Mass testing for secondary school pupils in worst affected areas.

@Itisasecret

We were talking about this today. I actually think there will be large class action lawsuits against the government and the decision makers in the future. There should be too.

Not just from teachers, but from parents whose children end up seriously ill long term because they were lied to. It think this is going to be the next big scandal of the future.

How/why risk was covered up aided and abetted by the government and its advisors.

Along with the care home scandal too.
MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2020 19:43

@noblegiraffe

But I’m not seeing evidence of convincing people to change their views

They've been useless. But I'm not sure that they'd get the right press even if they were any good.

The Guardian must be receptive? Surely!
MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2020 19:44

Actually you said not. Not sure why

noblegiraffe · 11/12/2020 19:44

There was a poster on here who said that a group of them were working with a lawyer to put something together.

No. The Guardian have barely reported on schools. Their education section is full of stories about how hard it has been for uni students having to isolate.

And they've been just as bad for the stupid social distance mask-wearing photos as the rest.

It’s interesting that a fair few vocal posters claiming the complete opposite for months now and shouting down anyone with experience to the contrary, have stayed away from this thread (or only posted the once). I also wonder if the demands for teachers on here to apologise for claiming there were cases in school on the rise, will be publicly retracted? I’m not holding my breath.

I think it also has the potential to drag on too.

Say for example, god forbid, they find as a vascular disease. It caused fertility issues, long term heart damage, T1 diabetes, for example. I can’t see many adults of the future letting that one slide. Not when the government lied and said they were safe and have basically let it run riot through the youth population. Constantly telling them they will be fine.

That’s before you get in to all the teachers they’ve killed or left with long term illness. Before you even move on to vulnerable adults who have been killed because Covid was taken home to their vulnerable family.

It is certainly a huge scandal brewing. Particularly with potential unknown long term side effects in children.

ChloeDecker · 11/12/2020 19:59

There will be a public inquiry, you mark my words! Grin

Zandathepanda · 11/12/2020 20:08

Apparently 10% of men get erectile dysfunction which, I am presuming, is vascular.

Itisasecret · 11/12/2020 20:15

Yes, this is kind of my point. Children and parents have been told that kids are fine, no harm done. If we ignore the fact that teachers and their families are fair game as collateral damage.

I wonder, seriously, the long term implications of this being allowed to run riot in children, developing children. Especially those going through life changes such as puberty.

I honestly hope I’m wrong but I fear this is going to be a massive scandal. More so because it has been actively covered up by the government and scientists. People have been lied to.

Zandathepanda · 11/12/2020 20:15

Can’t find the 10% stat now! It was in an article on long covid.

Piggywaspushed · 11/12/2020 20:17

There was an interesting post somewhere on here from a person who obviously knew about picture editing who said masks and SD are shorthand for covid. So, regardless of whether it is accurate or representative, the pictures of wherever have to have these things.

Bit like early pictures of 'illness' always have someone lying on a sofa sneezing at a tissue.

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/12/2020 20:26

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

Whois teaching/providing remote learning for all these children opting to stay off school, yet on role?

I've got 4 off long term atm, I'm providing learning so they do roughly the right stuff, but I've just had one parent bring bsck loads of stuff for marking. Erm, no.

I think it depends. In our school all kids get every piece of work on google classroom. Mine has to do everything. So basically he is being marked and i am responsible for teaching all subjects to him.

It's bloody hard to be perfectly up to date in all y10 subjects at a very short notice. It has been 30 years that I learnt this stuff.....

And the only reason I could convince our school is because they actually are seeing that I am doing a good job. Got his report card today and he only slipped a bit in chemistry and biology. Everything else is top grade.

Piggywaspushed · 11/12/2020 21:18

For a measure of the government's appalling attitude to and support of schools and their communities, read this:

And yet, apparently, proper lobbying will change them? I am sorry, marsha, I don't want to appear to dig at you but I feel so disconsolate.

The only thing that will touch this populist government is parents kicking off.

I think they will but it will only be when they realise their children have long Covid issues. That will put the MN procrastinating and hand wringing about schools in a cold light. I really hope I’m wrong but as a parent first and foremost, I really don’t think I am.
TaxTheRatFarms · 11/12/2020 22:25

Itsasecret As a teacher and a parent of a child with long covid issues, should I offer myself as tribute? Grin

Seriously though. I’ve written to my MP and got the big standard “EverYtHiNgS FiNe!” answer, written to the MP of the constituency my work-school is in (who is front bench MP no less) and received no reply at all.

I am quite ready to go a bit Joan of Arc Sad

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/12/2020 22:32

Part of the problem that civilized, educated, liberal people think differently. Take @TaxTheRatFarms - she is writing to her MP, school, using formal channels to get some traction.
On the other side -either by design/propaganda or stupidity- they don't care about that. They shout down the streets, call the daily fail to cry the story to them and use every possible forum to induce tears at any cost.

Yes, you should! 😁 As a parent of a teen who has been quite poorly and lost loads of weight.

I am genuinely worried about long Covid in teens. Especially in those without the main symptoms. 🙁

Piggy I see that last week as a separate issue but maybe you’re right. Changing tack might not do much. Especially now. But even if it had started on another foot may have brought about same result.
WhyNotMe40 · 11/12/2020 22:44

@noblegiraffe

The only thing that will touch this populist government is parents kicking off.
I keep remembering some newspaper article that described Johnson as the type of "leader" who waits to see which way he crowd is going, before leaping in front and shouting "follow me!" This was at least a year ago, and has been proven correct in everything so far, and explains much of the fuck ups due to "waiting to see what the electorate wants" rather than doing what the electorate NEEDS from its elected government. To do, you know, govern. But the government has spent millions on convincing the electorate that schools are safe. Rather than actually making schools "safe". So it will be difficult to get the popular support with which to lead the government response. And that is the problem.

And on the issue of long Covid - as a school in the SW with relatively few cases compared to some - we still have 3 cases (that I know of) of long Covid in pupils, and 2 in staff...

I don't think the unions helped themselves over summer.

Mother of dragonite v good points, it's crazy we got to a point of being embarrassed to get tests! Ashamed because others needed it more. Crazy we still have such a narrow range of symptoms... We move so slowly!!
