I almost can’t stand it. What the hell will they be announcing now?

Let’s all book a holiday and fly somewhere. We’re allowed to do that.

loveyoutothemoon · 19/12/2020 18:24

No you're not!

NoGoodPunsLeft · 19/12/2020 18:27

@ActonBell

We’re not in the South East. We took DS out of nursery so we could effectively isolate for 2 weeks before seeing my parents on Christmas Day. DH has a couple of occasions for work when he has to be in a very large space (a big hall), socially distanced at more than 2 metres and masked with others for a short period of time (an hour max). Other than that we are having no contact outside our household.

My parents were happy that we had minimised the risk as much as possible. We live 30 mins from them and haven’t seen them since July apart from dropping off shopping a couple of times. We were planning to stay 2 nights with them.

I know the rules will now say this is not possible. We’ve followed every rule to the letter up to this point. What’s getting to me now is that we are being so careful and if it was one parent rather than two we could be a bubble with them in any case. My parents don’t go out anymore and they are desperate for our company.

For the first time in all of this I feel really torn.

You could still go for the day as it's only 30 mins away. We are the same time from ILs, we're seeing them Christmas Day morning, my mum Christmas Day afternoon.

My friends daughter died two weeks ago. She was 15. Her funeral is on Monday. Now in a tier 4....not sure anyone apart from the parents will be able to attend.

That's heart breaking

Technically I share office in Eastbourne with hubby but have been WFH!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/12/2020 18:33

Let’s all book a holiday and fly somewhere. We’re allowed to do that. I believe Boris said we should only travel abroad if necessary and for work reasons?

Beautifulbonnie · 19/12/2020 18:33

@Stuffofawesome

It is what it is. We can’t change it. Her death was known to be near. It was a terminal illness diagnosed a year ago. But it’s hit hard. We couldn’t do her bucket list as we couldn’t take the risk. But she got some stuff done.

We can’t change it. We can’t make her come back.

It makes Xmas pale in comparison if I’m honest.

Beautifulbonnie · 19/12/2020 18:35

@Stuffofawesome. But thank you. Thank you for replying. Thank you for your words. She’d like that. We had strangers from all over the world send love.

DecemberDiana · 19/12/2020 18:37

I take it high value individuals can still fly in?

piddocktrumperiness · 19/12/2020 18:39

Are international flights into other airports like Bristol (Tier 2) still ok?

BethlehemIsInTier1 · 19/12/2020 18:43

Boris Johnson is pure evil, no one ever will ever make me think differently, more fool anyone who continues to put up with this dictatorship. I guarantee him and his scummy chums will still be doing what they want this Christmas.

I haven’t heard anything to the contrary.

Ah. I'm baffled as to why Eastbourne and Crawley aren't in at least tier three as cases are rocketing.

That's dreadfully sad. So sorry.

I will light a candle for her Monday. Thanks

MattTebbutsForearms · 19/12/2020 18:55

@Beautifulbonnie I'm so sorry to hear about that. No matter how it was expected, that is utterly heart breaking. And yes, it puts a lot of the Christmas restrictions into perspective. I have old relatives. It's sad that it may be their last, but for some folk it seems like a bloody competition.

Huge hugs and Flowers to you and her family.

bettxmascake · 19/12/2020 18:59

@nosswith

I think that he has deliberately waited until today to announce it so that it cannot be discussed in Parliament. The issues were known about on Monday.
I think they waited until the xmas holidays so they couldn't be criticised for announcing that at the same time as saying schools were not allowed to teach online for the final week of term.

Weddings, civil partnerships, and funerals

Weddings, civil partnership ceremonies and funerals must only take place in COVID-19 secure venues or in public outdoor spaces unless in exceptional circumstances.

Funerals can be attended by a maximum of 30 people. Linked religious, belief-based or commemorative events, such as stone settings and ash scatterings can also continue with up to 6 people in attendance. Anyone working is not counted in these limits. Social distancing should be maintained between people who do not live together or share a support bubble.

@Cloudhopping

For all those complaining about the new rules- why are you surprised? Why did you plan a big family gathering (even if it was with 3 households and was ‘allowed’)? We’re in the middle of a pandemic and the common sense approach was always to make Christmas as quiet and simple as possible. I have no sympathy for those that were planning a get together with several others even if this was family. It’s just daft.

We are in a low risk area (at the moment) but made the difficult decision not to travel to see elderly parents in law or my brothers weeks ago. Its always been about minimising risk where possible.

People are allowed to be frustrated and pissed off.

We didn't plan any family gatherings as it happens but that is because we stopped the Christmas travelling malarkey when our children were babies and it became impractical.

We are, however, hoping to have Christmas dinner with just our own household at a local restaurant just 5 minutes walk from our house. That is what we normally do anyway. So far we have been fortunate and our area is one of the few parts of Essex remaining in tier 2. I hope it remains that way, but I guess we'll cope if it doesn't.

I have every sympathy for families who were looking forward to meeting up for the first time in many months and have now had their carefully laid plans thrown into disarray.

Oh that's a relief. Thanks.
I don't think anyone had replied to your question at this point.

Will London transport still be running as normal? I can’t find anything about this in the news.

How will key workers get to work if not?
