Do D of E hang out on threads?

Is it just me... or does anyone else notice a disproportionate number of posters trotting out the party line re schools, especially at times of crisis in schools.

This post has even be removed from the d of e Facebook page.

It’s like they want to try and make their narrative seem like the norm and suppress any other views.

Yes and I am convinced there are paid posters on here too. There are a few, that no matter what, have politician level of denial. On here day and night, every day. I don’t see a busy parent even if SAHM or WFH having time to do that. They appear terrified that the truth will get out about transmission in schools.

DfE ritually useless I agree @wondersun

Weirdly I was thinking about him this morning 😂😂 Nice to see a couple of real people 🙏🥰

I thought you meant Duke of Edinburgh too!

Hapixmas · 13/12/2020 10:33

But that could be because I'm part of a D of E team with guiding ! So used to chatting about the Duke of Edinburgh expedition!

Scumble · 13/12/2020 10:34

Didn't the DfE do an 'official' post via MNHQ on one of the threads?

noblegiraffe · 13/12/2020 11:03

Yup, the DfE were worried enough to get MNHQ to post 'officially' on their behalf presumably because they thought it would give the bullshit they spout more authority than the usual usernames.

Fortunately, MNetters are generally not as gullible as the government would hope.

Nellee · 13/12/2020 11:16

Yes they do. I am sure of that because the D of E actually dared to get mumsnet HQ to post a message to us all.

It was on one of the threads a couple of weeks ago- telling us that schools were safe and to stop saying otherwise.

noblegiraffe · 13/12/2020 11:20

Rather than being on threads about schools, I wish they had to actually be in schools in the same conditions that they are expecting teachers to work in.

It might focus their minds a bit.

Nellee · 13/12/2020 11:22

Perhaps they could use their workforce to help make schools safer rather than trawling the internet and attempting to prevent people from discussing the truth of the situation.

WankPuffins · 13/12/2020 11:24

How do I get a job trolling on forums?

Asking for a friend.

noblegiraffe · 13/12/2020 11:26

Dominic Cummings was a big fan of it, you could ask him.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 13/12/2020 11:27

Lots of government departments, newspapers and businesses post unofficial on mumsnet. Been like that for years.

If you want a subject picked up by the papers just start a thread that deliberately gets people fired up. Great way to get public debate going. Well known fact.

CallmeAngelina · 13/12/2020 11:29

Amusingly, MNHQ accidentally mislaid the DfE's request for a few days, meaning that by the time they got around to posting the propaganda, the thread was just about to reach 1000 posts and close.

Unless it’s about secondary schools being riddled with covid and then you can start as many 1000 post threads as you like and the press will still ignore it.

GrammarTeacher · 13/12/2020 11:32

Yes, what IS that about?

CallmeAngelina · 13/12/2020 11:41

Gosh, anyone would think there was an agenda to suppress information about risk of (and actual) spread in schools.

Appuskidu · 13/12/2020 11:43

Oh, yes-undoubtedly!

MrsMigginsMate · 13/12/2020 11:55

I think it's far more likely that someone who works for D of E also happens to be a mumsnetter in their spare time and wanted to defend their employer via an official statement. I know some of you love to think that the government is intimidated by a random group of parents on a very niche subforum of a parenting site, but in reality I very much doubt they give a shit. They have bigger fish to fry and mumsnet is a tiny drop in a big ocean.

I know I will be flamed for this, even though it's entirely logical because you all want to be heard, but as far as the government are concerned I think you're all just screaming into the void here. (Not saying you can't be heard in other ways, a good start is writing to your MP.)

GrammarTeacher · 13/12/2020 11:56

Unfortunately writing to the MPs in my area is totally pointless.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/12/2020 11:56

And me 🤣🤣
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/12/2020 11:57

Writing to your MP is just screaming into the void too. Tory MPs just reply with the stock government response. Four times now from my MP, even when I write with the official graphs and photos of schools. Gaslighting.

Iamnotthe1 · 13/12/2020 11:58

I missed the DfE post - what did it say?

@MrsMigginsMate
It isn't about the Government being intimidated. It's about using propoganda within social media and this particular Government have been heavily involved with that through facebook, twitter, etc. since the Brexit vote. It's about Mumsnet being used as a vehicle of manipulation, not about the Government being scared of the power of mums.

CallmeAngelina · 13/12/2020 11:59

Numerous (teacher) posters on these threads have written to their MPs. If they've received any replies at all, they've been bland, generic "cut & paste" affairs, which avoid answering the points raised.

MrsMigginsMate · 13/12/2020 12:00

Fair enough, your MP sucks. It doesn't change my point though. The D of E don't have loads of moles on Mumsnet, that's a conspiracy theory too far. Any employee can trot out the standard lines to any publication they come across. All it means is someone working for D of E is a mumsnetter in their spare time IMO.
