How can any government win? For every person who says cancel Christmas mixing another one wants to mix & then you will find another one who doesn't even believe in Covid. Each person is sure their opinion is right & the government should do what they want. Imo most governments aim to do what's best for the country as a whole not me as an individual.

SophieB100 · 19/12/2020 14:52

@SophieB100 I’m actually pleased to hear that... sounds like the right thing to do. Please take care of yourselves and each other. X

Thank you. You take care too @Wrecktal

Discreetly putting this here....IMAGINE THE CLUSTERFUCK IF CORBYN HAD GOT IN

The man was a muppet but I'm struggling to see how it would have been worse?

I don't think he'd have lasted long as PM but, even if he had, he could at least: organise people, stick to a plan and speak in clear sentences.

His shadow cabinet was weak but not to the extent where Michael Gove is your most competent Minister and Matt Hancock is the voice of morality.

VaTeLaverLesMains · 19/12/2020 14:52

I'm in the middle of a chemo course and getting nervous about the state of the NHS post Xmas.

And no, I can't have the vaccine. And I can't really shield with DD doing GCSEs either.

I know it's tough shit and all that but...

For those saying 'fuck the rules' , do they not want their loved ones looked after if they get ill, with covid or non Covid illness eg appendicitis, heart attack, meningitis, asthma etc?

I genuinely don't get it .

only seven points- what are the others?

I'd start a thread of fuck ups he's made but I don't think 1000 posts is enough room.

DecemberDiana · 19/12/2020 14:54

Dont post your presents now. You'd possibly be quicker waiting for any lockdown to end.

HeyBaby2020 · 19/12/2020 14:54

@Rhine LOCKDOWNs don’t work

Nonamesavail · 19/12/2020 14:54

Too short notice for Xmas.

Silvergreen · 19/12/2020 14:54

I can’t see any changes happening to the Christmas arrangements. I think he’ll just advise people that just because you can doesn’t mean you should, vulnerable people should not mix outside their household, remind us of hands, face, space and announce a strict post Christmas lockdown around the 28th Dec.

There will be no travel bans, closing of the underground etc. At the very least key workers need to get to work over the Christmas period and Johnson has no appetite for these sorts of measures.

January is going to be beyond shit.

VaTeLaverLesMains · 19/12/2020 14:55

I have worked in the NHS so maybe I realise more than some that anything can happen to anyone at any time.

Some people have a serious illness and literally say 'I never thought it would happen to me..' maybe that's the difference Confused

Lurkingforawhile · 19/12/2020 14:55

Just read on twitter that he can't change the law for Xmas as parliament are in recess, so may just be advice.

RhubarbTea · 19/12/2020 14:55

@snowballer

So Boris Bingo for the press conference. High likelihood of the following:

"Alas..."
"Folks"
"...with a heavy heart..."
"none of this is our fault and no one could have foreseen this, please like us, please"

Perhaps not the last, but it's certainly the one that will be thought but unsaid.

Yes all these. If he says 'Guys...' or say he knows just how frustrated everyone must be feeling, take one drink. Drink every time he pounds the podium with his big baby manchild fist. If he mentions 'fortitude', have two drinks. Shitty metaphor involving horses hooves in the distance etc etc, three drinks.
cardibach · 19/12/2020 14:55

Well, Level 4 in Wales looks like this, so something similar, imagine: gov.wales/alert-level-4-guide
It’s basically lockdown 1 but with schools and click and collect.

RedToothBrush · 19/12/2020 14:55

OFGS.

THE BBC HAVE SAID IT. IT WAS ON BBC NEWS.

ONE OF CAROLINE WHEELERS COLLEAGUES HAS SAID ITS LEGIT AND SHE HAS LOCKED HERSELF OUT OF HER TWITTER ACCOUNT

All of you saying 'fake news' are about 30 mins behind the rest of the world.

You win as a government by setting clear direction, having clear messaging and not u-turning at the last minute on every issue. It was clear as day to most people some time ago that Christmas was not going to be normal and it was madness to suggest people could freely mix for five days. You win by not over promising, and by taking tough decisions in a timely fashion, even when you know it'll make some people unhappy. You win by not making every decision according to whether people will vote for you again. Strong leadership is non-existent in this shower of incompetency.

He can get them back in if needs be.
Wrecktal · 19/12/2020 14:56

@VaTeLaverLesMains it’s precisely for people like yourself that I will completely adhere to the rules- and also for my mum who has just had cancer surgery. She needs to access the NHS - and her nearest hospital is at a critical level.

squiddybear · 19/12/2020 14:57

@HeyBaby2020 but the lockdown did work. When it was done properly and everything stopped cases dropped, deaths dropped. How can you say it didn't work!

SophieB100 · 19/12/2020 14:57

From the Guardian:
Tier 4' lockdown measures expected in SE England
Molly Blackall
Boris Johnson is expected to introduce tier 4 restrictions for London and the south-east of England in his press conference this afternoon, with the planned relaxation of regulations over Christmas scaled back for the rest of the country, writes Molly Blackall.

Tier 4 restrictions may spell an end to Christmas plans, with those living under the new top tier thought to be prevented from meeting other households over the holiday.

There are also suggestions that just two households will now be able to meet in the rest of England, rather than the planned three.

The prime minister will be joined by the chief medical officer for England, Chris Whitty, and the UK’s chief scientific adviser, Patrick Vallance, for a press conference at 4pm on Saturday, following an emergency meeting with cabinet ministers at 1pm.

It comes as cases of coronavirus surge, and concerns grow over a new strain of coronavirus which is spreading rapidly across the south-east of England.

I was thinking earlier that at least with how much they've messed up people aren't saying at least it's not Corbyn, but here we are. Feels quite nostalgic really.

Frostythesnowwoman · 19/12/2020 14:57

@RedToothBrush it was almost funny watching it play out twice Grin

But yes - Tier 4 is on BBC news now, not much detail so far though

nosswith · 19/12/2020 14:57

@midscram if we had been led by almost any other Conservative there would have been fewer deaths. Michael Gove or Jeremy Hunt would have acted far quicker both in March and late September.

I would have non-essential shops closed after December 24th, hotels shut other than for key workers and quarantine, work from home being obligatory unless it can be proven you cannot (not because your boss in an office does not like you wfh), universities all online next term except for teaching and medical students, and quarantine been in a hotel not at home where it largely does not happen. I'd also have a curfew where travel can only be for key workers, so all shops would have to shut early.

Wrecktal · 19/12/2020 14:58

@snowballer there is no clear direction because the virus is unpredictable, and mutating.

Loopyloui · 19/12/2020 14:58
