Who’s getting the vaccine tomorrow?

If you’re getting the vaccine tomorrow do you know about it already?

My over-80 dad has an outpatient appointment at a fairly big hospital tomorrow. Will he get it, or would he have been told, or do I just have to be patient?

I'm not (I'm a long way down the priority list), but the church just round the corner from me is being turned into a full time Covid vaccination station from Monday of next week until April, so I imagine they have started contacting people
already.

iVampire · 07/12/2020 23:15

They have published which hospitals have vaccination clinics - so is there one at his hospital?

And everywhere seems to be saying ‘do not turn up unless you have been invited’

The hospital I attend has a clinic, and it has said today that it has done a complete trawl of all those with outpatients this week to invite all the over80s to be done whilst in the hospital

This is a brand new system, and people might be missed. He should definitely ask as soon as he arrives what arrangements there are (so if he should have been invited but wasn’t, there’s a chance it can be put straight)

I can only find trusts, rather than hospitals (I think) and only for England, but he’s in Scotland.

I’ve told him to ask (and for my mum who’ll be waiting for him in the car park...) but I’m not sure he will - think he mightn’t want to look pushy. 🙄

Have I missed the news where it’s been approved?

ineedaholidaynow · 08/12/2020 01:18

@HerRoyalNotness how have you missed that!

are you being serious ??
HerRoyalNotness · 08/12/2020 01:34

Well I know they have it but I haven’t seen where it’s actually been approved for use. (Not in U.K., but do skim the news there)

i would have thought it would have been very big news everywhere, being the first. last wednesday, some good news at last.
most of us will have to wait a while to get it. but here's an answer to the OP,

We’re not the first - Russia started vaccinating last week.

My 95 year old uncle, who lives alone at home, hasn’t been contacted yet.

JillyCareful · 08/12/2020 06:55

It’s been very big news indeed!

The first to be vaccinated will be the vaccinators themselves, so I don’t think any 80 or 90 year olds will be getting it tomorrow.

Literally the most useful the church has ever been!
iVampire · 08/12/2020 07:12

The exact hospitals might be named in local news

As it’s a UK programme, I had thought the differences between home nations would be fought or non-existent. NS has said all major acute hospitals and islands will be getting it, but I’m really not sure what other announcements have been made in other regions and home nations.

I think your DDad will just have to steel himself to ask on arrival

Where in the world are you?

If it's the UK, in the words of JM. you can not be serious Grin

As I understand you people are being invited rather than it being done as part of routine appointments but of course there's no reason not to ask

They've started already, the first person was done on the news

The first over 90s have already been done in Coventry, I listened to it live on the radio and I'm sure there were people in other parts of the country talking yesterday (Mon) about being done today (Tues), it's not only healthcare workers.
Matilda03 · 08/12/2020 07:32

They're happening today at our local hospital. Quite a few on the local Facebook group have said they've booked - mainly in their late 80s/early 90s. It's very exciting.

JillyCareful · 08/12/2020 07:34

Yes I’ve just been watching the first 80 year old get it live on telly. I may have been misinformed, wouldn’t be the first time!

The daily mail article linked to above just said “ among the first” which doesn’t really tell us whether that’s today, next week, or next month.

SquirmOfEels · 08/12/2020 07:37

The nearby teaching hospital has a vaccination centre, and there was a piece on the local news praising the admin staff for checking everyone coming to the hospital for outpatients in the next few days and inviting all the over 80s to get their first shot whilst they are in the hospital anyhow.

So you're wrong for round here at least (London)

In the news this morning the first ones have already been done. A 90 something lady in NI was first.

BecomeStronger · 08/12/2020 07:41

Oh, not sure where I got NI from, it was at University Hospital Coventry.

JillyCareful · 08/12/2020 07:44

She was originally from enniskillen, but the vaccination took place in Coventry.

Yes I’ve already admitted that I was misinformed. And maybe there is a difference regionally.

Parker231 · 08/12/2020 07:44

It will take until spring for all the high risk, ie over 80’s to have received their two vaccinations.

Parker - that was the point of the thread though was it

Well done though for bringing some gloom 🙄🙄

Are yo saying that as some kind of negative?

We know and that tbh no one could expect otherwise, I was quite surprised at how many over 80s there are, of course the logistics of getting them allvacinnated twice is going to take time
