I was thinking of all the words which have become part of everyday language this year, which I for one would like never to hear again!

I will start:

Wuhan

OP posts:
peekiboo · 21/12/2020 12:16

@TravellingSpoon

'Next slide please'.
Xmas Grin
Lavanderrose · 21/12/2020 12:18

“exponential” or “ exponential growth”

“Your on mute”

GoneScone · 21/12/2020 12:18

I'd heard of furlough, on OITNB, in which context it meant compassionate leave from prison Grin

Snowsx · 21/12/2020 12:18

@TravellingSpoon

'Next slide please'.
That made me laugh more than it should have hahaha 😂
Maisiecow · 21/12/2020 12:19

Stay ‘the fuck’ at home.
Covidiot.

RudolphToldRedNoseNotSymptom · 21/12/2020 12:24

'I can't see you David, or you Jane'

Yes, that's because I'm smoking a cigarette before my Pilates session and there is no need for you to see that. I'm saving you from the horror.

IcedPurple · 21/12/2020 12:58

Virtual event

Virtual experience

Both of the above are contradictions in terms.

CKBJ · 21/12/2020 13:05

Self isolating
Mask on
2metres, 2metres
Tiers
Lockdown

HalfDutchGirl · 21/12/2020 13:05

Already said by a PP but definitely ‘unprecedented’ is my nervous tic word, and it’s not just words we’d never heard before but also people...

Who had heard of Chris Witty or JVT prior to all this bollocks. And even thought I knew of Laura Kuenssberg I am sooooo sick to death of her now!

Scarby9 · 21/12/2020 13:12

Quarantine. Not a new word but used in new ways eg. I'm quarantining my post.

PrincessGraceless · 21/12/2020 13:39

Coronacoaster (ride)

IcedPurple · 21/12/2020 13:42

Go for a walk.

Not a new expression obviously. But so bloody sick of hearing it, however well intentioned it may be.

x2boys · 21/12/2020 13:47

Bloody key worker and working from home very over used on here 😂
Remote learning Hmm

SpamIAm · 21/12/2020 13:49

Anosmia!

RhubarbTea · 21/12/2020 13:52

I was thinking about this just the other day, all the phrases and terms we have adopted in such a short time. Particularly:

Tier
Zoom
Bubbled with
Self isolate
Clinically vulnerable
Lockdown
Test swab
Anti-masker
Chris Whitty
Face shield / face covering
Support bubble
Long Covid

Gufo · 21/12/2020 19:58

clap for the NHS

ring a bell for Santa

RudolphToldRedNoseNotSymptom · 21/12/2020 20:14

@Scarby9

Quarantine. Not a new word but used in new ways eg. I'm quarantining my post.
Useless fact I learned on FB: In the plague times, ships were held for 40 days before being allowed to dock. Quaranta is Italian for 40, and that's how 'quarantine' was derived.
RudolphToldRedNoseNotSymptom · 21/12/2020 20:16

Nobody outside of the UK has heard of furlough. We're very familiar with it here.

My phone now recognises COVID and lockdown.

Scarby9 · 21/12/2020 20:19

@Rudolph That fact has made my day! Thank you.

Fleshlumpeater · 21/12/2020 20:20

Key bloody worker!!

TheAnswerIsCake · 21/12/2020 20:26

AGP (Aerosol Generating Procedure)
FFP3
And although “doff” is not a new word, I’ve never used it so much. We have a whole room dedicated to doffing!

Also “now, more than ever”. And in the early days absolutely everything was “unprecedented”. That one has died down now... we’ve set all the precedents!

Chelsea567 · 21/12/2020 20:28

Variant. Apparently less scary than saying new virus

MrsWarleggan · 21/12/2020 20:30

Not a new word, but a word that's been chuffing over used:

Selfish.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/12/2020 20:35

Social distancing

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2020 20:36

Uptick
