I almost can’t stand it. What the hell will they be announcing now?

On brighter news, at least it'll be fun - and give folk somethoing else to rant about - when various government members are caught breaking da rulez over Christmas (and they will be, because the press will be just waiting for it)

Beautifulbonnie · 19/12/2020 15:40
@Elfieishere if you’re entitled to do that, then we all are. What would happen if we all ignore the rules? We would be killing people. It’s as simple as that.
Don’t feed the troll

@Wrecktal she seems to spend her life trolling the net. She wouldn’t say boo to a goose in real life I bet.

herecomestheSon · 19/12/2020 15:40

they however might regret knowing that a relative had become ill, especially, possibly , if they or their family appear to have been the unwitting cause of the infection

yeOldeTrout · 19/12/2020 15:41

I guess if one person has to roll back the Xmas relaxation for a lot of people, BJ is the man. "Powers of persuasion" and all that.

I am pretty sure other countries have had a lot of mixed confused changing advice too. I don't know why Brits are determined to think of themselves as especially finding the pandemic challenging. France & Spain look all over the shop with advice, too (for instance). Let's not even start talking about Florida.

Bin85 · 19/12/2020 15:41

Have already decided
Just DH and me although we would normally see 21 people from 8 households.

treening · 19/12/2020 15:41

Just like they do every other day of the year.

I havent been managing and nor have lots of others.

I feel the worst I've ever felt in my life and I've had two stillbirths.

midscram · 19/12/2020 15:42

As for proper enforcement, I would have those who have made long non-essential journeys or broken quarantine have a driving ban, or loss of passport. Even if it took a year to bring them to court before doing so. Paltry fines are not the answer, people will take the risk.

So you accept people won't stick to the rules? And how will you find those people to enforce those measures? the police don't have the time. Confiscate passports?!

MadameBlobby · 19/12/2020 15:42

*Well if Boris has any guts he will be cancelling Christmas and putting the whole country back into complete lockdown.

Yes I know it will mean the end of lots of shops, restaurants etc but it is the sensible thing to do.*

Yes, fuck the people who work in these places, eh.

This is all madness. Even in places where it’s “rife” 99% of people don’t have it!!

Sertchgi123 · 19/12/2020 15:43

@Hapixmas

Fucking ridiculous. So fed up. I understand why we shouldn't be mixing. But he literally confirmed Wednesday that Christmas bubbles are still on. Why change it 3 days later. He knew what the situation was. People have spent money on food, travel etc... I wonder what they'll do about people who will be alone?
Why change it? It's bloody obvious, it's the rising number of new cases of the virus!

Yes, we could have bets on who will get rumbled!
midscram · 19/12/2020 15:44

Do most people who want tougher lockdowns wfh? I expect they still want "other people" to go out so they can receive deliveries & have working utilities.

TheMerrickBoy · 19/12/2020 15:45

I cannot bear this, I really can't. I haven't seen my daughter in London since September, this was keeping us all going - our plans for Christmas were basically the same as our plans for lockdown 1 but with nicer food (stay in house, maybe go for walks, no shops, no bars, no socialising). I can't quite believe it's going to be taken away at this late stage.
No thoughts about the rights and wrongs of any options here, just so stressed and sad.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/12/2020 15:46

Don't spoil it, MadameBlobby ... it's supposed to be the worst thing that's happened in years and you don't want to be bringing common sense into it Wink

starfish4 · 19/12/2020 15:46

Whatever your plans, it shit all the way around. No one on either side of our family wants to mix over Xmas, which suits us as we can't bring ourselves to risk spreading it. Doesn't mean we wouldn't love to get together, and I for one have almost been pining over this knowing others have the courage to celebrate together and we'll miss out. On the other hand, if you're comfortable with mixing for whatever reason, it can't be pleasant having it taken away from you no matter how good the reason.

ValancyRedfern · 19/12/2020 15:48

@SufferingFromLongLockdown

*Elfie they wouldn't refuse you treatment because you saw your family but you might not be able to get treatment because the NHS is overwhelmed after Xmas.

Does that make sense?*

If the NHS is overwhelmed, it's overwhelmed. It's been underfunded and neglected for years. If Elfie's relative is in danger of not getting treatment in the new year, all the better reason to see them now.

No one will look back on this time, having lost a relative and feel that at least they stayed away. This is time we can't get back.

Absolutely. My grandad is 90. Will I feel happy not to have seen him at Xmas, and to have deprive him of seeing his great grandkids? Absolutely not. It is going to be one of his last Christmases no matter what. He wants to spend it with his family.
JacobReesMogadishu · 19/12/2020 15:49

How can that bbc bloke say we still have surge capacity with the nightingale hospitals....hasn’t he realised they have no staff!

herecomestheSon · 19/12/2020 15:49

We know that covid can be caught repeatedly (there is evidence it can be caught as little as 6 weeks apart and the second infection can be more severe than the first).

However, this would not necessarily mean that the vaccines are without value. It may be that repeated doses need to be given, like the flu.

Even though the flu vaccine isn't 100% effective, in fact much less that that, it can still save lives, enough to be worth huge vaccination programmes on a yearly basis.

nosswith · 19/12/2020 15:51

BBC talking about test and trace again, one of the government's biggest failures.

DickAndSizzy · 19/12/2020 15:51

No thoughts about the rights and wrongs of any options here, just so stressed and sad.

Whatever your plans, it shit all the way around.

These sum it all up for me. Posters on here bickering and arguing over the rights and wrongs of it all but the reality is that it is shit for everyone. Just because different people have different lives, different experiences and so different priorities doesn't mean they are selfish or idiots. The whole shit show is awful for so many people in so many ways. Everyone is just trying to get through it, the best they can.

Take care @starfish4 and @TheMerrickBoy

JacobReesMogadishu · 19/12/2020 15:52

I don’t think he can just put London and the south east into tier 4 .
If this new variant is there it’s already spread further north and I’m sure that will become apparent in the next few days.

He needs to take advantage of the schools being closed and do another lock down.

TheMerrickBoy · 19/12/2020 15:52

@DickAndSizzy exactly.

tinselearedcow · 19/12/2020 15:54

You are right DickAndSizzy. Flowers to everyone, it is just shit for us all.

Badbadbunny · 19/12/2020 15:55

@nosswith

BBC talking about test and trace again, one of the government's biggest failures.
Hardly suprising when some people gave false details and others won't answer their phone if they suspect it's the T&T people. Until the general public are going to actually comply, T&T is never going to work.
midscram · 19/12/2020 15:55

@DickAndSizzy You are right.

SophieB100 · 19/12/2020 15:56

Sturgeon holding a press conference at 5.25 today, for those of you North of the border!
