@perditaplum you are right, you can’t see her Boxing Day
Bollocks.
We'll have to see her after she's finished work then.

Goldencurtain · 19/12/2020 16:41

@Tyranttoddler

Ah my sister lives alone in London and was due to come to us. She's seen no one since March. It's such a small thing but I feel so rubbish for her.
How come she's seen no-one since March?
Circumlocutious · 19/12/2020 16:41

It was terribly misguided for the government to announce the Christmas relaxation plan in the first place - and so many weeks ago, too. The majority of other European countries are implementing Christmas travel restrictions and all sorts - why would the UK be any different?

Timeturnerplease · 19/12/2020 16:42

@CeeceeBloomingdale Thanks for clarifying. Yes she’s on her own, can’t bubble with my sister and her husband more locally as sister is pregnant and has severe asthma, and Mum works in a shop. We’re her support bubble. Just not sure if she can travel and stay....

We do have a childcare bubble with my in laws but that ceased earlier this week when a child in my class tested positive and we went into isolation. Won’t resume until 4th January.

catpoooffender · 19/12/2020 16:42

sky news is saying three households can still meet on Christmas Day outside tier 4.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 19/12/2020 16:42

@Lougle

"RichardMarxisinnocent

Lurkingforawhile

We were in tier two yesterday, now in tier four tomorrow. So gutted. Our rates are around the national average so it's a bit of a shock. Doesn't change our Xmas plans but going to miss swimming etc

Really? I though he said it was tier 3 areas in London and the south east moving to tier 4? He didn't mention any tier 2 areas changing."

I think because some areas went from 2 to 3 today, so now they're going into 4 tomorrow.

Ah thank you, that makes sense.

@catpoooffender oh, thanks
Clear as mud then 😂

Sn0tnose · 19/12/2020 16:42

I missed his announcement, I know my area will be in Tier 4, did anyone hear him say anything about restaurants/pubs etc closing for takeaways? (I’m thinking of family members jobs rather than my stomach).

tootyfruitypickle · 19/12/2020 16:42

Tier 1-3 is 2 households just xmas day

cptartapp · 19/12/2020 16:42

No reduction in households meeting inTier 3. I was listening for this too.

catpoooffender · 19/12/2020 16:42

@perditaplum I think you can if you're both tier 1

CastleOfDoom · 19/12/2020 16:43

@Lucindainthesky

People who were planning buffets for 16 should be put into indefinite lockdown. Restrictions should be decided by IQ rather than area
Give over. This was allowed, the rules were clear.
tootyfruitypickle · 19/12/2020 16:43

I’m also tier 2 SE but literally everyone I know is in tier 4!

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2020 16:43

Do we have an idea of how long this tier 4 will last?

Or they haven’t said

@cdtaylornats

I have to wait an hour to listen to Nicola say exactly the same as Boris with slightly different words.
When is her announcement? I can't find anything online.
VulvaPerson · 19/12/2020 16:43

@Zofloramummy

I’m a single parent, had already planned to spend Xmas at home. But I was planning on going to see my parents on Boxing Day for a few hours so they could see dd. We have been isolating since school closed and Boxing Day would be day 16 to avoid the chances of either of us (I work in a school) being infectious. We can’t go now can we Sad
Assuming 'support bubbles' are still allowed, do you have one already? If not, you could see them under that I think without breaking the rules..
tootyfruitypickle · 19/12/2020 16:43

Sorry I may have made that up about 2 households as that’s what I was expecting . Ignore me!

Beautifulbonnie · 19/12/2020 16:43

@SeaSeeker

Yes. Only for Xmas day only. It’s sad for sure. But they want to restrict social movement. So no staying over or travelling through tiers it seems.

Maze76 · 19/12/2020 16:43

Yes, I am being serious, Why the rude response??

AuntieStella · 19/12/2020 16:43

that a serious question! Did you believe in weapons of mass destruction ready in 45 mins?

That one wasn't the Tories

press conferences should be sponsored by Confused.com.

But only one 'alas' so far, so even with the drinking game we're all still sober

catpoooffender · 19/12/2020 16:44

@tootyfruitypickle

Tier 1-3 is 2 households just xmas day
As in you can mix with two other households. Making three household bubbles.
NoGoodPunsLeft · 19/12/2020 16:44

@Yuppie20

So I'm trying to figure out, I'm in NI and supposed to be flying with my partner and baby to my mum and dad's between 24th and 28th Dec. Does this mean now that I can't go? I understand the urgency of needing something but my mum and dad were alone last year and can't bear the thought of them being alone again this year, my baby brother died on xmas eve and its just so important for out mental health to be together this year. I'm devastated 💔
Unfortunately not, we are now limited to Christmas day only Xmas Sad
chomalungma · 19/12/2020 16:44

Guardian

We must look again at Christmas, he says.

Given the early evidence on the new variant of the virus, the potential risk means we cannot continue with Christmas as planned, he says.

Those in tier 4 areas should not mix with anyone outside their household at Christmas, though support bubbles will remain in place.

Across the rest of the country, up to three households can meet but this will be limited to Christmas Day only, rather than the five days previously set out.

There will be no relaxation on the 31 December, so people must not break the rules for new year’s, he says.
