The media is going on and on and on about the 800k vaccines that honestly won’t really touch the sides of this pandemic. When are the next coming or is this it until the New Year?

4 million doses by Xmas is 2 million people. There’s 63 million people in this country.

So if they can do 2million a fortnight (I doubt it will go that well). That’s 4 million a month. So that’s over a year to everyone at that rate.

So no, not brilliant. Hopefully things speed up.

@justasking111

There are 818k people in nursing homes in this country someone said so we need 1.6 million doses for them then there are the staff that work in those homes.
No, that’s wrong. There were a little over 400K elderly people in care homes (not just nursing homes) at the start of the pandemic. That was before 20K of them died of Covid owing to the lack of PPE and hospitals discharging patients back to care homes without testing them.

818K is about the right ballpark for care home residents plus staff.

It is going to speed up.

They are starting with hospital hubs, then at a later date there will be GP-run mass vaccination centres in places like sports centres, all over the place. Open 12 hours per day, 7 days per week.

They expect the majority of vulnerable people to be vaccinated in January and February. That’s over 20 million people in 2 months.

@cantkeepawayforever
I think you should really thank Cameron first - I assure I do everyday with gritted teeth
Boris has this self image of being a mix of our American fiend & Churchill - with the worst aspects of both & his twee sayings make me grind my teeth
At this rate I won't need to go to the dentist when I can finally get a check up

re the vaccinations if its the Oxford one & its intramuscular very basic skills are needed - I imagine they might get student nurses etc to help -

dh was trying to work out how many vax an individual could do with the USA one with its 6 hour window usage & the number that can be thawed at a time - he worked out about 30 or so - especially if you dealing with fragile v elderly (it can be a bit more difficult to vax them - skin is fragile & they will need a lot of tact especially if any are confused. Which is another reason for needing the Oxford Vaccine -please god it works & Trump is trying to get law through to make sure any vaccine they produce is used there first - as these are private companies who have worked with others countries -

@timeforanewstart

Do any of you actually know how customs and paperwork works ? Items are brought into the country regularly from many many places everyday I read 4 million doses due in by end of year , remember we are not the only country buying it and storage is hard Also we have ordered various amounts of several vaccines not just this Give them a chance to roll it out its not a simple proccess , its not often you have to try and vaccinate a large amount of the population all on one day
You very clearly don't so I have no idea why you think you know more.
