**@ActonBellI* do realise they can’t make ‘bespoke’ laws to cover every situation.*

That's the issue isn't it. some people could break the rules & it would be less risk than others in different areas.
The issue is that the country has accepted tyranny and enjoys it, to the point it won’t go away in my lifetime.

Unless I live very long, which I bloody hope doesn’t happen, though of course I have sone control over that at least.

motherrunner · 19/12/2020 17:47

I’m a secondary teacher (& so is DH) in the West Mids. I haven’t seen my mum since March as her nursing home has never reopened due to where we live. When I posted about my mental health I have been told to ‘suck it up’, ‘quit my job’ and ‘think about the greater good’.

I offer that advice to everyone else.

MissEliza · 19/12/2020 17:47

@trappedsincesundaymorn

I have no sympathy for those that were planning a get together with several others even if this was family. It’s just daft

We were going to spend Christmas day with my sister and her family and raise a glass or 2 together for our parents who both died this year. for the third time this year we, as a bereaved family have been told to suck it up. No decent funerals, no wakes and now no Christmas day together as it would mean more than 2 households meeting.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's shit.
midscram · 19/12/2020 17:49

@AcornAutumn Some people will be so gleeful that "christmas is cancelled".

littleowl1 · 19/12/2020 17:49

I run www.covidmessenger.com and I have just been through today's data by council and it is really grim.

I live in tier 4 and, frankly, this week I have been watching the daily cases rocket in my council and all my neighbouring councils.

It has been terrifying to watch - sometimes doubling in 3 days from already-non-trivial levels. I had a right old rant on the data thread about this earlier this week - I could not understand how no one seemed to be noticing what was happening in our county and no action was being taken by govt.

Well I guess they were paying attention and they did take action today.

In fairness. As much as I dread the restrictions I am also immensely relieved. It was needed desperately. Our local hospitals are full and already over their normal ICU capacity. Yet it just doesnt seem to hit the headlines - why???

Anyway, sorry for the rant.

If anyone wants to monitor the cases in their local council daily you are welcome to check the table I produce daily for every council in England www.covidmessenger.com.

midscram · 19/12/2020 17:50

@motherrunner excellent contribution 🙄

Whatwouldscullydo · 19/12/2020 17:50

@catpoooffendernot stupid for wanting to, but stupid for planning to

But up until today they were allowed to. Why do people insist on making up rules all the time. This competitive isolation/misery bollocks was pathetic enough the first time round.

No one was stupid for planning to do anything within the rules set at the time. I'm so sick of all the made up rules where no ones going to be happy unless they everyone is stuck home alone eating the dog biscuits

FlappingPancakes · 19/12/2020 17:51

I think it's ridiculous.

We can't travel out of tier 4 yet the airport is open

We are in tier4 but our rate per 100,000 is lower than some in tier2

If we need to lockdown, then properly the fuck lockdown and close the airport to passengers and lockdown areas based on their per 100,00 rate and get on with it

AcornAutumn · 19/12/2020 17:53

Yes

Do you think they say this IRL?

NHS hospital data also available for those not worried about the casedemic

Just like the “excellent contributions” I have been offered over the past few months.

That’s after they’ve eaten the dog

Those people probably don’t eat carbs either.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 19/12/2020 17:54

Curly they take samples and dna them... That's what Boris was referring to with his DNA boasting.

A friend's newly qualified daughter does some of the testing for new strains. There have been many, this one is caused alarm only because if it's increased transmission rate.

I thought you were on Eastbourne?
52andblue · 19/12/2020 17:55

I guess I just tell them not to be so stupid?
It seems ridiculous to me that, at their age, they feel immune.
I think it's really selfish too.
Tbf, I have other elderly rellies (with more standard living arrangements!) who have barely left the house since March and are still quarantining shopping deliveries etc even though they are not clinically vulnerable

waltzingparrot · 19/12/2020 17:56

@Taystee29

£100 down the drain for me. Booked a hotel for the 27th in a t3 area and train tickets. Oh well, all that matters is Covid hey Hmm
I've got refunds on train tickets prior to travel date before.
LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 19/12/2020 17:58

Less then a day in 3 and now up to 4..the timing is so stupid! Should've been done earlier in the week or Christmas mixing not announced at all until things became clearer.

Feel sorry for businesses who have to shut just like that

@motherrunner is this thread full of the same posters?

Tarararara · 19/12/2020 18:01

@littleowl1 I subscribe to your service (thank you!) and have been watching the numbers in Kent with incredulity - entered lockdown from tier 1 with low cases, left lockdown with high cases, and skyrocketed since tier 3. I am somewhat relieved that there is now an explanation for this, as it defied logic. But it suggests that tier 4 will not be able to contain this...

Purplethrow · 19/12/2020 18:03

Are non essential shops doing click and collect?

pickingdaisies · 19/12/2020 18:05

Ah well. Thats the earliest I've opened a bottle of wine for some time. CheersSad

RedToothBrush · 19/12/2020 18:06

Do you think they have time to sort this out?!!!

Yes if they do it anyway...

If people actually follow the rules about Christmas then it might work until the schools get back.
