To feel no optimism whatsoever

The vaccine is going to take years to roll out at the current pace. I don’t see the point in celebrating NYE with my other half because 2021 is just going to be more of the same. I know this post is very negative but I’m just feeling like crap right now tbh. I can’t see any end in sight.

Its ok to be fed up. Its ok not to feel positive. I've no time for the relentlessly upbeat, virtue signalling their martyrdom. This is a really, really difficult time. And disproportionately so for some. Some people are facing a lifetime of financial and job insecurity. Long after the vaccines rolled out, their lives will still be difficult.
⬆️⬆️⬆️ this ⬆️⬆️⬆️ with Christmassy bloody bells on.

@Nikhedonia

No one really said it was likely to get any better this year,

They said we needed to lockdown for three weeks. They said a few weeks more. Later they said no winter lockdown.

We have been consistently told "just do it for a few more weeks and then it's over with"

They've never said 3 weeks and it's over with. The initial lockdown was to be REVIEWED after three weeks, which is very different to it being over.

Anyone who understands how pandemics/vaccination research trials work should have been able to see well in advance that at least the whole of 2020 could be written off, and I suspect a large portion if not all of 2021, too.

This is what I’m dreading. I can probably make it to February but beyond that I’m done.

THANK YOU!

We're not 'all in this together'. Some - many - people are lonely and depressed, contemplating the ruination of careers and businsses lovingly built up over years.

Others are 'enjoying the slower pace of life', 'reflecting on what really matters', while WFH so very 'productively' in between preparing nutrious organic meals for little Tobias and Ella.

And absolutely it's OK to feel shit, because this IS shit. Enforced 'positivity' only makes things worse, as if things weren't already bad enough.

Loads of people did. Take a look at any coronavirus thread where new restrictions are introduced, there's always a "we only have to do this for a short period and it'll be over" blah blah blah.

Interesting to read BJ’s statement verbatim from 23 March

Madhairday · 17/12/2020 18:37

Thanks, @TheCountessofFitzdotterel. I give up, I really do...

WT56 · 17/12/2020 18:40

Doc who did my flu jab the other day said it will be Autumn at earliest and possibly another year before they complete the essential vaccines and get the immunity needed and that’s if all runs smoothly. Clearly some will get it sooner than others though so hopefully there will be an opening up of things before then. I personally think we will see another lockdown in Jan/Feb and then things will start to look a bit brighter by May onwards.

And I can assure you that we will keep these restrictions under constant review. We will look again in three weeks, and relax them if the evidence shows we are able to

Do you mean this? It doesn't exactly say it will all be over in three weeks.

Loopyloui · 17/12/2020 19:16

@peasoup8

Personally I think history will judge this episode as one of the biggest overreactions ever. We’ve destroyed so much for a virus that kills about 0.1% of the population.
This !!! I am at the edge of a cliff and wanna jump I can't take much more and now NI going into lockdown it will never fucking end
Nikhedonia · 17/12/2020 19:21

I'm not saying that the Government said three weeks. I'm saying that they said three weeks and everyone said "oh just put up with it for three weeks, it's only three weeks" now the narrative is "oh there's a vaccine, put up with it for a little bit longer".

It's never bloody ending.

umpteennamechanges · 17/12/2020 19:26

@MadameBlobby

I am getting increasingly bitter that so much has been demanded of us. It's been a massive overreaction and one that our children will pay for for the rest of their lives.

Same. The governments seem to have forgotten that they don’t actually own us and that they are elected to do our bidding, not the other way round.

Poll after poll has shown that a majority are in favour of strict COVID policies and actually quite often stricter than the Govt has put in place.

For example something like 52% in favour of cancelling Christmas bubbles (vs. 36% not to cancel and the rest 'don't know')

Oliversmumsarmy · 17/12/2020 19:28

I wonder how many deaths these lockdowns have been responsible for.

No idea why the Welsh government are going for harsher and harsher lockdowns and coming out with more and more infections

Surely the fact Wales went into a harsh lockdown and came out with worse figures than anywhere else in the uk and then England went into a lesser lockdown and came out with more infections should yell someone that lockdowns don’t work.

I'm dreading this too. If its not getting back to normal in April then I can't carry on like this any longer.
Crumpetycrump · 17/12/2020 19:51

I’ve just booked theatre tickets for next week as we are moving from tier 3 to tier 2 - that’s cheered me up!

FieldsAndSun · 17/12/2020 20:38

@nancy75

I was feeling like this yesterday but I think we need to cling on to the fact there is a vaccine. When you think about it getting a vaccine this fast is a bloody miracle, at least we have some hope of things getting better - we could have been in a position where the vaccines had failed or were going to take another 5 years. I know it’s small consolation but it’s all that’s getting me through it at the moment - look for whatever positives there are & keep thinking about that Flowers
I really agree with this.
peasoup8 · 18/12/2020 07:04

There’s talk of a tier 4 now - from the Metro but it quotes The Times:

metro.co.uk/2020/12/18/coronavirus-uk-millions-could-live-under-tier-4-after-christmas-13770823/

When will it end?!?!

🤣

Nerdygirl · 18/12/2020 08:48

I feel the same , there feels like little light at the end of the tunnel mainly because I am fed up with the mismanagement, lack of context with any of the data and lack of logic with so many things.

At a basic level you test more you will get more and this is what we are seeing currently . Showing percentages of positives would be a better way to understand the trend and prevalence in the country

In terms of the pcr testing as well there are concerns and inaccuracies coming from WHO

www.who.int/news/item/14-12-2020-who-information-notice-for-ivd-users

Is there any wonder we lose faith and have no optimism for getting out of this awful crisis

thespacetimecontinuum · 18/12/2020 10:03

We are just biding time until the Oxford vaccine comes and then the programme can really ramp up and we can all be vaccinated sooner. Just hoping the latest mutation does not affect the vaccines. Keep head down and carry on. It is all we can do.

Dowser · 18/12/2020 11:54

@Nerdygirl
I should be sunning myself in Tenerife right now but thanks to a cock up with the tests we couldn’t go
First world problem I know but it would’ve given my mental health a boost

GoldenOmber · 18/12/2020 12:03

We are all so pleased for you. Thank you for taking time out of you life to come onto this thread of people who are struggling to give this valuable insight.

Why would you think that people who are optimistic about the future aren’t struggling now?

I’m finding this an absolutely miserable existence with all the joy of a muck heap right now, but I am fairly positive about the outlook from spring and don’t see the usefulness in a lot of “ooooh no you’re right OP it’s never going to get better” echo chamber of gloom. How is that helping? Who is that helping?

Nerdygirl · 18/12/2020 12:49

What was the cock up with the tests @Dowser
