Just posted on another thread and I thought I'd give people a heads up to those that want to stay safe and keep others safe.

Someone we know was a fool and took a lift with a workmate as their other half was using the car. This person shared a car trip to work for 7 minutes max. Both of the fools did not wear a mask or open a window.
The driver then rang the person we knew a couple of days latter telling her that they had been diagonsed with Covid as their husband had it and that's why she took the test. So the person we know took the test and got a postive result.

This person is 65, working, no other medical problems. 7 days in from sharing the car they have no symptoms which is good. But you can become ill on the 10th/11th day from what I read or it gets worse.

As it's been a week and no symptoms, things are looking up.

I hope this thread helps and you are now more aware how easy Covid passes from person to person in an enclosed environment within a few minutes and both had no symptoms.

It is scary but hopefully taking precations, not sharing a car with strangers and when you do wear a mask, open windows, talk as little as possible and keep journeys small as possible may hopefully help all.

That's not a great example.

We’ve just come out of self isolation. My DS tested positive. There are 6 of us in the house. He is my son, I could not socially distance from him. He was not confined to his room. The windows were closed. The heating was on. We all share one bathroom. Not one of us caught it from him. We got tested (privately) and we were all negative. No symptoms. He had the new strain, he was one of the cases they tested for the new strain.

Frankly, I think the people in your example were being foolhardy. It's been well documented everywhere that you should avoid things like this and if your friend did end up dying, I would be chalking them up for a Darwin Award.

@FindHungrySamurai is a voice of reason, as well as many others.

EugenesAxe · 20/12/2020 17:44

Well, given your 'shock' at the tale, I expect we're all following the guidance a lot more than you are Hmm

EugenesAxe · 20/12/2020 17:44

Quote fail... that was in response to your last comment.

Sharing a car is a big risk.

ivfbeenbusy · 20/12/2020 17:50

Sitting a few inches from another person in an enclosed space with little ventilation .....who knew it would be so contagious in this sort of environment 🤷‍♀️

MG2020 · 20/12/2020 19:33

@DecemberDiana

Sharing a car is a big risk.
Especially when not wearing a mask and not opening windows .

@madcatladyforever

Its spreading like wildfire at work (NHS) half of our staff are off with it and we're in a tier 2 area. Last time nobody had it. So far I've been ok, I've stayed in my clinic room, I email colleagues or talk to them 2 meters away, my windows are cracked open, my hands are red raw from washing them. I will only allow one other person i.e my patient in my room. I have been carefully watching and hand washing doesn't seem to be a priority for a lot of people.
Its wierd isn't it because we are the opposite(care home) spread like wildfire in March, many staff poorly too and this time we have had a couple positive staff a few weeks ago who had no symptoms and didn't pass it on to any residents.

I caught it giving a week colleague with no symptoms a five minute lift down the road. My toddler, who was in the back also caught it from her. It happens

DecemberDiana · 20/12/2020 20:54

The efficacy of the low quality masks most of us use are still a moot point.

Try not to breathe shared air!

I too can't quite believe your shock at this!

I know I “know” this, but somehow I’m still so shocked that this is all it takes.

It has actually really made me think.

I live in middle of nowhere, wfh, so don’t have much interaction or need to mix with others so this is actually really focusing my mind more on risks perhaps I was a bit more blasé about than I ought to have been.

Enidblyton1 · 20/12/2020 23:46

Umm... so these two people are work mates? How do you know that they didn’t pass it between each other in their workplace?! Why does it specifically have to be on the car journey?
Also, no evidence that the passenger caught it from the driver - could have caught it from anyone else!
Not sure you post proves anything whatsoever Grin

Enidblyton1 · 20/12/2020 23:48

Not that I’m advocating sharing cars. With no masks or ventilation they are hotbeds of transmission.
Just that your example doesn’t prove anything.
