Posting for quick response - rules on isolating while waiting for DC's test result?

I can't find anything that officially clarifies this.

DC was sent home last week as a child in their class tested positive. DC self isolates the rest of us carry on as normal. Fine. DC had a runny nose and headache, assumed a cold.

DC has now developed a cough. Have now booked a test as school confirmed DC plays regularly with the child who tested positive.

No one else in the family have any symptoms of anything.

Do my other DC now need to stay off school until the test result comes back or do they carry on going until a positive test result for their sibling?

I've looked but can't find this specific guidance only that the DC with symptoms should isolate until result is know.

Can anyone link me to the England guidance for this?

If someone in your household has symptoms, you all have to isolate. It's on the NHS / gov.uk website.

You all need to isolate

All isolate. We just had to do this for 5 days.

MiaThermopolis · 22/11/2020 13:36

thank you! why didn't that come up when i searched! i could only find stuff saying 'must isolate if living with someone who tests positive'.

Couple of days off school for the DC then!

You all need to isolate. Last week we had one off in their bubble. Then another developed a cough so we were all off. We got the test results on the third day. The one isolating in their school bubble has just under a week left though.

(Negative result in our household case).

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/11/2020 13:44

Yes you all isolate as there are symptoms. Headaches seem to be a common symptom in children along with sore throat and runny nose.

LIZS · 22/11/2020 13:50

Assume it is positive and all si until result is in. If negative only affected dc continues to si for 14 days.

AlexaShutUp · 22/11/2020 13:53

All isolate. This has been the guidance from the outset if someone in the household is symptomatic.

MiaThermopolis · 22/11/2020 13:56

Thanks everyone. It just wasnt coming up on my searches!

(and like i'm sure many others, there is so much guidance I have only looked for the bits that are relevant to my family when I need it)

Yes, if someone in your household is symptomatic you all need to isolate until either you get a negative test or for 2 weeks if the test is positive

This has been the rule since the start of the pandemic

MollieMaeve · 22/11/2020 14:08

We just had similar - we all isolated until the result
came back (was less than 24 hours) then all but the the DC who has definitely been exposed went back to school/work. They have another 5 days at home to go....!

WindblowingSW · 22/11/2020 14:09

All isolate.

PrivateD00r · 22/11/2020 14:11

Good luck op, fingers crossed it is negative. If it is positive, then he will need to isolate for a further 10 days from the onset of symptoms, I would be cautious and go from when the cough started. The rest of you isolate for 14 days from the same date. Hopefully it is negative though!

LilyMumsnet · 22/11/2020 14:22

We're just moving this over to the covid board!
