Friday night I suddenly got very very shivery and achey and just felt terrible so went to bed.

Woke at 1.30 with diarrhoea, same every couple of hours then was sick too. Slept on and off all day Saturday, felt shivery and hot but the thermometer said my temp was 36.2. Also had a terrible terrible headache and felt myself rambling as if I was delirious - probably dehydrated. My lips were so dry they were bleeding over the pillowcase.

Saturday night was sick again as a result of brushing my teeth. Another restless hot night. Sunday was exactly the same as Saturday. Yesterday was the same in the morning but better in the afternoon but so very exhausted. I managed a shower but it used all my energy.

Had a lie down yesterday evening and couldn't get to sleep because I couldn't stop coughing and wheezing. (I do have asthma and my ventolin took the wheeze away). DH suggested testing so we ordered me a test.

The cough never returned after that half hour so I started wishing I hadn't wasted a test. But today I still feel so wiped and can't do a thing. Doing anything out of my chair is a huge struggle.

It's probably just a sickness bug but that's something I get so rarely I can't remember how long it takes to get over them - I've only had 1 in the last 20 years and that was 7 years ago, and the actual sickness/diarrhoea part was really only for 8 hours and only a few times, spaced out.

I know I don't really have the symptoms but there seem to be so many variations on it now...

I mean with this thing the upset stomach part didn't last long and didn't seem to be the main feature of it.

I think ordering a test was a very sensible thing to do.

You have a virus of some kind and you need to know if it's Coronavirus. You had a cough, even if only for a short while so you qualify.

You and your DH should isolate until you get your results.

AstridAv · 15/12/2020 19:02

It could be. I have covid and have dry lips. I never got a temp until today which is day 6. And feeling very tired from day 1. Testing was a good idea.
Lots of people have gastro issues too. Its such a weird virus. Fingers crossed its negative for you

Glitterblue · 15/12/2020 19:23

Thank you for your replies. Whatever I have is very unpleasant and like a whole mix of different things. I've just realised as well that I have a strange taste in my mouth, I lost my sense of smell due to an allergic reaction a couple of weeks ago and it's still not back but I have a very odd sort of metallic taste at the back of my throat/nose, it's hard to describe. Almost like the very back of my tongue and back of the roof of my mouth

We are self isolating till the results are back - but I'm worried we'll get into trouble from the school because we had a letter last week about DD's attendance - she's already had to self isolate once while DH waited for a test result, which thankfully turned out to be negative, and she's also got a weak immune system because she was born very prematurely so she does get ill a fair bit this time of year. But what can you do if you have to self isolate?!

Glitterblue · 15/12/2020 19:24

@AstridAv I hope you get over it really soon and it's not too awful for you.

I had a metallic taste at the back of my mouth with Covid. Don't worry about school attendance you are doing the right thing.

SummerHouse · 15/12/2020 19:27

Is the taste like chlorine? I have heard it described as metallic / chlorine very often.

CarinaMarina · 15/12/2020 19:29

I had it myself a few weeks ago, I'd say it is very likely you'll test positive - it all sounds horribly familiar I'm afraid.

Keep fluids going in, alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen if you can and try, try to choke down a morsel of dry toast (I know it's awful, I was crying at the thought of eating) - it makes the paracetamol so much more effective. That's what the ambulance techs told me when they visited!

Cool flannel and a fan helped with my temperature, mine showed 36 or so for the first few days but then shot up on day 6.

Try and ride it out, I wish you very much better swiftly. It's no fun. Flowers

WhoseThatGirl · 15/12/2020 19:29

Sounds like it could easily be covid.

Riv12345 · 15/12/2020 22:56

Hi op sorry you're feeling like this.

My friend has it at the moment and she has been sick too.
She has has 2 tests and they both positive. Done a home test ( nhs worker)
Then had another test via drive thru.
She has had it a few days but is feeling better. Let us know what your result is.

Take care and drink lots 💐

Glitterblue · 15/12/2020 23:00

I've just realised my test is probably going to be too late by the time it arrives. Just had an email saying the estimated time of delivery is 8pm tomorrow. Symptoms started around 10pm on Friday and aren't you supposed to test by day 5? It didn't even occur to me to think about a test until I started with that cough last night.

I've also got aching right up the back of my legs when I stand up, almost as if all the muscles are pulled right up the backs of both legs and I have absolutely zero energy, it's ridiculous how little I can do without feeling like I need to sit. I just went to flap the duvet to make the bed comfy and that made my heart totally race and I came over all shaky. Whatever this is, it isn't nice at all.

@Riv12345 thank you - I don't feel like I can get enough to drink at the moment and I'm so tired yet dreading going to bed because the last 4 nights have been so awful.

I'm glad your friend is improving and hope she continues to do so. I'll let you know the result, if it's not too late for the test. I'll probably try it anyway, whenever it arrives.

I had very similar symptoms to yourself my test came back positive.I’m fine now.take care it’s not nice but you will feel better soon Flowers

happystone · 15/12/2020 23:07

I took my test after 4 days still said positive

Porcupineinwaiting · 15/12/2020 23:10

Sounds a lot like COVID I'm afraid. "Very unpleasant and a whole mix of things" is pretty much spot on. Drink plenty and rest.

Ormally · 15/12/2020 23:22

It does sound like it may be - I had similar on a few counts. Headache and sickness was the beginning but then got very tight chest and something like heartburn when lying down, but no cough. You'll feel a fair bit weaker after sickness and not eating anyway.

MissSmiley · 15/12/2020 23:40

We all had it in October, I was sick on day 2 but only once and I'm hardly ever sick, didn't lose sense of smell until a week later

My DS18 tested positive a week after very mild symptoms when he lost his sense of smell
DD10 tested on day 9 after a v mild dry cold/cough

Glitterblue · 16/12/2020 13:37

My test has just arrived. I'm nervous about doing it.... especially the bit where you have to rub it over your tonsils for 10 seconds 😬 That sounds a long time to someone who's currently gagging and getting the dry boak very easily!!

OP posts:
Riv12345 · 16/12/2020 13:40

Hi op just do it right at the back of your throat not necessarily on the tonsils
Then up both nostrils till it start feeling uncomfortable and swirl it round for 10 times

Glitterblue · 16/12/2020 14:18

@Riv12345 thank you for the advice - haven't braved it yet but will get it over with soon!

OP posts:
garlictwist · 16/12/2020 15:43

I didn't realise sickness was a symptom of covid. I am emetephobic so this app a my worst nightmare. Really don't want to get it now.

Glitterblue · 16/12/2020 16:15

@garlictwist me neither, I only started wondering when the cough started and I've learned a lot about the possible symptoms from this thread! I'm also emetophobic, I think I felt so awful for so long on Friday night because I was not letting myself be sick because I was so terrified of it. Then I found it was the feeling of it that was SO much worse than the actual BEING, and I felt loads better once I'd actually let myself.

OP posts:
garlictwist · 17/12/2020 04:49

@Glitterblue The fear of it happening is definitely the worst part! How are you feeling now? Did you get your result?

wetasstenalady · 17/12/2020 04:55

I didn't have sickness with it It seems to be very unique to each person
ginandvomit · 17/12/2020 06:52

So sorry @Glitterblue I hope you are feeling better very soon.
