NHS staff - have you been called for the vaccine?

I haven't yet - North Central London. But I can see from some threads on here that some NHS workers are booked in for this week.

I'm patient facing in the community (therapies) so certainly not at the front of the NHS queue but I do have covid +ve people on my caseload, and am doing pretty much all face to face since we're trying to keep to "business as usual".

I can't bloody wait to get the jab!

Only ECV frontline NHS staff being vaccinated at our trust. All staff here have been offered vaccinations for family members over 80. We can book them in on their behalf. We were very low on uptake today. Maybe tomorrow it will be busier.

gosh that's worrying. Are you also actively trying to find 80+ patients to vaccinate? I really hope none of the stuff goes to waste.
Char2015 · 08/12/2020 21:05

@Frazzled2207

Yes, we have been told that any interactions with patients 80+ should include discussions about the vaccine. To be honest, the number of patients aged 80+ either currently in hospital and those due in for outpatient appointments is very low. We have more doses than patients available to us at the moment.

Frazzled2207 · 08/12/2020 21:07

wow. Will you do what you can to get them used up before they expire?

We will probably prioritise department staff more at risk such as ICU, A&E, and those directly involved with covid patients. The chief executive also wanted to open it up to all staff groups as he believes our workplace is high risk for everyone. But apparently NHS England have advised against this as we need to be seen to vaccinating in order of priority even if it means some doses go to waste. I think there is a lot of politics going on. Their priority is still to get it to care homes ASAP, so they really don't want to be seen giving it to anyone else before them. It is silly holding back vaccinating more groups especially when further doses (millions) are expected in the next couple of weeks or so.

I'm not patient facing but one of my clinical colleagues was vaccinated at 8.30 this morning and I know of others booked in this week.

xxmass · 08/12/2020 21:24

No mention of any sign of vaccinations in my hospital.....

AppleBapple · 08/12/2020 21:25

I was booked in for today! Paediatric a&e nurse here. Unfortunately I came down with symptoms yesterday and have had to tested (negative thankfully). So rebooked for next week. In our trust all ward staff are considered frontline and have been booked in to hopefully all be vaccinated by Christmas.

mrsanflowerpot · 08/12/2020 21:27

DH hasn't yet and DS is ECV. Given up hope we will see DH home over Christmas now (Covid frontline so living in a hotel at the moment) Sad

mrsanflowerpot · 08/12/2020 21:28

Sorry for drip feed, his trust is in N London and we are in Herts. His hospital struggling at the moment with still increasing hospital admissions

Not yet and won’t be having it either. I’ve done my research. I’ve read the trial data (not social media claims and conspiracy theories before anyone asks) and I’ve decided it’s not for me at present. I’m not ruling it out in future though. Prepares to be flamed....

Frazzled2207 · 08/12/2020 21:32

pleased to hear that some of you are getting jabbed. Anyone on the healthcare frontline should be priority IMO IF the 80+s are unable to be recruited quickly enough.

Waitingpatientlyhonest · 08/12/2020 21:32

Practice Nurse in rural area. We haven't got a date yet although there's a rumour of 20th December to start for our patients. No mention of staff yet.

No flaming from me, I am all about bodily autonomy. I would never pressure anyone to have it!
Twistered · 08/12/2020 21:35

@bakebeans ..... What is it about the data that makes you day it's not for you?

Twistered · 08/12/2020 21:36

Genuinely interested and not flaming Flowers

PaddyF0dder · 08/12/2020 21:39

No. I’m an outpatient psychiatrist I’m low priority.

A friend (an ICU nurse) is getting it this week. Another friend (an A&E doctor) is also getting it this week. Seems reasonable in both cases.

Frazzled2207 · 08/12/2020 21:45

@bakebeans
Not being awkward but I am asking this to everyone who I come across who doesn't want the vaccine - what other solutions do you think there are to get out of the mess we're in? And if (IF) it's a case of relying on everyone else to get vaccinated then do you understand why those of us being vaccinated would see it as selfish? I strongly believe that we all need to do our bit - it's not just about protecting yourself it's about protecting those around you. I acknowledge however that some people might have genuine reasons for not wanting it. Breastfeeding and having/wanting a baby soon being two of them. So like @Twistered interested to know. And genuinely don't want to start an argument either.

DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 08/12/2020 21:46

As far as I know, NHS staff are not being prioritised yet. It's the over 80s and care home staff according to the news (I assume due to logistics in getting this particular vaccine into care homes, it's better to vaccinate those in close contact with them for now).
I suppose NHS and hopefully other key workers like teachers etc will be in the second priority group.

NHS staff are in the 2nd priority group and may be vaccinated if they can't find enough older people int he first instance. Other key workers are not listed anywhere unless they are CEV. The government has only organised priority groups for the 50+s and CEV. Everyone else is going to have to wait .
bakebeans · 08/12/2020 21:51

I haven’t seen enough long term evidence at present. The FDA and EMA are yet to approve it.
I am aware the it is an RNA type vaccine which builds up your immunity to fight off the virus. At present we do not know what the long term effects are so my personal choice is to wait at present. I wouldn’t deter anyone from having it though as that is their choice

Trumplosttheelection · 08/12/2020 21:53

We haven't got it yet, not a hub trust. The plan seems to be to do the over eighties and use up each days doses on staff.

bakebeans · 08/12/2020 22:03

Frazzled2207 It’s my choice and my body at the end of the day. No one else’s decision. I’ve read the data on the trial so far and the selection criteria and latest figures. The trial is still ongoing and therefore full publication and end results have not been finalised.
It’s an RNA based vaccine which will help the body to create an immune response to fight off the virus. They do sound very good and yet they are still in the early stages as they have been looking at cancers and the flu also but they are still in development in these areas.

As I’ve said I’ve not ruled it out in future but I’m in no rush at the present and I will not be pressurised into doing so.

timeforawine · 08/12/2020 22:06

The FDA have approved it
