyKat · 23/12/2020 16:23

I've got Covid. I have a phlegmy cough.

Get tested.

WrongKindOfFace · 23/12/2020 16:26

At the beginning they did seem to say a dry cough, which is probably why people aren’t sure.

But yeah, get a test. Hope you feel better soon.

skankingpiglet · 23/12/2020 16:35

You do need to all get a test, but I can understand where the confusion lies. Both our council's Facebook page and my DCs school have stated a new or continuous dry cough. The message hasn't been consistent, and DCs' school were explicit that if the cough was accompanied with the snots they could still come in without a test.

Therealone · 23/12/2020 16:35

Please, please all of you isolate and get a test ASAP.

LegallyBlondeee · 23/12/2020 16:41

@heathcliffthe2nd

FFS. Do you not watch the news??? It’s a fucking cough. Get a fucking test.
Do you need a sit down and a drink while we put your toys back in your pram?
BuzzingTheBee · 23/12/2020 16:45

Get a test!!!!!

Nah @buffyp is right, no need to talk to someone like shit. OP was asking a question, it's simple enough to answer without being a dick.
WanderingFruitWonderer · 23/12/2020 16:56

In the beginning they were saying dry cough. New, continuous and dry. So I understand why the OP thought that. They seem now to be saying just new and continuous. I'm not sure when they changed it?
I actually understand the OP. It can be confusing. I wanted to get tested recently, and was refused, due to test rationing, as I have a cough often generally. It wasn't new. But I felt dizzy etc. So I isolated anyway for a while.
Yes, I would recommend a test OP, for your own peace of mind. The fact you're asking the question shows you care. Hopefully it'll be negative. I hope you feel better soon too Flowers

Bonkerz · 23/12/2020 16:58

No cough at all here in whole household. No temp and no loss of taste etc but 5 positive tests. Just do a test

FoodDrive · 23/12/2020 17:18

I would hazard a guess that the reason people are not testing is because they don’t want the subsequent isolation - and can’t then meet up on Xmas day - scary

snookercue · 23/12/2020 17:32

Nah @buffyp is right, no need to talk to someone like shit. OP was asking a question, it's simple enough to answer without being a dick.

OP was being a dick. OP has a cough and needs to isolate and test. It's a dick move to suggest it is not a covid cough based on phlegm. You stand up for OP who was 'only asking a question' but seem to omit the fact that the answer to said question has been staring is all in the face for months.

@FoodDrive is right, nobody wants to be isolating now, do they?
