Very confused of rules! Just been put in tier 3 but can we go to a pre-booked event (Father Christmas) in tier 2 which is all socially distanced and outside on Saturday? Help!

We have the same predicament, event booked in tier 2 and we’ve just gone into tier 3.

movingonup20 · 17/12/2020 18:23

Officially no, you are meant to live by your tier rules even if passing through other tiers. In reality nobody will check

The rules state if you travel, you have to fillow your home tier. So you need to work out if the event. Can happen in tier 3. Lots of events are happening in T3.

wellingtonshat · 17/12/2020 18:26

@movingonup20 thanks but I can't see anything in tier 3 rules that say you can't go to a socially distanced event like the zoo etc as long as it's outside?

OP posts:
RedRiverShore · 17/12/2020 18:28

I would go, loads of people will be crossing tiers for this sort of thing and going to shops and cafes, it's the week before Christmas.

MassiveSalad · 17/12/2020 18:31

Just GO.

Mousehole10 · 17/12/2020 18:31

No, you’re not supposed to travel outside your area if your in tier 3.

wellingtonshat · 17/12/2020 18:35

Thanks all, going to go.

The irony is the local shop and sons nursery is in tier 2!

OP posts:
MyCatShopsAtAldi · 17/12/2020 18:38

We have the same dilemma. Ours has said that you can’t attend if you live in tier 3. Despite the fact that we’re only 10 miles away, if that, so it’s still our local area but over a county boundary.

Whether anyone will be checking is another matter. But I can’t face the thought of being turned away and disappointing DC.

Dotinthecity · 17/12/2020 18:40

I’d go!

Ginogineli · 17/12/2020 19:03

there are no legal rules on travel

you can go anywhere inc abroad

noone will check. Besides rules apply to indoor only

IgnoranceIsStrength · 17/12/2020 19:08

We are tier 3 and some tier 2 areas nearby have actually turned people away or refunded bookings if they have traveled from tier 3. So is worth checking with the event

MrJinxyCat · 17/12/2020 19:28

We’ve made decision to cancel, venue were happy for us to go. Ours was not entirely outdoors.
There’ll be plenty of other years to enjoy. Kids will be disappointed but feels like the right decision.

myhobbyisouting · 17/12/2020 19:33

"The irony is the local shop and sons nursery is in tier 2"

That's not ironic.

Shops and nurseries are open in all tiers

Covidnomore · 17/12/2020 19:38

I think you need to ask yourself why the government have advised against travelling outwith your local area.

I am sure many are thinking the same as you. Let's just hope the vaccine gets us herd immunity as its never going to end alternatively.

AcornAutumn · 17/12/2020 19:41

We’re in tier 3 and outdoor events are still running, it’s fine.

wellingtonshat · 17/12/2020 19:43

@myhobbyisouting I'm well aware! So perfectly fine to go to tier 2 for those reasons but not for any form of enjoyment?

@Covidnomore hmm I'm slowly losing faith in anything the Goverment says/advises.

OP posts:
Covidnomore · 17/12/2020 19:45

wellington so take personal responsibility then?

wellingtonshat · 17/12/2020 19:51

@Covidnomore good advice, will do. Thanks

OP posts:
EmmaGellerGreen · 17/12/2020 19:56

@covinomore we’re going into tier 3. All the surrounding villages and towns in a different county are still in 2 but most have higher infection rates than us but people need to come here to shop. It’s often more nuanced than stay in your tier.

RedRiverShore · 17/12/2020 20:11

I'm in a tier 2 area, more by luck than judgement I'll add, nearby villages are going into tier 3, I imagine they will still use our shopping centre though or they will have to travel 10 miles to the shops instead of 2

myhobbyisouting · 17/12/2020 20:36

"So perfectly fine to go to tier 2 for those reasons but not for any form of enjoyment?"

Well I suppose the answer to this would be that those in tier 3 should be limiting their visits and contacts and chances of spreading the virus. If it's something that needs to happen, like work or childcare then you go as safely as possible. If you're going to tier 2 for a pub lunch then it mightn't be seen as necessary.

But you're going so it is what it is. It's not "irony" though

So going to the pub in tier 2 would be

Hophop26 · 17/12/2020 21:16

Those saying no one will check are a bit naive, lots of organised events have been checking their bookings and automatically cancelling those from tier 3 addresses, it’s definitely a risk that could be checked and turned away. We went to an event in tier 2 travelling form within tier 2 and saw tier 3 people’s tickets being cancelled

RedRiverShore · 17/12/2020 21:24

Tier 3 places are also cancelling people from tier 2, these tiers are more trouble than they are worth, an England lockdown with all retail open would have been better, a lot less bother and less divisive
