I almost can’t stand it. What the hell will they be announcing now?

The problem with Boris is that he wants too much to be liked.

This is so true. He's like those parents who refuses to discipline their child because they want to be their best friend.

donquixotedelamancha · 19/12/2020 14:24

Perhaps Mr Johnson will announce his resignation. It is Christmas after all.

Rhine · 19/12/2020 14:24

@unchienandalusia

Hair cuts, tickets booked and food shopping v mutant strain of pandemic causing virus. Give me strength.
I know! They seriously need to get some perspective. Bloody selfish fuckers.

Do they think anyone likes any of this?!

Unsure33 · 19/12/2020 14:24

Personally I thought at the time giving people personal responsibility was a good idea. But reading some posts on here who insist on being personally insulting and political about a worldwide pandemic then perhaps they should have magically predicted a more contagious mutuation and banned all mixing of households.

It seems a lot of people only hear what they want to.

Polkadotties · 19/12/2020 14:25

Boris isn’t going to be liked if he cancels the Christmas bubbles in London and the SE.

ikswobel · 19/12/2020 14:26
Xmas Hmm
BlueBrian · 19/12/2020 14:26

Laura Kuenssberg reckons:
Cabinet members have been briefed that the PM expected to announce a Tier 4, tighter covid restrictions for London and SE at 4pm this afternoon - and will cut back on the planned relaxation of the rules over Christmas

RedToothBrush · 19/12/2020 14:26

@Polkadotties

Boris isn’t going to be liked if he cancels the Christmas bubbles in London and the SE.
You assume he is currently liked. I'm not sure he is particularly popular in London already!
BlairCorneliaWaldorf · 19/12/2020 14:28

@BlueBrian

No travelling in and out of the SE seems possible, stop the underground, railways, and close the motorways, that would stop everybody except the completely idiotic from going anywhere.
And how exactly will emergency service workers/healthcare workers get to work? Not to mention essential retail?

The underground is ridiculously quiet anyway, even during rush hour. There is absolutely no need for this complete over reaction.

Kokeshi123 · 19/12/2020 14:28

Boris isn’t going to be liked if he cancels the Christmas bubbles in London and the SE.

Of course not. But overpromising is a common trait in people who really like to be liked! It backfires in the end though.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 19/12/2020 14:28

Laura Kuenssberg: "PM expected to announce tier 4 and tighter Christmas rules"

If they dare to stick W Yorks and Lancs in tier 4, even though our cases are right down, I swear I will explode. We should be in tier 2 now, not stuck in tier 3.

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2020 14:28

What is tier 4??

Unsure33 · 19/12/2020 14:28

Wants to be liked ? Are you having a laugh ? 50% of people don’t wNt any lockdown at all ?

Businesses closing are apparently his fault not the pandemic?

He can not win despite putting millions into research and vaccines and furlough etc .

chocolatesaltyxmaspudballs · 19/12/2020 14:29

@RedToothBrush

BBC News now reporting T4 expected for london and south east.
What will tier 4 be then?

I do hope that whatever tougher restrictions are put in place, they only apply to the areas where it's needed.

snowballer · 19/12/2020 14:29

So Boris Bingo for the press conference. High likelihood of the following:

"Alas..."
"Folks"
"...with a heavy heart..."
"none of this is our fault and no one could have foreseen this, please like us, please"

Perhaps not the last, but it's certainly the one that will be thought but unsaid.

Roominmyhouse · 19/12/2020 14:30

I wonder when this tier 4 will start if that’s what is happening. Was due to meet my parents outside on Tuesday to do a present handover as being in a hotspot we’ve decided not to see anyone over Christmas. Might be a last minute dash to the post office on Monday to post presents at this rate!

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 19/12/2020 14:30

We are supposed to be going to my parents - bubble of two families. In south east. Where the fuck are we going to get our Christmas food from if they cancel!

This has been my lifeline for months. I will be so upset.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 19/12/2020 14:30

What will tier 4 be then?

At a GUESS - closure of non-essential shops, no meeting up at all, even outdoors.

GrumpySausage · 19/12/2020 14:31

There wasn't all this hoo-ha when rates in the north of England were up in the 400s and more. Our rates are really low now, but because London's rates have gone up we're all expected to panic. Glad I'm not the only one who was pissed off at this. When Andy Burnham was stamping his feet demanding more support he was pretty much told to shut up and go away, there is no money in the pot, there's a pandemic on. London gets closed down and all those little businesses need support, you know...

Gosh how true this is. I was furious at the press conference last week when they announced London and SE in tier 3. Where was all this hand wringing and woe is me when it happened up north? The media couldn't have cared less. Andy Burnham may have been doing it but the media made him seems like a over zealous idiot who was being awkward for the sake of it. Now its London, apparently its a financial travesty.

It made us who have stuck to the rules and done their bloody best in the North look like we hadn't given a damn this whole time whilst London have just been unlucky and its not their fault there is a new strain. The hypocrisy is astounding.

Might have something to do with the fact that London generates at least a third of GDP and over 40% of UK taxes.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 19/12/2020 14:32

Might be a last minute dash to the post office on Monday to post presents at this rate!

Send them tracked - I sent a tracked parcel 200 miles earlier this week - arrived within 24 hours. Costly but worth it.

It's almost possible in a moment of generosity to excuse the delayed response in March because this was new to everyone.

It is impossible to excuse the absolute failure of competent government at all times since June. Consistently and repeatedly this government has fucked everything up. Every major decision has been delayed, bungled, u-turned on or not taken. All that has led to us having (quite astoundingly) a winning combination of being at the top of the table for both deaths and economy damage. It's absolutely inexcusable.

EurosprogBauble · 19/12/2020 14:32

@MarshaBradyo

What is tier 4??
If you watch the press conference they will probably tell you.
SpringerJS · 19/12/2020 14:32

Caroline Wheeler tweeting that London,SE and E will have ‘Christmas cancelled with stay at home message by law’, and Christmas bubbles for Tiers 1-3 only allowed for Xmas Day itself.

Dahlietta · 19/12/2020 14:33

to be honest, if youve spent 1 day in the house altogether, it wont matter if you spend 5.

It isn’t about how much time you spend together with one other group though, it’s more about limiting how many people you see to the ‘essentials’ and limiting how far people will travel, I assume.
