Has anyone done an antibody test?

I sent off my gov finger prick antibody test on Friday last week and the website said that results come between 3 and 7 days. I’m wondering if anyone else has had to wait much longer?

It’s obviously not urgent as I don’t need to self isolate like with an antigen test but I’m curious to know.

How do you get hold of one? Thank you.

OldAndWornOut · 19/11/2020 23:40

Mine came through in about 3 days.
This was about 3 weeks ago.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 19/11/2020 23:42

I did the £39 ome from Testing for All. I was surprised it was negative. But then I think I had it in March, so if I did antibodies may have gone. Or maybe In didnt have it...really wished I'd been able to test earlier!

Rhayader · 19/11/2020 23:44

@Crumpety I registered on the website saying my nhs number and my job and after a few weeks they asked me to do a test. I think it’s for certain occupations.

Thanks @OldAndWornOut

Yes took test as part of a study. Pretty sure I had the virus back in March but a few months later when I took the antibody test there were no antibodies. I have heard the antibodies don’t last long which may not bode well for vaccines.

Rhayader · 19/11/2020 23:47

Which study are you in @SheeshazAZ09?

Unrelated to this, my household has also been asked to do a 10 minute rapid finger prick test AND and intravenous test for the Virus Watch study that we are a part of.

I think the vaccine response is better thankfully. The antibody test doesn’t measure T cell response, so maybe underestimating immunity.
I work I a secondary school do wonder if my occupation might be included @Rhayader? Thank you.

Rhayader · 19/11/2020 23:53

Yes I think it’s healthcare, social care and education. @Crumpety

I’ve also been asked to do an antibody test as part of the Virus Watch study in the “coming weeks”. Currently no reason to think I’ve had the virus but it will be interesting to find out the results (and I’m a doddle to get blood from so win win!).

fuckweasel · 19/11/2020 23:57

I’m doing the Scottish government study of education workers. My results came in two days.

Bingowin · 19/11/2020 23:59

My sister has regular antibody tests (she works in a hospital) and is still showing antibodies, she contracted the virus back in March and wasn't that ill.

Crumpety · 20/11/2020 00:01

Oh it says in England that you have to work in social care, so I can’t request a test I don’t think.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 20/11/2020 00:04

There was anither thread I posted on when I got my results. It seems some people who actually tested positive in march/april still had antibodies but many didn't. Often women if I remember correctly?

KriKay · 20/11/2020 00:19

I did antibody test about 1 month ago. I’d never had any symptoms, so not surprisingly it was Negative, it took 1 week to come back.

I have since tested positive for covid just last week!

SourMilkGhyll · 20/11/2020 00:19

Took 8 days for me.

OldAndWornOut · 20/11/2020 00:25

You can buy an antibody test, but I wouldn't know who to buy from.
I think they start at around £50.

JuliaSevern · 20/11/2020 00:36

Are you ok KriKay?

JuliaSevern · 20/11/2020 00:38

That's good your government are doing that fuckweasel. I can't imagine ours bothering

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 20/11/2020 04:44

@OldAndWornOut £39 from TestingForAll was the cheapest I found it. Very efficient.

McRibpain · 20/11/2020 04:59

I know the finger prick ones weren't so accurate, don't know if that's changed. They were licensed for intravenous blood. We had ours done at work and we were all negative. None of us thought we had had it though.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 20/11/2020 05:00

Yep theres been a change since the ones that were withdrawn (which was why I didnt do it earlier).

MrsWombat · 20/11/2020 06:51

www.gov.uk/register-coronavirus-antibody-test If you work in education you can still register. They've just not updated the first page. Saying that I registered a month ago and haven't heard anything back.

Delatron · 20/11/2020 07:24

With all the new research about t-cells providing more lasting immunity and antibodies either not being produced or waning quickly I wonder if they’ll develop a t-cell test?

Dowser · 20/11/2020 08:03

My did had the finger prick test at home.
She thought she had covid in December
No antibodies

Janetheplain · 20/11/2020 08:08

I ordered the kit on Thursday it came Saturday. Sent back Monday and had the results the next day. I had antibodies and think I had it in March as lost my taste and smell
