I can’t find info anywhere to say if it is or not. Or whether it’s just advised not to.

Thank you

Not sure. But I just did. I am literally a 2 minute walk from tier 3 (my house) to tier 2 ( different county). Was about as rebellious as i get these days.

bluejelly · 29/11/2020 10:57

I think they strongly advise against it. Not sure it's illegal.

thalassoma · 29/11/2020 10:59

I'm same as Pickle, in Tier 2 but 2 mins walk from county border of tier 3.

I've been joking/wondering if they're going to put a checkpoint and barbed wire up on the overbridge.

CountFosco · 29/11/2020 11:02

No, it's not against the rules.

In Scotland police are fining drivers who cross between tier 2 and tier3/4

Nicknacky · 29/11/2020 11:17

Bumply Only of the drivers come to the attention of the police for some other reason. They are not routinely stopping motorists.

Yaty · 29/11/2020 11:17

In England it is not illegal only guidelines to stay in your area.

Ginogineli · 29/11/2020 11:25

Not illegal to travel between tiers- even in tier 3 you can still go abroad on holiday. You can go anywhere you want

There is advice against it but you are not 'strongly advised' at all -some people just make their own harsher interpretation of the rules

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/11/2020 11:31

It is not illegal, just advised against.

Wherearefoxssocks · 29/11/2020 12:01

I hope not. I'm booked onto an outdoor christmas activity in a tier 3 area. I'm in tier 2. Hoping we can still go

shittingthreeeyedraven · 29/11/2020 12:10

Well I live in tier 3 and work in tier 2 so that will be fun if I can’t travel between the two 🤷‍♀️ And my horses are in tier 2 so I’ll be going that way lots too

Coasterfan · 29/11/2020 15:03

I know Warwick castle, tier 3 have asked anyone in tiers 1 or 2 to cancel Christmas bookings @Wherearefoxssocks not sure if your event may do similar. It’s a request not an instruction however so sure everyone will still go!!
ButterflyBitch · 29/11/2020 18:22

Why can you still go abroad if you’re in tier 3? So can’t go anywhere in tier 3 but ok to spread it abroad? Wtf!

PuzzledObserver · 29/11/2020 21:37

@Coasterfan

I live very close to Warwick Castle. Poor buggers have been open/closed/open/closed.

RedToothBrush · 29/11/2020 21:56

If a restuarant has a booking from someone who lives in a tier 3 area then they potentially are at risk of not being covid safe and may be at risk of a fine. Enforcement rules have been tightened up for the new tier system. Its easier to close / fine premises.

So people who travel out of area just so they can still go to the pub/eat out are not supporting the business.

The same is likely to apply to hotels/holiday venues.

So whilst its technically 'guidance' rather than law its problematic.

You are allowed to leave / enter T3 for essential reasons such as work or food shopping under the guidance.

ellenpartridge · 29/11/2020 21:57

It absolutely isn't illegal to travel in and out of tier 3.

Frazzled2207 · 29/11/2020 22:20

not advised but not illegal. Round here going abroad seems to be actively encouraged given how many people I know are escaping to the canaries or dubai! I suppose our government is more bothered about us spreading it in tier 2 than abroad

Ethelfleda · 30/11/2020 08:09

Not to derail but where is the information about international travel?
Last I checked, it was in the CV legislation that during the last lockdown, you couldn’t travel internationally unless for a permitted reason. Haven’t seen how (if?) that rule will change when lockdown ends and the Tier system starts.

We are supposed to be going to ROI over Christmas. I can see us cancelling the ferry again!

Ginogineli · 30/11/2020 17:42

There are no travel abroad rules as there's no lockdown anymore. Gov guidelines links just to the FCO page now
if you go on any fco country page it says restrictions on abroad holidays ends wednesday

sleepwouldbenice · 30/11/2020 18:08

Strongly advised not to but not illegal

A list of exceptions given which don't include leisure

Seems clear to me

Hoseasons are offering refunds if your holiday is in tier 3 and you shouldn't travel there or you are in tier 3 and shouldn't go

sleepwouldbenice · 30/11/2020 20:37

Someone has just posted the legislation on the can I go out for a meal in tier 2 thread

OrangeBananaFish · 30/11/2020 21:49

I'm another who is very close to the border. I live in tier 2, but 2 miles in one direction and 1.5 miles down another road is the next county which is in tier 3. The best supermarkets near me are also in tier 3. I also have running friends who live in tier 3 that I may go running with (obvs in groups of 6)

I fully intend to travel to tier 3 for grocery shopping or running (outdoors). I'm not travelling out of my local area, just not going to stay out of tier 3.

xanthippe8 · 30/11/2020 22:52

I'm pleased to read this (if I've got it right). We entered lock down 2 in tier 1, when we emerge we'll be in tier 3. Our nearest supermarkets are just down the road and in tier 2, (are you still with me?). Tier 3 supermarkets are 10+ miles away! FFS, where do I stand?

SheepandCow · 30/11/2020 22:55

No, not illegal. You might, for example, be heading to or from the airport.

MiddleClassMother · 30/11/2020 22:59

You can leave any tiers it's just advised not to. You can even travel in a tier 3 area out of the country.
