We are in tier 2 and school is taking all govt recommended measures yet still had 66 positive test results this week! (throughout every year group). DD's football also cancelled this week due to another positive case (not linked to school and from surrounding borough). Seems to me cases are soaring!?

I know the school you are referring to OP.

My children are at different schools but I am, like many other local people, are absolutely astonished that the school hasn't been shut for a fire break and deep clean. I know parents who are now refusing to send their children in and who are being given a very hard time by authorities. If my children were there I would not send them in either.

The local cases are skyrocketing because of this school which is going to lead to greater community transmission. People are getting very angry with this school and their reputation is absolutely at rock bottom now. Facebook posts by the council saying be careful simply doesn't cut it at all.

Parents really don't have a choice do they. I wish people would stop blaming us as if we have any power in this situation. The fines are more of a threat than they used to be now so many people are furloughed or unemployed. In the middle of a financial crisis taking stand isn't as simple as some people make out.

There seems such disparaity round here schools are isolating whole year for one case.
If there were even 10 cases in a few days in my ds school across year groups if not shut I would not send him in let alone 53 , sod what la said or school

timeforanewstart · 06/12/2020 18:58

@MrsMigginsMate if everyone kept them home what could they reAlly do , fine them all.

@FrangipaniBlue

If it gets into a school, there’s nothing to stop it spreading.

DS school (circa 1400 pupils) has had 8 cases since September, so I can't say I agree with this l.

8 detected cases.

Yes, there's nothing to stop them doing just that actually

MrsMigginsMate · 06/12/2020 19:33

And another thought @timeforanewstart , our head has told us we risk losing the school placement, something most families wouldn't want for their kids due to all the ramifications. Changing schools is hard on kids, and that's if you're lucky enough to be accepted to another one.

timeforanewstart · 06/12/2020 20:11

Well then we would all be experiencing a lot of illnesses at home and be off .
After all if one of us has symptoms we have to isolate nothing says I have to take a test that I am aware of

Emeraldshamrock · 06/12/2020 20:47

That is a lot. We're in a high risk area there has been 6 confirmed cases in my DC's school with 700 odd DC.

DubbinDobbin · 06/12/2020 20:53

I've no idea how many cases in DS1's school but it was enough to trigger a temporary shut for a deep clean, then the council said all pupils to have a test. now had an email to say there's been a positive case in his year group so they're all to self-isolate. Won't be back in school to January. All pretty sensible and I'm assuming other year groups will have a similar situation as the test results come back.

There's been hardly any cases in DS2's school, but he goes to our local one which is semi-rural, smallish for a secondary. DS1's school is bigger and in a larger town that has had a lot more cases in the community.

There are now over 88 cases at this school and they have refused to shut despite the local and county council asking them to! The whole area could now be put in tier 3 because of this school.

How can a school be allowed to operate like this?

I'm not sure this is the same school. I haven't heard anything about 88 cases at Ds's school or county council asking them to shut. That may mean two schools had the high levels last week.x
