I haven't missed anything big. But my son missed a trip to Turkey and my daughter two school trips, one to Prague and another to Amsterdam (both part of her gcse courses). They both handled the disappointment well, but it was such a shame as both were so excited.

NewNameNewJob · 29/11/2020 12:49

Best friend's 50th birthday, holiday, Nan's funeral and my graduation

ShopTattsyrup · 29/11/2020 12:50
  • SIL's big 30th do
  • Holiday to Europe (first abroad holiday in 3 years)
  • Friend's wedding
  • Green man festival
  • Buying our first home - not concrete so not sure if it counts, we were saving money at a rate that we would have our deposit by the summer, partner out of work since Covid (freelance) ate into our savings and minimal ability to replenish. He's back in work now but at a reduced rate so although not eating into our savings any more - no real ability to save at the moment. It'll be tail end of 2021 or early 2022 before we're back where we should have been 4 months ago.

Nothing except a week's holiday in Scotland. And we would have probably gone to the Channel Islands at some point. Also friends who were going to visit in October from Germany couldn't come. And a friend's wedding was cancelled. However, we should be able to catch up on all of those things next year.

However, DS missed out on an 18th birthday party and his driving lessons have been massively disrupted. However, he should be able to catch up on both those things too. The worst thing is if they insist on carrying on A level exams with no reduction in content and/or making them open book, effectively putting 17/18 year olds through exams they are not prepared well enough for.

OffredOfjune · 29/11/2020 12:54

My dream holiday to Rome - hopefully we can go next year. The exact time we were supposed to be flying out there, we were walking around a socially-distanced Aldi. Could have cried.

cologne4711 · 29/11/2020 12:54

@BluebirdHill

DC who was year 6 when all this started missed out on all the leaving primary school rituals, prom and everything fun, saying proper goodbyes.
I thought Y6s were in school from May half term to the usual end of term in July?

I didn't realise they had proms at primary school level now too!

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 29/11/2020 12:55

Disneyworld and universal studios Florida.

Mums 80th birthday (she's in a home and I've not seen her since February).

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 29/11/2020 12:56

I lost a job but got another and we've still managed a holiday and weekend away. So not too bad.

annonymousse · 29/11/2020 12:56

My honeymoon. We managed the wedding by making it an elopement and no guests but the honeymoon is in limbo

DoveGreylove · 29/11/2020 13:02

Missed holidays x3
Only seen my parents twice this whole year (at the beginning before it all started)
Missed meeting my nephew
No 1st birthday party for my baby it was just the 3 of us at home
Missed making new mum friends
Missed baby classes
Missed a surprise 70th birthday party

I'm so miserable

TopBitchoftheWitches · 29/11/2020 13:03

My 16 yr old daughter missed out on leaving school, her GCSEs and her prom.

I was and still am gutted for her.

Mogtheforgetfulmum · 29/11/2020 13:06

My wedding
My mum's 70th birthday
My uncles funeral
Pretty much the first year of my nephews life

ferretface · 29/11/2020 13:07

So far:

One of my best friends weddings
Seeing another best friend's baby
Four festivals
Two gigs
A week of ski holiday
The London marathon, twice (April and October)
5 or so races

And a whole host of smaller things

Wakemeuuuup · 29/11/2020 13:12

PIL 50th wedding anniversary
Uncle's funeral (natural causes)
Nephew's 21st birthday

Haven't seen family this year. I hate 2020. I just hope 2021 is better and here's are either not too hard or cancelled

Wakemeuuuup · 29/11/2020 13:13

GCSEs not here's

Jaxhog · 29/11/2020 13:13

My 'big' retirement holiday to New Zealand.
All other holidays.
Weekends away.
My weekly art class
Going out generally.
Seeing my family (Mum, Brothers, sisters) in person
Seeing friends in person
Shopping in London
A funeral
My big annual weekend party with friends.
Several conferences
My nephew's 18th birthday

As a vulnerable person, I've had to isolate, so I really, really miss seeing people.

madmarchmare · 29/11/2020 13:14

2 weeks holiday over Easter cancelled

1 week away in October half term cancelled cos would have broken rule of 6

Trip to Harry Potter studios in March cancelled. Rearranged for Feb. Ds will
Be gutted if he still can't go.

But it's more the "little things" like normal get togethers with friends and family that have upset me more than these big things.

ConcernedAuntie · 29/11/2020 13:16

Riding from Chicago to Los Angeles on Route 66 on a Harley Davidson.

Trip to St Petersburg.

Didn't go away at all in 2019 to save up for it, so by the time we get away somewhere it is likely to be 2 years since we had even a night away. Hey ho - hopefully next year. At least we are still here.

Bridecilla · 29/11/2020 13:17

Ah it's totally rubbish reading everyone's lists.

Forgot to add:
Honeymoon (3 weeks in Turkey)
Weekend with the girls
Hen do
My students' GCSE exams

OP posts:
dementedma · 29/11/2020 13:17

Friend’s wedding.

Attending funeral of another friend’s child.

bigbluebus · 29/11/2020 13:19

Holiday to Cape Verde in March
DS's graduation in July
Festival in August
Concerts in March and November.
Trip to visit DS for his birthday last week.

Mommabear20 · 29/11/2020 13:22

My husband being with me during my labour induction with DD (our first child),
My mum not being able to meet DD (was born in June) due to travel restrictions in England and France,
Mums groups cancelled so not been able to socialise with other new mums,
Husband having to work different shifts to normal so hardly see him,
2 holidays being cancelled,
Not being able to buy our first home together as banks changed the deposits they need.

TheCrowsHaveEyes · 29/11/2020 13:23

Seeing friends from England
Seeing friends from Germany
DS school trip
DD confirmation party
Niece's engagement party
Nephew's engagement party
Holiday to Venice
Two short breaks
Taking DF to Ireland to trace his family tree

The last one is the worst because DF had an accident during lockdown and is now too infirm to ever make the trip and meet his long-lost relatives.

blackwych · 29/11/2020 13:25

Yr 6 DS missed all the usual school leaving stuff.
Older DS missed week long trip away with Explorers.
Both missed all their usual weekly Scouts, Explorers, swimming and a lot of the cricket season.
FIL's 80th birthday.
Christmas abroad visiting family.
And no doubt many other family meet ups and weekends away that never got planned.
