Tested positive but feels like flu

JellyTots2009 · 21/11/2020 19:11

Hi I have a weekly test at work and I tested myself Sunday morning. Got a phone call Tuesday to say I tested positive. I only had a blocked nose up to that point.
Since Tuesday I have steadily gotten worse to the point I need tablets every 4 hours.
I have the most awful aches all over my body, hot then cold, my nose is still blocked.
I couldn't lift myself off the sofa today other than to use the toilet and then just now come back to bed.

I've looked up flu symptoms and I tick a lot of them, so I'm wondering if these are actually covid symptoms or I've been unlucky and caught covid and flu at the same time?

Just after other people with/or had symptoms similar to mine and how long it took for you to fully get over it.
I hope to be able to clean my house at some point in the next few days but atm it's impossible.

Why on earth do you think these are not covid symptoms? You have covid not flu.

satnighttakeaway · 21/11/2020 19:19

How do you not know that Covid effects cover pretty much anything and everything, some people hardly notice, others end up in hospital.

What tablets have you been given? I suppose they could be giving you flu like side effects and you have asymptomatic covid but I'm not medical so no idea how possible that is

FredtheFerret · 21/11/2020 19:22

Of course these are Covid symptoms! I've had exactly the same.

Covid is a respiratory virus - like flu. It's unsurprising that you feel like this. Be prepared for the shattering exhaustion that post viral fatigue can bring.

I'm a month down the line from a positive test and feel utterly exhausted still. Signed off for another month.

FredtheFerret · 21/11/2020 19:23

My GP helpful told me in positive tones that the majority of people with fatigue felt better 12 - 14 weeks later if that helps. Some people have it for months.

I doubt you'll feel up to cleaning your house this week.

Ohalrightthen · 21/11/2020 19:25

... you're aware that Covid-19 and flu are two versions of the same type of disease, right?

Isolate, get a home test, do not go anywhere or see anyone until you have a negative test.

Jeez.

JellyTots2009 · 21/11/2020 19:39

Just paracetamol every four hours

OP posts:
JellyTots2009 · 21/11/2020 19:40

I noticed in my OP I didn't say I was isolating but I thought that would be obvious. Seeing as I got a positive test.

Jeez.

Paracetamol should be every 6 hours OP, no more than 8 in 24 hours.

pickledplumjam · 21/11/2020 19:47

You can alternate with ibprofen. Good luck OP!

Jrobhatch29 · 21/11/2020 19:49

Jeez.

You obviously didn't read it properly considering she's already got a positive test.

Hope you feel better soon OP. It's quite normal to feel flu like. My cousin just recovered as well as a friend and they both said it felt like flu

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 21/11/2020 19:55

What makes you think they're not covid symptoms?
How do people still not know that this virus has so many different symptoms and sometimes none. What are people struggling to understand?

Ilikewinter · 21/11/2020 19:55

Paracetamol is every 4 hours, iburofen is every 6 hours.

Livy178 · 21/11/2020 19:57

Jelly . I had covid in May . Felt like a flu for me but I completely lost my taste and smell. I urge you not to think about housework . I felt better one morning , changed my bedding, hoovered and showered and washed my hair , ended up back in bed for a few days straight so I would advise taking it easy for a while . Hope you feel better soon

SophieB100 · 21/11/2020 19:58

I was unlucky enough to get swine flu four years ago. Temp was through the roof, was hallucinating, vomiting and off my head. Couldn't get out of bed and crawled to the loo. For two weeks. Lost 16lbs. Two weeks later my son virtually carried me into the doctors (they wouldn't do a home visit) who confirmed it.
Took 6 weeks after that to start to feel better.
GP fairly certain that I had Covid in March this year (before testing outside of hospital).
Horrible viruses - but all part of the same family OP. Under the umbrella of "Coronavirus".
If, and I don't know for sure, I had Covid in March, then it was by far the lesser of two evils.

Alternate the paracetamol with ibuprofin (take them four hours apart). Take the ibu with food - even a biscuit or milk.
Rest, and rest and rest some more.
Take care.

NightmareLoon · 21/11/2020 20:02

Flu isn't a coronavirus, it's an influenza virus!

But yes, the symptoms can be the same/broadly similar.

wonderstuff · 21/11/2020 20:05

I felt not as awful as flu but it lasted longer. I was in bed for a week, sleeping probably 16 hours a day. Took a few weeks to get back to normal.
Sorry you're feeling rubbish, it's unlikely to be flu and covid, they have similar symptoms.

Also agree that paracetamol, although you can take at 4 hour intervals, is no more that 8 in 24 hours, because you are likely to be taking it for a few days best to have it every 6 and have ibuprofen in between if needed.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Lightsabre · 21/11/2020 20:11

Look up the My Lungs threads on here - all sadly familiar. Some of us are 6 months in now...

SophieB100 · 21/11/2020 20:12

I stand corrected @NightmareLoon
Sorry - what I was trying to get across was that there is a cross over with the symptoms.

policeandthieves · 21/11/2020 20:14

Paracetamol is every 6 hours max of 8 in 24 hrs ( 4g total)
Ibuprofen is every 8 hours max of 6 ( if they are 200 mis each) in 24 hours usually although can be more in specific cases.

SunbathingDragon · 21/11/2020 20:15

Hope you feel better soon. Flowers

What you are describing sounds like a relatively mild form of covid-19. I know many people and the media would have you believe that the virus is nothing to worry about but it really is. It tends to be asymptomatic, mild (as you describe), medium (possibly need medical support) and severe (ICU).

policeandthieves · 21/11/2020 20:15

200 mgs

Audreyseyebrows · 21/11/2020 20:18

@policeandthieves every 4-6 hours for paracetamol.

ButterflyBitch · 21/11/2020 20:23

I had covid and so did my husband and we both felt like we had the flu. Body aches, sore throat, headache, fatigue, cough, he lost his sense of taste after 5 days but I didn’t but it genuinely felt like flu.
Lots of rest, fluids and painkillers.
I felt more ‘covidy’ when I was poorly in September and I couldn’t breathe, tight chest, cough, fatigue but my test came back negative then. That was scarier because I couldn’t breathe properly.

policeandthieves · 21/11/2020 20:25

@audreyseyebrows not prescribed in hospital as such and only if as pps have said if you don't take it for the full 24 hours.
V narrow window to overdose so sensible to stick to 6 hourly

ButterflyBitch · 21/11/2020 20:26

Oh yes and definitely forget the housework until you’re better. It’s really important to rest.
