"Decisions on which area goes into which tier are primarily based on 5 key epidemiological indicators:"

"case detection rates in all age groups"
"case detection rates in the over-60s"
"the rate at which cases are rising or falling"
"positivity rate (the number of positive cases detected as a percentage of tests taken)"
"pressure on the NHS, including current and projected occupancy"

"The indicators are designed to provide a full picture of what is happening with the virus in any area so that suitable action can be taken."

@LondonlovesLola

All of London is only in Tier 2? Hmmm,

This.
Do they think we’re stupid? Not one area in tier 3...
Let’s look after London and f**k everyone/ everywhere else. I’m so angry.

This. When cases up north were low we still got bunged into lockdown 1 because London had a high number of cases.

Now it seems everything is being done to preserve London and, exactly, fuck everyone else.

XmasLockdown · 26/11/2020 12:27

Yes. I am happy in Liverpool. I am ok with the rules. I really hoped that we drop to tier 2 from tier3.

midgebabe · 26/11/2020 12:28

@LizzieSiddal

We're in tier 2 despite only having 73 per 100,000. They are being very strict aren't they.
Yes. I suspect it's because they are worried about Christmas. I also suspect any down grading of area to lower tier is unlikely until after the impact of Christmas has been quantified..so second week of January even if they'd review every week unless an area sees a phenomenal improvement
LizzieSiddal · 26/11/2020 12:29

Clearasmuddypuddles Oh that's a shame. Mind you, if you wanted to leave your baby with someone you form a bubble with, whilst you go and do something else, that would surely count?

My grandchild is only a month old, so I'll be able to continue helping DD.

Longwhiskers14 · 26/11/2020 12:29

PinkPlantCase That's exactly it. Our infections have been fairly high (but are now slowly coming down) but hospitalisations haven't been that bad. That's not been the case elsewhere.

Hayeahnobut · 26/11/2020 12:30

@Longwhiskers14 It is a North South divide though, as it has been since day one. We locked down in March despite cases in the Midlands and the North being very low. Now we have many areas with lower than national average figures, but they're in Tier 3. The key difference is that London has far better hospital capacity than Northern areas, London has always had far better investment than the North.

I don't begrudge people living in lower tiers at all, but to suggest there is not a disparity in treatment is naive.

Longwhiskers14 · 26/11/2020 12:30

Now it seems everything is being done to preserve London and, exactly, fuck everyone else.

How does locking down parts of the north preserve London then? I'd be really interested to know.

speakout · 26/11/2020 12:31

I sympathise.

I am in Scotland and have been in tier 3 for the past 8 weeks.

nosswith · 26/11/2020 12:31

Pleased not to be in tier 3. Surprised that parts of Suffolk not in tier 1. Noticeable how few cabinet ministers have constituencies in tier 3, if my recollection of their constituencies is correct, only Robert Jenrick.

Hope someone is checking that a former advisor is not travelling to Barnard Castle as it is in tier 3.

knittingaddict · 26/11/2020 12:31

@Bonkerz

I don't know what this means for ex seeing the kids. Both counties in tier 3. He's not my bubble because I work from home with a friend who is my bubble otherwise she wouldn't have a job.
Child contact is in the exemptions. It's allowed no matter what tier your in.
nosswith · 26/11/2020 12:32

Havering should have been tier 3 I think.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/11/2020 12:34

Thanks very much OP

Semi- rural but Tier 3 here. Makes little difference to me as I've been hunkered down in isolation since March due to health issues and will have to remain so until I get the vaccine.

Dustballs · 26/11/2020 12:35

Sorry - but what actual difference is there between these new tier 2s and 3s?

And how are they going to be any different to the lockdown that we've just come out of?

I'm struggling to see what I should be getting excited or depressed about.

Zoolally · 26/11/2020 12:36

We’re tier 3 and, honestly, I’m just over it all. So fed up but trying my best to stay positive and happy for the kids.

You can meet your 6 people in more places in t2 than t3
Starlightstarbright1 · 26/11/2020 12:37

Tier 3- not surpised.

Just checked Leicester still tier 3....I feel miserable- must be far worse for them. just glad will be able to get to the gym

TurquoiseDragon · 26/11/2020 12:37

Pisses me off a bit really. I live in a town that had managed to remain in Tier 1 until this current lockdown, and now we are being lumped into the rest of the county and pushed into Tier 3.

angelofthenorth72 · 26/11/2020 12:39

So annoyed. The whole of Lancashire has been bundled into Tier 3 despite the fact that cases are falling in every area except Hyndburn and Lancashire council leaders had made a case to have boroughs in the north and west of the county (e.g. Fylde, Wyre, Lancaster) in Tier 2 and East Lancs in Tier 3.

On a day to day practical level

Rule of 6 in your back garden is the main one.

I do find it very telling the difference between people being delighted at T2 v the people devasted at T2.

Try T3 before complaining too hard as you won't find a lot of sympathy from people who have been T3.

PuppyMonkey · 26/11/2020 12:39

Tier 3 - also not surprised. I reckon nobody really knows which areas are in the “East Midlands” so they thought sod it, put them all in.

PuzzledObserver · 26/11/2020 12:40

Tier 3. Were Tier 1 before this lockdown, and cases are falling. Don’t get it, but never mind, I will comply. Owing to my particular life and work circumstances, it makes bugger all difference really.

Where are your local hospitals?

Thats your problem.

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

Parts of London have rates far higher than areas which are in Tier 3 and yet they are in Tier 2. Piss Take
I don't think they just look at rates, they look at hospital capacity and things. That said, I thought the same really, we are London and rates in our area have been rising steeply recently as far as I know, but we are only Tier 2 which seems odd.
