Kids in my daughter's secondary school don't wash hands, use sanitizer, wear masks (ever). They cuddle and kiss on top of all the other non social distancing stuff.

And classes/year groups/ actual bubbles haven't been sent home since late September. Now it's just a handful of close contacts - if that.

We're in a highly infected which is rapidly rising area - but the school 'seemingly' is currently barely affected ...

Very naughty child sat at front of my classroom 4 days a week, needing constant attention. Parent symptomatic, awaiting test, sent child in. Both eventually tested positive. No communication with school, only discovered on return. Thanks x

herecomesthsun · 27/11/2020 23:14

Tracking etc.etc.

It is an airborne virus.

  1. Close the whole bloody bubble.
  1. Test the whole bubble.
  1. Could the government follow the bloody science please. FFS.

Thank you

As the DfE has now taken to posting on MN and is now centralising decisions on covid outbreaks in individual schools....

DfE, what are you going to do about the covid in my DCs school?

A former tier 1 area, steady increase in cases in school since the start of Autumn term, now tier 3, lockdown V2 hasn’t solved it, So, what are you going to do about it?? The school has followed your guidance to the letter, so over to you.

My family has adhered to the covid rules you set and more. We’ve been nowhere except country walks, no visitors, no visiting, no holidays, no days out and about.

Should my family be covid harmed by your ineffective guidance to schools, I will sue the DfE. And remember, the secondary pupils of today, are the voters of tomorrow.

I’m sure many parents and teachers also have questions to ask about their schools....

pontypridd · 27/11/2020 23:47

Hello DfE

Our primary school has 6 teachers off - they’re all positive with COVID - currently. Others are off waiting for test results.

My son is being taught by a virtual teacher - I kid you not! His class is taught by their class teacher on zoom every day. TA is otherwise in charge.

I’m worried that these teachers are going to get Long Covid or die. We’ll hold you (DfE) responsible if this happens.

Apricotta · 29/11/2020 11:01

I'm so worried now the PM has mentioned no tiers after Feb 3rd Sad DfE better get some good lawyers if they don't change their guidance

middleager · 29/11/2020 11:30

Hello DfE, my child caught Covid at school off classmates. 10% of them currently have it.
As a family we've been nowhere to give our DCS the best chance at school in Gcse years. One son has had 34 school days at home since September, 4 lots of self isolation, the other 20 days, because cases are so high.

I'm not sure how, but I'd like to sue you for this and the damage you've done through your lies.

ancientgran · 29/11/2020 11:42

I love the seating plans for 4 and 5 year olds, I mean they will never mix will then? I live near a school and see little ones running up and hugging each other in the playground.

Mumof3andlovingit · 29/11/2020 11:52

A BAME teacher at my local secondary school is in hospital with complications after contracting covid at school. He’s only 34 and had absolutely no underlying health conditions and has a very healthy BMI. His pregnant BAME wife has also got the virus from him.
Cases in that school are deliberately being ignored by the head and slt and not enough is being done to protect the staff there as they have so many teachers off isolating or ill with covid, so therefore they aren’t following the guidelines and asking staff to isolate if they are in contact with positive cases. Who do I speak to about this? Both my kids are students there and I’m terrified for them and the school community.

Don't worry too much about Feb 3rd at this stage.

Whilst the PM has said that we don't know where we will be at in Feb.

It will be very difficult to just abolish the tiers if there are areas that still have very high numbers if cases and the vaccination programme hasn't made significant progress.

Once the vaccine starts rolling out and you are getting a large number of cases in schools still you have another issue on your hands about health and safety.

In theory the clinically vulnerable and school staff should be a higher priority for vaccinations.

You should be more worried if we have lots of issues with roll out (which i would expect tbh). At which point political pressure to extend the tiers beyond Feb 3rd would grow.

So this is a worry for a bit further down the line and to remember Johnson is well known for u-turns...

You could write to the governors and your MP, expressing your concerns.

There is social and local media. I contacted a local health reporter to ask her to look into the dire situation in schools, but it's hard as I don't want to give my name or details of the schools. I have just asked in general if they can look further than Govt gaslighting and see how desperate the situation is here.

Apricotta · 29/11/2020 12:32

@RedToothBrush I'll be in my third trimester of pregnancy then, I doubt I'll be getting a jab...

Apricotta · 29/11/2020 12:34

It's just so disgusting how the DfE, Government, PM are basically sending us over the top of the trenches. They don't give a shit about us. Sad they only care about angry parents.

noblegiraffe · 29/11/2020 12:46

The media seem determined to ignore the issues going on in schools. Or they have been told to.

Why are they not linking the insane infection rates in secondary schools to the need for higher tiers coming out of lockdown? That might be of national interest?

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 29/11/2020 12:51

They cant be ignorant now. It must be intentional.

Barbie222 · 29/11/2020 12:56

@ancientgran

I know. It's not good practice for them to be sitting in them for more than 40 minutes, which is when they get up and all mix together. However, it has made my job so much more time consuming, as I am now setting out and tidying up equipment on rows of tables daily like I am setting a wedding table up. Totally unnecessary, window dressing.
Barbie222 · 29/11/2020 12:58

@Apricotta

This is probably because education settings are rigorously enforcing all the mitigations – handwashing, mask wearing, bubbles, isolation of staff and pupils with symptoms etc

Are they fuck, especially when they don't wear fucking masks in packed classrooms with no social distancing.

Fucking liars.

Love the word "probably". Thinking of some ashen faced lawyer over there begging for it to be popped in.
LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 29/11/2020 13:00

When someone claims to be a teacher yet does not use basic punctuation I tend to think they are not.

Just stirring the pot.

mooncakes · 29/11/2020 13:18

@Barbie222 40 minutes? Surely there is no reception class anywhere making children sit at desks for 40 minutes Confused I'm surprised you even have enough tables and chairs for every child to sit down.

Barbie222 · 29/11/2020 13:21

I teach year 1. I think 40 minutes is too long for either year group. However, year 1 fall under different guidance so unfortunately the seating plans and restrictions on when we can use the shared space all apply to us.

Apricotta · 29/11/2020 13:24

@LastGoldenDaysOfSummer who was that aimed at? Sometimes I can't be arsed esp on weekends and days off to SPG check my posts plus my auto correct on my devices is so shit i give up! #biggerlifeproblems #dontgiveashit

Apricotta · 29/11/2020 13:25

I mean this is the problem with our society in this country, all out of fucks apart from our nearest and dearest.

noblegiraffe · 29/11/2020 13:28

It wasn't aimed at you, Apricotta, you're clearly a teacher with your exasperated expletive-filled posts at the DfE.

It's the ones saying everything is fine you have to be wary of.

Apricotta · 29/11/2020 13:32

@noblegiraffe nothing like a good expletive to get the F'ing point across Wink

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 29/11/2020 14:35

Noble's right. Not aimed at you at all.
