If people would stick to the rules...

We've had to close our first bubble at school today. A member of staff tested positive after being in school (and getting sent home) with symptoms on Monday.

He'd caught it from his mother who, if he'd followed the current rules he wouldn't have seen. He had a good reason, but that's the point, everyone has a reason.

Anyway, if he'd followed the rules, hadn't seen his mother and/or had isolated as soon as he had symptoms the bubble would still be open.

I know people think the rules are stupid, I've agreed many times that some seem counterintuitive, especially when you're working in school, although I have followed them throughout but, if followed, they will make a difference to cases and school closures.

He had a good reason, but that's the point, everyone has a reason.

There's exceptional circumstances and emergencies. 'I can't be arsed' or 'i'm bored with it now' aren't valid reasons. I'd agree though that everyone will class their own needs as exceptional.

If someone is breaking the rules for exceptional circumstances then they shouldn't be putting others at risk by going into school or work. They need to self isolate. Certainly if they have symptoms. That's just reckless.

Hayeahnobut · 20/11/2020 18:06

What was his reason for seeing his mother? If there were exceptional circumstances, then it's unlikely he did break the rules.

WhoopsSomethingWentWrong · 20/11/2020 18:07

How do you have so much info about the reasons the teacher was visiting his mother?
DD’s bubble closed because the teacher tested positive. No one in the class did. I have no idea where he caught it... his medical information is none of my business.

AcornAutumn · 20/11/2020 18:09

It can’t be said with any certainty where he caught it.

As for everyone following rules, it won’t make a difference unless you want to lock people up in camps and not allow food shopping etc. You probably do want that.

AcornAutumn · 20/11/2020 18:10

He shouldn’t have gone to school ill, that strikes me as a problem.

OverTheRainbow88 · 20/11/2020 18:13

Maybe the member of staff is their mums support bubble?

What’s the point of your thread?

OverTheRainbow88 · 20/11/2020 18:14

@AcornAutumn

It’s hard though as so many teachers are ill Nov-jan time.

I usually get a sore throat beginning of nov and then coughing etc and feel pretty rotten until after the Christmas holiday.

PurpleDaisies · 20/11/2020 18:15

The big issue is him being in school with symptoms.

Where he caught is is just playground gossip.

onedayinthefuture · 20/11/2020 18:16

So this man went to see his mother and he should now be put in the stocks? I assume he didn't know his mother had Covid at the time of visiting so cut him some slack.

TheGreatWave · 20/11/2020 18:21

How are we deciding what is a good reason? Are they in a bubble?

OverTheRainbow88 · 20/11/2020 18:21

Also it’s more likely that he caught it from the 1000 kids he’s around daily than his mum

I do understand that

But in these days, people know they risk putting others in isolation for 14 days, which really sucks.

The poster wants to pontificate about roolz and assume the worst of everyone, is the point of the thread.
IHeartHounds · 20/11/2020 18:30

So a teacher has coronavirus and the local people are trying to blame him for getting it. He probably got it at school.

cologne4711 · 20/11/2020 18:32

It's really stupid that people "blame" people for catching covid. Woud you blame people for getting a cold, or flu, or chicken pox? If not, why covid?

TheGreatWave · 20/11/2020 18:36

Because they have managed to convince us that it if we follow the rules it will stop the spread, therefore if you get it you must have been doing something you shouldn't have.
MargosKaftan · 20/11/2020 18:40

You can follow the rules and still get covid.

The rules aren't aimed at ending covid spreading, just slowing it down to a level the NHS can cope with. This has always been the case.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 20/11/2020 18:42

He'd caught it from his mother

Maybe he caught from an asymptomatic child or member of staff......who knows he could have caught it from you.

BecomeStronger · 20/11/2020 18:51

When I say "we" I mean the school I work in Grin My facts are straight and exactly as he told them to me. "Reason" is that she wanted to see GC.

OP posts:
BecomeStronger · 20/11/2020 18:55

Of course you can follow the rules and still catch it and yes I understand the rules are about reducing transmission rates, not eliminating transmission. Transmission would have been reduced by at least one if he'd followed the rules. We shall see over the next few days if our precautionary measures in school worked!

OP posts:
Northernsoulgirl45 · 20/11/2020 19:34

You don't know for sure he caught it from his mother. Probably should have isolated as soon as he had symptoms though. That is the only unreasonable bit

WhoopsSomethingWentWrong · 20/11/2020 19:57

I think blaming people for catching a virus is not a road we want to be going down, really.

Good to hear this. People seem determined to blame.
pincertoe · 20/11/2020 21:38

We had a member of staff who lives with parents and one parent was waiting for teat results come into work. He then got sent home with symptoms and later tested positive. The rules around this are not difficult to understand. We are a supportive employer and staff are being paid if they need to self isolate.

tappitytaptap · 21/11/2020 02:55

Maybe he is in a childcare bubble with grandparents, most people I know with young kids are? Though totally agree he shouldn’t have come in with symptoms!
