I know London is entering tier 3...

...but do we know which other areas will be entering tier 3 on Wednesday? Or will they be announcing it tomorrow?

piglet81 · 14/12/2020 21:27

BBC says London, parts of Essex and most of Herts.

Luckyrabbitfoot · 14/12/2020 22:07

Thank you. Is that all of them? I had heard that other areas might be tier 3.

onedayinthefuture · 14/12/2020 22:12

It's not most of Herts, just Broxbourne borough at the moment.

MissDollyMix · 14/12/2020 22:14

It seems very nuanced. ‘Parts of Hertfordshire’ I don’t remember that level of being offered to Lancashire. Just the whole county banged into tier 3 despite very low levels in some areas.

RedRiverShore · 14/12/2020 22:19

Aren't they still reviewing everywhere on Wednesday because a few places may come down from 3 to 2. Also some parts of Bedfordshire were mentioned as being high (Luton) and MK, though MK doesn't look that high

BunsyGirl · 14/12/2020 22:23

It’s basically the Southern part of Hertfordshire that borders London.

Pre lockdown 2, some areas were divided up including in the North. Bolsover in Derbyshire was in tier 1 despite being surrounded by tier 2 and tier 3 areas.

Quite Miss, we had the same in Warwickshire. Can't see us coming out of it either as the CC asked that it be done at Upper tier LA level, not district Xmas Hmm

The rest of the country is still being reviewed on Wednesday, according to the PM prog earlier.

Emptyspacex · 14/12/2020 22:59

What are the chances of Bristol/North Somerset coming down to tier 2? Does anyone know?

I’m in MK, that’s why I was wondering! Heard some chatter about it potentially being a tier 3 area

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 14/12/2020 23:51

I’m wondering about Northants also.

ruby4ever · 15/12/2020 00:09

So if they go in tier 3. Can they still form a bubble over Xmas? Honestly this is all too confusing.

PickAChew · 15/12/2020 00:12

Christmas bubbles are separate from tiers.

@onedayinthefuture

It’s south Hertfordshire; Broxbourne, Hertsmere, Watford and the Three Rivers. That’s quite a number of people.

BungleandGeorge · 15/12/2020 00:31

I thought we had to have tiers by whole county now because people couldn’t get to grips with the smaller areas?

RedRiverShore · 15/12/2020 05:09

@CoffeeCreamandSugar

I'm Northants and strangely I hadn't heard us mentioned though my part went down quite low and has now gone up quite a bit, I suspect because of the recent Whitworths outbreak. Northampton is more often higher than not and is only slightly lower than MK. I also heard the chatter about MK (mentioned above) DH does his running there so he pays particular attention as he has stuff booked in.

I definitely heard some chatter, as an aside I thought it was in Buckinghamshire, well it is isn't it, it is often mentioned as a standalone or clumped in with Beds for Covid. In fact in the Government tiers list it says Beds and MK together with Bucks further down the list.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/12/2020 06:51

I'm in Derbyshire and I believe we're trying to make a case to go down to tier 2, along with Nottingham and Manchester. I don't know if any areas will move down so close to Christmas mixing though, might be too risky.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 15/12/2020 07:09

BBC said yesterday that London/Essex/Hearts have been announced early and any other changes will be announced on the 16th. Then it's going to a weekly review, so next one is the 23rd.

MK cases are up about 33% compared to two weeks ago and there's been an increase in deaths across Bucks. Bedfordshire as a whole is up about 40% and I saw that the cases in Bedford have doubled. MK council are certainly expecting us to go to Tier 3 and I'd be surprised if the whole area doesn't get put up.

Nousernameforme · 15/12/2020 07:40

@Emptyspacex fuck knows. I've been looking for clues, there was an article 5 days ago by the mayor of Bristol he thinks it's unlikely. Our numbers are down but they are going back up again. It's all to do with hospital space which our area doesn't have much of.
Fingers crossed though.

RedToothBrush · 15/12/2020 08:01

Rumours ive heard are Leeds, Manchester (at least part of) and Nottingham maybe moving to t2. BUT i think they could be delayed til post Christmas yet. I am crossing fingers but i wouldn't get hopes up too much.

My suspicion is that anywhere that was going to go into T3 pre-Christmas has done. But i could be wrong on this.

The worry is a big party on Friday means any infections from that are unlikely to be apparent until the Christmas relaxation on 23rd. When people are visiting older relatives.

Looking at the map Northamptonshire would perhaps be my only other immediate possible candidate for T3. There are plenty of places i suspect will end up T3 the week after Christmas though. We shall see.

I think people would be very wise to keep an eye, not on the number of cases in their area but how quickly they are increasing. Any increase over 30% in the last 7 days should make you consider being more cautious especially over Christmas. Anywhere with this kind of rate increase is somewhere to watch even if case numbers are currently low, as the pattern is this rapidly increases. (remember the figures released today reflect last week too).

It may be better to act as if its T3 if you are somewhere it looks troubling even if its T2 if you can in the run up to Christmas. And to be over cautious over Christmas.

I've also seen confusing indications about Leeds and Manchester going into tier 2, and there's been a good reduction in the numbers of infections, which would support this.

However, if we move down to tier 2 this week, its very likely that people will get together in reopened restaurants (one I follow on FB is already taking bookings) this weekend and then it will be more or less a free for all over Christmas, so we'll be back where started, or worse than, pre lockdown 2, going into the new year.

So unfortunately, I think it would be prudent to remain in T3 until 2nd January at least and review around new year, with no more changes until around 2 /4 January at least.

Jumbojem · 15/12/2020 08:59

I'm in North Somerset and we are hoping to be decoupled from Bristol and go down to tier 2. That said I don't think Bristol really warrants tier 3 either anymore. But I'm not overly hopeful!

There is prudent and there is political.

The government is tending to lean towards the latter.

We shal see. Last week I'm have said that they would have definitely dropped a tier. This week I think I'm less confident because of how things are looking nationally ahead of Christmas.

Nousernameforme · 15/12/2020 09:33

@jumbojem I don't think Bristol warrants a tier 3 either but I don't see how we can be considered separate when we use Bristol hospitals.
I think this pandemic has shown how important it is for areas to have their own health care provision even if they just look at it from a financial stand point and being able to reopen more of the country. Doubt it will happen though

clareykb · 15/12/2020 09:34

I live in the most improved council area in the country, near Newcastle, currently at 90 per 10000, I hope we are going down but I dont think we will be!
