I go into nursing homes and want to be vaccinated. I had the antibody test and was negative.

Via your GP on basis that you’re a front line HCP or the care home providers organise it for you

LegoPandemic · 28/11/2020 17:54

I’m wondering this too.

muddledmidget · 28/11/2020 17:56

I'm a locum pharmacist. I'm hoping that the CCG will ask pharmacies to provide a list of their staff who will be eligible, and that I can be included on the list for a branch I work in regularly. So I would have thought the care homes could sort it out for you.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/12/2020 15:58

Well I contacted the gp via email and got the brush off. Their not organising it the local gp federation are.

No idea. I have an honorary contract with the hospital and work shifts there but they don’t pay me so I’m technically not staff. I’m not even allowed lateral flow tests like all the other staff so doubt I’ll get a jab.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/12/2020 16:04

It’s a joke isn’t it?.

Contact your GP and quote this link:

Make sure that they know you are a healthcare worker and that they have you coded correctly. I would email or e consult as it isn’t fair to phone - they are busy. If you don’t get a response then phone and speak to the practice manager.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/12/2020 16:19

I’ll phone, emailing didn’t get me anywhere.

Alfaix · 09/01/2021 07:46

Hoping you have got somewhere now? I’m having mine today.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/01/2021 08:26

Nope, being blanked. I’m supposed to get free flu jabs too but I gave up years ago and just pay every year.

This is ridiculous. What about the actual homes what are the staff there doing? Can you tag on? Tweet your mp if they’re helpful

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/01/2021 09:33

None of them have had the vaccine as yet.

Frazzled2207 · 09/01/2021 09:46

@Fluffycloudland77
That may be but I’ve heard they all will by the end of Jan so worth enquiring
Care homes have been visited here literally the last few days

SmallYappyTypeDog · 09/01/2021 10:44

@JacobReesMogadishu at my trust we got an email opening vaccines to all trust staff. It said they are working on organising for all other staff that also work in the hospital.

celebrityskin · 09/01/2021 10:47

Get your GP to code you as "Healthcare professional" on your records. You are then in Group 2 and eligible to be booked into the GP federation hub. We can do that on our local practice computer but may not be the same in other areas. However they should be able to give you the name of the hub and you can call them. Otherwise you could call the GP federation yourself. But getting coded to Group 2 is key to show you're eligible

GirlsonFilm · 09/01/2021 12:20

Local ccg is coordinating vacs for health & social care, so perhaps contact them.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/01/2021 14:43

Well I rang the drs surgery and the receptionist said I’d be contacted when it was my turn but couldn’t answer how PHE would know I’m a private healthcare provider apart from saying my governing society would tell them, told them COP wasn’t doing that. No further help apart from saying they aren’t anything to do with the vaccine.

So, I emailed the homes I have the best relationships with and 2hrs later I had the Astra Zeneca vaccine. Second dose in 12 weeks.

@Fluffycloudland77
Brilliant news .A bit ridiculous that you've had to be so proactive but pleased it's sorted.

Covidcovid · 11/01/2021 16:05

I ended up getting mine at the hospital after contacting them. I'm not technically on their books but do some self employed work on their wards. Patient facing. They let me book as normal staff.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/01/2021 16:10

The best bit is I have a CEV dh who never stopped shielding from April and has heart failure

With me vaccinated you protect him too.

Alfaix · 11/01/2021 16:51

This is brilliant news.
It does seem to be who you know and being in the right place at the right time though which isn’t ideal.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/01/2021 17:12

Nope, healthcare should not like this. But I’m done. Now to get dh done next but CEV are group 4 😭. I won’t relax till he’s had two doses and I’ve been taking precautions since feb 20. A lot of what we were told to do for enhanced infection control & shielding advice I was already doing.

OP posts:
Alfaix · 11/01/2021 17:14

What do you do? Could you volunteer to be part of the vaccination team?
A lot of people seem to be getting done at the end of sessions to prevent wasting the vaccine so you might get DH done quicker that way, or if you know a friendly GP?

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/01/2021 17:17

I’m a podiatrist.

I can’t risk dh getting it so I won’t volunteer to help vaccinate. His health is too precarious to risk.

Alfaix · 11/01/2021 17:18

Fair enough. I’m wearing a FFP2 mask with IIR on top until to do it at the minute.
