Will DC still have to self isolate from school when the vaccination has been rolled out?

What will happen here considering there are no plans to vaccinate the whole population. Once the ECV have been vaccinated schools can get back to normal?

I bloody hope not🤞

flumposie · 12/11/2020 09:44

Not really if teachers haven't been given the vaccine.

Cloudsurfing · 12/11/2020 10:17

Hopefully no more need to isolate. Once the vulnerable are vaccinated surely we won’t need any restrictions. The fact that teachers won’t have been vaccinated won’t change this as the vulnerable ones will have.

nether · 12/11/2020 10:20

There will need to be about 13million people vaccinated before they get round to the CEV on the current plan, and then the vulnerable after that

Don't hold your breath for an early relaxation of restrictions

JS87 · 12/11/2020 10:21

I think it is going to take a while to vaccinate enough people for them to relax restrictions. I imagine maybe once over 70s vaccinated? That might not be till the summer.

Cookiecrisps · 12/11/2020 10:24

I think schools relaxing restrictions will have to be done when all other restrictions are relaxed across the community e.g. shops, dentists., drs etc. I can’t see this happening in the next few months whilst community transmission is still high and millions need vaccinating.

Cloudsurfing · 12/11/2020 10:25

Yes it may take a while but once the most vulnerable are vaccinated there should be no need to isolate in schools. By summer would be great!

nether · 12/11/2020 10:30

There would still be over 3.5million people in the queue ahead of the CEV at that point on current plans, and the vulnerable would be after them.

I don't think it is fair to relax restrictions in schools until vulnerable teachers have been immunised

pinkbalconyrailing · 12/11/2020 10:33

too early to tell.
I would suspect that distancing/isolation will still be required for a while yet, as it is unlikely that a vaccination will be rolled out to everyone for some time.

Exactly this! Restrictions are only in place to stop the NHS being overwhelmed. Once the elderly and vulnerable have been vaccinated, the chances of the NHS being overwhelmed are slim and certainly not high enough to warrant any restrictions.

I hope isolating still exists if not everyone is vaccinated or we haven’t got enough to give herd immunity as teachers and children still deserve protection.
Cloudsurfing · 12/11/2020 14:24

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss well I think this unlikely to happen as restrictions including social distancing and isolation strongly impact workers and the economy, as well asha in a huge impact on children’s education. Once the vulnerable are vaccinated there is absolutely no need to have these restrictions as the NHS won’t be overwhelmed. Added to the fact that a lot of people just won’t abide by it by that point so no point having it. The general population won’t likely be vaccinated before 2022 because of the world agreement the UN have signed to make sure poorer countries get the vaccination to their vulnerable, there’s no way we will have all these restrictions until then. The general population will just have to get on with it, with the little risk the virus poses to them.

Hyperbolistic · 12/11/2020 15:18

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss I think the teachers and DC who are vulnerable to and need protection from Coronavirus will be able to have the vaccination.

Keepdistance · 12/11/2020 16:04

I think they will. But probably shouldnt as it's not very fair on the other age groups 60/50/40. And any people who cant have vax.
Also vax would have to be able to be used on vulnerable kids.

Maybe they could remove restictions in the summer holidays so less risks. Though as it is there isnt really any restrictions on kids so they might all have been exposed by then.
Also wonder how many would be left with long covid including children. Plus if everyone not vaxxed keeps catching it over and again.

Keepdistance · 12/11/2020 16:04

I mean i think they will stop isolating

CarrieBlue · 12/11/2020 16:08

Teachers who aren’t vaccinated will still get ill. There are teacher shortages anyway so schools will shut in the same way they do now for norovirus - no healthy staff available.

lunar1 · 12/11/2020 16:30

I think isolating if positive or a close contact will remain for a while. It will probably be one of the last measures to be dropped. It will take a long time to get the population vaccinated and there will be vulnerable people not able to have the vaccine.

If we want everything open we will have to keep the active cases in check.

Yes they will still get ill but the younger ones without other conditions are unlikely to need NHS intervention which is what the lockdown and restrictions are all about. The fact schools will be short staffed is probably something that BoJo and his cronies don't give a stuff about because they haven't so far they'll continue with the stern "schools are open " line without acknowledging the fact theres no staff to actually teach anybody. I think eventually it will get treated similar to when norovirus is circulating, only the infected person will isolate not close contacts.

Sod that for a game of soldiers.

I am an older and “vulnerable” (but not extremely) teacher. I’m a long way down the list.

No hands, face or space for us. Isolating known and potential cases is about the only protection we have.

If lots of young and non-vulnerable teachers get sick, teaching will still be disrupted.

flumposie · 12/11/2020 17:39

@HipTightOnions I'm in exactly the same position as you. Not all teachers are young. Seems we are easily disposable.

Hyperbolistic · 12/11/2020 19:04

@flumposie and @HipTightOnions I thought the over 50s were on the list.

OP posts:
AlexaShutUp · 12/11/2020 19:08

Plenty of younger people without underlying health conditions need NHS care. A third of the under-forties who have died from covid had no underlying health issues. I think teachers deserve to be protected!

HipTightOnions · 12/11/2020 19:17
**@flumposie* and @HipTightOnions* I thought the over 50s were on the list.
Over 50s are priority 10. Priority 11 is “everyone else”.

Cloudsurfing · 12/11/2020 19:35

@HipTightOnions @flumposie what would you like to happen then? Restrictions until 2022? No ones going to go for that. Realistically there won’t be enough vaccination to cover all workers that can’t socially distance next year as we have to make sure other countries get their vulnerable vaccinated too. Do you seriously think education should be disrupted until everyone can be vaccinated?

Funkypolar · 12/11/2020 19:44

Children under 18 aren’t going to be vaccinated.
