Will DC still have to self isolate from school when the vaccination has been rolled out?

What will happen here considering there are no plans to vaccinate the whole population. Once the ECV have been vaccinated schools can get back to normal?

I would like a vaccination thanks! 50, with asthma and 2 autoimmune conditions yet still expected to teach all day with no ppe or distancing. Jab me up and I might feel a smidgen better about it. I strongly suspect i'll be way down the list though. Teachers haven't exactly done very well in terms of getting support, cash or help so far. Shut up and just get out there seems to be about the size of it.

NuttyinNotts · 12/11/2020 19:51

The initial doses of vaccine are only enough to cover the first few categories of priority. They might not even reach the working age CEV population. Parents who are shielding are currently expected to send their kids to school. Would that still be expected if the vaccine roll out hasn't reached them yet and the isolation requirements have been scrapped?

Cloudsurfing · 12/11/2020 20:01

@NuttyinNotts the initial doses aren’t enough but we have ordered more and it will come in batches. It’s also likely another vaccine will be ready after Christmas too. So if all goes well the CEV and elderly should hopefully be vaccinated by spring. Once the most vulnerable have been vaccinated there’s no reason to carry on isolating in schools.

flumposie · 12/11/2020 20:01

@Cloudsurfing no I expect isolation to continue in schools if vaccinations are not widespread. I expect some protection whether it be that, open doors and windows and masks in corridors because frankly that is all we have.

Hyperbolistic · 12/11/2020 20:04

There's other vaccinations in the pipeline too so hopefully won't be as long as you think before CV older teachers can have a vaccination as well as vulnerable parents.

Given that the vaccine hasn't had its full approval yet as far as I've read no one knows the fine details of what might happen. We can't do anything about it so I'd wait and see, one thing we've learned is that things can change very quickly and nothing useful is gained by speculating

To be fair it should be when it is available privately.
Also is it clearhow many of the younger ones dying are cv rather than cev.
Also key might be likelihood of second infections. Or kids who were unlucky and hospitalised if they start catching every 6m.
I wouldnt be surprised if there were a lot of suicides in that situation (no likelihood of vax for you and you keep catching very badly).

If we arent going to vax certain groups gov need to look at fortifying food with vit d to make severe reactions less likely.
Also 90% is very high, but i have 4 family members over 60 so is that 40% chance the vax wont work for one of them.

For the CV they would be better off to stay home until it has blasted through if they havent been vax and the herd immunity might make it safer

So what about the teachers who are clinically vulnerable (not extremely) and not 'old'? It's ok if we die?

And no I'm not being dramatic, a medical professional has stated that the effect Covid could have on me is unknown and that there is a significantly increased risk of death if I were to catch it.

Oh and before anyone spouts the "but your ill anyway" line, my condition is well managed, doesn't affect my ability to work and as it stands isn't likely to significantly shorten my life span under normal circumstances (I'm very lucky that there are very effective, low risk treatments should my condition worsen).

Minus a small handful of years and one autoimmune condition and I'm the same as Phleb,

loads of physical contact with autistic pupils and no ppe or masks. Watched one spit deliberately in a colleague's face last week.

Head indicated in a discussion I'm unlikely to get the vaccine.

So many friends of mine can control their contacts. I simply can't.
