What do you think will happen at the review on the 16th?

Lots of articles in the papers saying London (where I live) will go to tier 3.

I’m really hoping they are wrong.

@Srslydontgiveacrap I was thinking (hoping) the same. Would there be much point putting any places up to tier 3 just before the Christmas ease?
Moving down a tier though, absolutely.

bristol here and hoping to go from 3 to 2. down from 470cases to 170 in 2 weeks time so hope that' a good sign...

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/12/2020 14:19

Derbyshire and I'm hoping we go into tier 2.

FindHungrySamurai · 08/12/2020 14:55

The Bristol numbers are looking very reassuring. Just by eye, a lot of those student-led spikes seem to have dissipated almost as quickly as they appeared.

shinynewapple2020 · 08/12/2020 16:04

So it sounds as if places with previous fewer cases in the south are rising but areas in the north cases reducing .

At least this must be showing that stricter measures, when in place, are working .

We are in the middle, currently Tier 3, our cases are reducing as quickly as they shot up immediately before lockdown, but we are still quite high so expect to remain in Tier 3 .

I think they'll want to keep tier 3 where there is any doubt at all as hopefully this could mitigate against the post Christmas spike . It would be nice to go out for a meal over Christmas though.

ellentree · 08/12/2020 16:06

I'm in Berkshire and our numbers have always been comparatively low until the past week or so. I think we will join Slough in tier 3!

Eccle80 · 08/12/2020 16:20

I think they will want to put at least a couple of areas down to show you can escape tier 3, most likely Derbyshire and Warwickshire unless they decide to split up bigger areas.

AnnnaBananna · 08/12/2020 16:26

Hoping that Tier 3 areas in the north will remain as Tier 3. So many stupid people on Facebook who are still rehearsing Christmas pantomimes and waiting to see if they can perform in socially distanced theatres from the 16th. So many idiots still booking in advance for Christmas meals and waiting to see if they’ll be able to go. FFS just stop being selfish and accept that we can’t do normal things this year! Staying in Tier 3 will put a stop to all of that dangerous nonsense.

clareykb · 08/12/2020 16:45

Whilst I largely agree with restrictions and I'm not anti lockdown my area of the north east has a rate of 101 down from 400 and something a few weeks ago. People who run hospitality businesses are going to be up in arms if they can't open in a week or so yet places down south with rates of 200+ remain open... Would be a hard sell for any government.

Loveatortie · 08/12/2020 17:19

Why Dials? I have dc at uni no one in either of their houses have had covid, nor tested positive in their tests to allow them home. Not many of my friends dc have either. Not all uni students are disease ridden and most are taking this seriously.

That's a bit over the top @AnnnaBananna
Why shouldn't people have a bit of hope of things opening up again if they see numbers in their areas doing down. Why shouldn't they hope to be able to have the same experiences that other people in the country will be having in tier 2, if they see that numbers in their area are going down?

clareykb · 08/12/2020 18:01

Oh and @AnnnaBananna I have my panto tickets booked for the 22nd in the North of I can go great if I can't doesn't matter but live would be a bit misserable with no hope, and having followed the rules to the letter I don't t feel that hoping for a Covid safe panto is that selfish thank you!

Newpuppymummy · 08/12/2020 18:59

Our numbers have gone from 400s to 100s in the past 3 weeks. I’m really hoping we move back to tier 2

SunshineOutdoors · 08/12/2020 19:05

We’re down to 60 cases per 100,000 in the last 7 days, down from about 300 in October. Any chance any areas will be added to tier 1? I know it’s not just the rates but lots of other stuff as well, and would expect ours to be a lot lower before being moved but would love to know if that might be an option at some point. I do feel very lucky to be in tier 2 and not 3, but haven’t done much —any— socialising outdoors in groups of 6 given the current weather.

Sallycinnamum · 08/12/2020 19:10

I'm in Essex/london borders and it's running riot in the schools here. Two weeks ago there was the odd isolated case but its rampaging through the secondary schools.

I'm hearing rumours the schools will shut this Friday but whether there's any truth in it I really don't know.

Susanwouldntlikeit · 08/12/2020 19:16

Numbers are falling and the vaccine is being rolled out so that those in categories (care homes and over 80s) that had 60% of deaths will be vaccinated in the first tranches.
No justification for tightening restrictions - I bet r were ill remain the same or drop. It is hospitality industry that will suffer because people will just buy their booze from supermarkets and party at home.

Gobacktothe90s · 08/12/2020 19:20

If Greater Manchester doesn't get moved to tier 2 after rates have dropped dramatically and being under harsher restrictions than anywhere else (apart from Leicester) since forever, plus the fact the rates for north west are well below London in tier 2 I actually think riots will happen.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/12/2020 19:21

Honestly, I think I'm with AnnnaBananna. I'm in a tier 3 area with reducing numbers and I'm hoping these restrictions stay in place so we are not stoking the fire right before the 5 days of Christmas easing and leaving us in the January shit.

AnnnaBananna · 08/12/2020 19:44

Why shouldn't people have a bit of hope of things opening up again if they see numbers in their areas doing down
Because that will cause the numbers to go back up again, right before Christmas when everyone will be mixing.

I don't feel that hoping for a Covid safe panto is that selfish
It won’t be safe. It can’t possibly be safe with that many people in the same room. Also very foolish and selfish to go to a big event and expose yourself to risk on the 22nd if you’re seeing people on the 25th. That’s exactly why I’m hoping Tier 3 will remain, because it puts a stop to the silly people organising pantos and the even sillier people who will go to see them.

EasterIssland · 08/12/2020 20:26

Does anyone know when the new tiers will start ? Announced on the 16th? Or announced sooner and starts on the 16th ?
I’ve got hairdresser booked on the 18th and would be nice to have some food after it

Denthelp · 08/12/2020 20:37

@EasterIssland that’s a good point. Will they start straight away? After Christmas maybe?

OP posts:
clareykb · 08/12/2020 20:51

@AnnnaBananna nope just us for Christmas as we have both been at work and kids in school so keeping away from elderly relatives anyway. I'm not daft I'd not be going out week before if we were. I'm happy with my risk assessment. Not really on to call people who follow the actual rules silly 🙂

clareykb · 08/12/2020 20:53

@EasterIssland I am fairly sure I read reviewed 16th to start 19th but don't know where I saw it...

Yes just seen this
Areas which are approved for Tier changes will see the switch take place on December 19.

So no indoors food for me if we get back to tier 2
