To think a lack of taste and smell from an apparent cold doesn’t need a covid test.

Just that really. Probably a silly question. Feel like I have a cold. Snotty, sneezing and congested. No fever or cough. I feel fine in myself. Been home cleaning all day and have a near normal amount
of energy - maybe a little tired but been up since 5am.

Because I’m bunged up I can’t taste or smell properly! This is always a problem when I get a cold. I have ongoing problems with my sinuses too.

First time I’ve been any kind of ill since last Christmas. I know that my cold symptoms do not need a covid test but I assume my lack of taste or smell does not either because it’s quite obviously being caused by my cold!

Aibu?

I do think you should get a test so that you know whether to self-isolate. We are all in this together and many of our actions are not just for ourselves but for those around us.

I realise the idea of having to self-isolate is a pain and you may feel that "ignorance is bliss" - but I think you have a duty to get tested.

I have taken covid very seriously @Mischance. I have booked a test (later on today). I’ve followed all guidelines. I believe dc had covid earlier in the year but not tested. They were very very poorly.. DS also had a test a little while ago. I literally have no social contact at the minute, don’t go out without good reason during this lockdown. I feel fine today. Still a little snotty but I can taste again (I will pretend I didn’t have a chocolate bar for breakfast to test my taste 🤣) but will test anyway.

I never lost my sense of taste or smell and didn't get the cough till much later. My only symptom was a headache.

Chocolate bar sounds like the way to go!

It is as good a test as driving to test eyesight!!

Update......I've tested positive from having lack of smell/taste. Had flu like symptoms last week but felt fully well when lac of smell became apparent.

Feel absolutely fine.

This is why it’s such a tricky illness to slow down as there are so many more symptoms with it than we are told to get tested for. Everyone I know who tested positive had exactly the same experience as you. Glad you are okay Op. hope isolation isn’t too painful.

I thought I had sinusitis- I suffer with my sinuses a lot. Lost my sense of taste yesterday so got a test and the results came back positive today.

Get a test.
