Caught Covid outside? :(

Threelittlegins · 21/11/2020 10:14

My husband has been working from home for months.
We don’t go to a supermarket we have food delivered and we always wipe it down.

Since lockdown began the only places we have been is for a walk.

I take my DS for a walk to our local park most days. (Only a baby so we don’t use the play area)

On Tuesday I met up with a friend and we went for a walk around a local lake.
It was quite busy but I never had close contact with anyone.
A few runners did run past quite close though.

Me and my friend distanced the whole time.

Before our walk we visited the cafe for a takeaway coffee. It’s all done outside so we didn’t have to go in.

I did drink from a disposable coffee cup but sanitised my hands when I’d finished, washed hands when I got home.

This morning I’ve got a sore throat and a tickly cough. 😖
I’ve ordered a test.

@SurferRona

That’s true for some viruses *@justanotherneighinparadise*, those which are latent such as herpes as you’ve said, also varicella, hepatitis etc, but not for coronaviruses, rhinoviruses, flu - respiratory viruses are generally not latent. The infected person’s immunosystem can cause longer term organ damage, but that isn’t due to a latent virus flaring up again.
The opening post lists sore throat and tickly cough as the OPs symptoms. Exactly the symptoms I get when Im run down and that 98% turn into nothing at all and go away by themselves after a few days. I think my body is just generating these symptoms all by itself when I push myself too much on a lack of sleep/stress/too much exercise. I generally never sit around wondering if I have a Coronavirus.
Threelittlegins · 21/11/2020 12:14

Okay well I’ve ordered a test which will arrive tomorrow so I’ll just have to wait and see what the results are.

To be honest, joggers do really annoy me.
So many times they’ve come up from behind me and are so close I could touch them.
No respect for social distancing what so ever.

I have asthma and I also have ankylosing spondylitis which is an inflammatory condition. So yes I do think I’m vulnerable to Covid.

GreyishDays · 21/11/2020 12:16

Could your sore throat and cough just be chases by change in temperature? I have a sore throat for half the winter. Also if you have asthma it might be an asthma cough.
Or a tree pollen allergy?

I am also struggling to see how you’ve picked anything up. Smile

GreyishDays · 21/11/2020 12:17

*caused by a change in temperature

raviolidreaming · 21/11/2020 12:17

What I don't understand is why, if we are all following the rules, people are still catching colds? (The common cold is a corona virus)

Most common colds are rhinoviruses.

MarshaBradyo · 21/11/2020 12:18

Op can you update with result?

I am interested in whether so little contact has resulted in positive test

Glumgal · 21/11/2020 12:19

I doubt very much it's covid but I guess you'll find out when you get the test results back.
I am a supply teacher and get the symptoms you've described every single time I go into a new school. I mainly work with KS1 and early years children so it's impossible to avoid being coughed or sneezed on.
I'm pretty sure I did have covid back in April at the start of the first lockdown - had no taste or smell at all for 10 days - but it was before it was a recognised symptom and before tests were available. I've had an antibody test since which was negative but my husband came out positive for the antibodies. I've not had any symptoms since that have made me think this is covid. I think at this time of year we are all bound to get the normal winter bugs that do the rounds every year.

Jrobhatch29 · 21/11/2020 12:20

OP I get sore throats all the time during colder months. It's not necessarily a virus it could be the change in temp, heating going on etc. Also I get a sore throat and sore chest if I'm just a bit run down, tired and espscially if I'm anxious. It's good you ordered a test but unlikely to be covid

Threelittlegins · 21/11/2020 12:20

Honestly OP reading this was a waste of time. Your test hasn’t even arrived yet! Then you’re going to do the test, post it back, wait for the results... There is no point worrying or speculating. Nobody here knows if you’ve got Covid.

Yes it can be caught outside but it’s less likely and probably will be mild due to lower viral exposure.

Threelittlegins · 21/11/2020 12:24

@Lucidas

Honestly OP reading this was a waste of time.

Don’t read it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s a forum. I apologise my post was a waste of your time.
I posted for a bit of reassurance and support whilst I’m feeling quite anxious.

Op last weekend I woke up with a headache and nausea. Didn't think anything of it until someone mentioned getting a test, got the results today- positive.
No cough, temp or loss of taste and smell.
I've just had to do the track and trace and there's a bunch of symptoms. People are walking around infecting others because they just think they've got a cold or a bad headache, I went to work mon-Wed god knows how many I've put at risk.

Skipsurvey · 21/11/2020 12:26

but @justleavemebe
you cannot allow people to stay at home with minor symptoms, there would be no workers.
people need to socially distance/mask up

PurpleDaisies · 21/11/2020 12:27

I am interested in whether so little contact has resulted in positive test.

Whether the op is positive or not won’t be evidence for that. It is pretty much impossible to say where anyone has actually caught covid from.

justleavemebe · 21/11/2020 12:29

@Skipsurvey I've been very careful and wear a mask at work. Sanitise and wash my hands all the time, socially distance the lot. There's no telling where I've caught it from.

Posturesorposes · 21/11/2020 12:31

This is not how you will find out an answer to your question either way. First of all, this isn’t any disrespect to the OP, I would say this of any anonymous internet poster - including myself - we have no way of verifying whether the OP’s update is true or not. Like I said I would say this of me too in my own role as as anonymous internet poster. Secondly, if the result is positive it will not be definitive proof of anything. Likewise if it is negative - same thing. At best the OP’s update will be an anecdote reported by an anonymous internet poster.

JS87 · 21/11/2020 12:33

Did you drink alcohol or go running yesterday? I sometimes get a sore throat if run down/ have done a long run and it goes away again the next day Happened quite a bit in lock down when we hadn’t seen anyone. I think sometimes it’s just your immune system flaring up for no real reason. Might not be a virus at all. Or if you’re prone to strep throat or perhaps have previously had ebv it could just be a flare up.

Oh I know.

But I do want to hear what it is. I’m not going to make any decisions based on ig, fully aware it’s just the internet etc.

MarshaBradyo · 21/11/2020 12:35

Plus op could not bother as some replies have been a bit harsh.

Kittykat93 · 21/11/2020 12:35

There's gonna be hundreds of these threads all winter. Every little tickle in the throat or single cough everyone will be panicking.. Nothing to suggest you have covid at all op. You have a sore throat (which I don't even think is one of the main symptoms anyway?)

Threelittlegins · 21/11/2020 12:36

@PurpleDaisies

Whether the op is positive or not won’t be evidence for that. It is pretty much impossible to say where anyone has actually caught covid from.

In my case if I’m positive then it must’ve been from the walk with my friend.

Other than that me and DH have been for local walks around our very quiet local lagoon.
We see probably 1 or two people most times we go!

OP posts:
woodyLdn · 21/11/2020 12:37

There are many many viruses out there. Why would you assume it's Covid? I wouldn't have even ordered a test with those symptoms.

Inkpaperstars · 21/11/2020 12:37

@tenlittlecygnets

A sore throat isn't a Covid symptom. Nor is a tickly cough.
Yes, they are both common symptoms.

Nurseries, schools, workplaces of course the cold is still going to fly about like it always has.
