If your DC had coronavirus, did you catch it from him/her/them?

Just that really. Curious about whether anyone has managed to avoid catching covid when in the same house as someone (especially a child) has tested positive. If so, did you socially distance at home?

Thanks!

4 in house DS caught it and nobody else. He isolated in his room from start of symptoms (fever).

PrivateD00r · 24/11/2020 19:52

My DH slept beside me in the same bed right through my illness. He never caught it! Not sure if the DC did, they had sore throats but weren't unwell as such and none of the classic symptoms.

Littlebelina · 24/11/2020 19:59

Ds caught it, none of rest of us

Bulblasagnes · 24/11/2020 20:07

That’s incredible! And very reassuring. As you might have guessed, one my my DC has the virus 🤦🏽‍♀️

Keep the good stories coming!

I’ve been worrying about this. My 2 year old is waiting on test results and I am ECV and obviously being mum she has been glued to me for the past 2 days, coughing and sneezing on me. No way I can distance from her when she feels poorly and all she wants is me!

freddiemercury · 24/11/2020 20:45

My son had it...14 years old...coughing when snuggled up to me. I didn't catch it.. have had three negative antibody tests...he's had two positive ones. My husband definitely didn't get it either...neg antibody test. If my younger son caught it then he was asymptomatic....

MadauntofA · 24/11/2020 21:03

I cuddled DD who had a cold and loss of smell - isolated after testing positive. Didn't catch it. Slept next to DH who was positive with "flu" symptoms, and caught it a few days later.
None of us had a typical cough, or temp.

MadauntofA · 24/11/2020 21:04

DH definitely caught it at work - not from DD either

Littlebelina · 24/11/2020 21:38

We held a bowl whilst ds vomited which you think would be fairly risky and plenty of cuddles

Bulblasagnes · 24/11/2020 22:15

That’s reassuring. Was feeling very doomed!

This is reassuring to read, my DS tested positive, day 10 here for us and so far me and DH are feeling ok and my DS is all but recovered. I’m in the vulnerable group so was worried.... still have four more days isolation to do and keeping everything crossed we don’t catch it!

middleager · 25/11/2020 08:53

Good luck Bake I feel the same.

DS tested positive Sunday. He is 14 and in his room with his own bathroom (well he took over the family one).

I think the period 5-7 days after their symptoms is the most common for others to get it. We keep hoping we can get through.

How old is your child OP? It's obviously easier for me with a teen to maintain distance.

Bakewell79 · 25/11/2020 08:58

He is also 14 middleager, his symptoms have been so mild at first we thought it was just a cold!

His school has closed due to isolating teachers and positive cases but he’s continued to work online in his room but keeping a distance in our little house is impossible Grin

I hope your son is on the mend!

middleager · 25/11/2020 09:44

Thanks Bake I'm glad your son's on the mend. I'm interested in the 'viral load' aspect in this.

My friend's child was asymptomatic and the parents did not catch it.

My son seems to have got a hefty dose as the boy he caught it off was in school with symptoms and next to him for lots of the day.
I think this is why my healthy strong boy was quite ill over the weekend.

Therefore I wonder if the milder the symptoms there's less viral load to pass on to family members?

Just a theory as I've thought about not much else since he tested positive!

Bakewell79 · 25/11/2020 09:50

Makes total sense Middle, we had a call from his school telling us one of his teachers tested positive and he was a close contact so he needed to isolate for 14 days but then got some mild symptoms, if it was just the teacher he came into contact with he would have only been with her for one hour that week as it’s not a core subject.

One other child in his class tested positive around the same time my son did and we are not aware of anyone else in his class.

Food for thought!

I went down the rabbit hole. The first five days seem to be the most infectious this new research concludes.

hi my parents just tested positive can you please just explain abit more about your experience like the ages and symptoms and how each day progressed please it would be very helpful

@Zem74 - same boat here. If my 3 year old gets it, I won't be able to distance. When she's under the weather she won't sleep unless I'm there with her. I've heard on other threads people have been told to 'distance' from their toddlers. It's ridiculous.

We won't get older kids to wear masks in school but we expect toddlers to do without their primary caregiver? It's impossible unless you have a nanny or other family member able to take over 100% anyway.

We had 12 yr old lose taste on evening of day one. I lost mine lunchtime day two. From then we’ve both just been exhausted, stuffy nose, slight headaches, slight cough. Jelly legs and head muzzy and just not thinking clearly or feeling very well. Nothing much has changed over ten days. Other three members of house are not ill.
GingerAndTheBiscuits · 25/11/2020 13:56

DD tested positive but DH and I both negative. All typical symptoms of a head cold though DH has it worse (of course Hmm ). DD ends up sleeping next to me every night so don’t know how much store to put in our negative results. Eldest DD no symptoms at all, didn’t have her tested.

dressingdowngown · 25/11/2020 14:34

My teenage son tested positive and none of the other 3 family members have had any symptoms. He was in very close contact with us day before test and then in his room for 10 days solid once positive.

janetmendoza · 25/11/2020 14:51

Yes whole household got it

middleager · 25/11/2020 14:59

janet oh no, are you all OK now?

What are the ages/timeline/symptoms for each if you're able to share? I think this would be helpful to those of us wondering how it 'could' play out.

Fantasmic143 · 25/11/2020 15:00

DD definitely had it in May (positive test) but her symptoms were all over the place - headache, fatigue that came and went and no fever/cough at all. It was only when she lost her sense of taste and smell that she went for a test. We all lived as normal in the house - shared bathroom, no isolation - as we didn't really think she had it! She is 22, rest of us, all adults, didn't have a whiff of illness.

NotAKaren · 25/11/2020 16:27

I would love to know why people in such close contact within a household do not always get it yet we are told we may get it from briefly being near someone in Sainsburys. In all the positive cases I know, no one else in the household has been positive. Why?
