I know people have it far far worse than me but...

I have a month old baby and a toddler. Toddler goes to the childminder twice a week - wednesdays and Thursdays. I am DESPERATE for a break.

I've got what I think is a.cold but I've got a cough with it. I'm almost certain it's just a cold but obviously I dont know so I'm going to have to isolate and keep DS off.

Like I said, I know its pretty- I'm just gutted. I'm knackered and parenting both of them in this lockdown is hard enough as it is.

Gah.

Are you a single parent OP
Vaquita5 · 11/11/2020 02:18

Can't help, but maybe not many people up & didn't want you to go unanswered. I've never had/wanted kids (too much work!) - hope you get a break, & get better, soon X

OhToBeASeahorse · 11/11/2020 02:19

No DH works from home but is crazy busy atm - didnt come to bed til 3am yesterday.

Where is the dad/s?

KittCat · 11/11/2020 02:21

X post. He needs to parent his kids.

jessstan1 · 11/11/2020 02:22

If you have a cold, and it sounds as though you have, why not send your older child to the child minder and relax at home (as much as you can with a baby)?

It would be awful if we all thought we have caught the dreaded C every time we have a cold and cough.

OhToBeASeahorse · 11/11/2020 02:24

@jessstan1 that's what DH says but I'm.just worried that the cough suggests its something else and I would feel hugely responsible if the test was positive and I'd sent DS in.

I'm.hopeful that I will get a result by the end of the day...

OhToBeASeahorse · 11/11/2020 02:31

I really really feel for you. Times like that were bad enough even before Covid. I remember trying to deal
With a very active 2.5 year old when I had mild pneumonia (still horrid!) and no one close to help (Dh couldn't take time off.) And realising that the full time partner (usually the man) gets to rest when really ill while the part time or sahp doesn't.

Make a nest near a screen and ask Dh to give lots of snacks and drinks and try to rest as much as possible.

Fingers crossed results come back soon!

Crakeandoryx · 11/11/2020 06:50

It's a nightmare op I get it. We've been going none stop now since march, both working full-time. Two kids, one ASD and trying to homeschool.

Our work is putting us under so much pressure I've had to take time off with stress before I completely burntout and DH is still going but the signs are there for him as well.

You are not alone, it's incredibly difficult and if your feeling unwell it just sucks even more energy. We've all been digging deep for a long time and we have no help, no support, no community to help pick us up.

All I can suggest op is you lower your standards of parenting and housework. Easy route for a while and kids TV is your friend. Each day as it comes. It's getting increasingly harder to do this but the only way is forward. When you can, get out for some fresh air with the children. I know your isolating and will need to wait until you get test results but hopefully it wont be too long.

Temporarything · 11/11/2020 06:52

Why don’t you get a test? Then you would know for sure?

glitterelf · 11/11/2020 06:58

@jessstan1 That's such terrible advice the op does have 1 of the main symptoms and for many other people who've tested positive there are many more symptoms than just the main 3. The op has a new cough so she should be tested to find out either way.

glitterelf · 11/11/2020 07:01

Whilst it's horrible that you are feeling unwell you know that you have to follow the guidance, book a test and rest up as much as you can even if that means your OH stepping in and helping.

Jroseforever · 11/11/2020 07:02

I’m confused

Why don’t you get a test?

TopCatlivedinadustbin · 11/11/2020 07:03

OP - remember you only need to isolate if you (or a family member) has symptoms. Is the cough dry & continuous? Do you have a temperature? Loss of taste/smell?

Is your DH self employed? Is that why he's working such long hours? Or is he using work as an excuse not to parent? He needs to step up, take some annual leave if he can't cut his hours.

RicStar · 11/11/2020 07:18

Op you know you need a test its annoying but that life. You can't risk taking CV to your childminder - imagine if you did, no childcare for perhaps weeks. As you are unwell perhaps dh can take a day off this week or next. If you are really lucky your test result might be back for tomorrow (and be negative). I do get its rubbish, we have all been there.

ThatDamnScientist · 11/11/2020 07:25

@jessstan1 bloody stupid advice!

A woman I know did that and her her child was sent home from school (and tested positive for covid). 7 months in and people still don't get it. Hmm

ImMoana · 11/11/2020 07:44

Muppet.

Trust me I get it. We had to isolate as a household when trying to get a test. Waiting for the test. Sending the test back. Waiting for a result. It took 7 days and I have 2 small DC. It was negative.

I get what a ball ache it is.

Good news is that was in September and I know from experience that things move faster now. How do I know? Because another member of the household developed symptoms last month. A cold and a cough. The cough wasn’t ‘dry’ it was however persistent.

Despite the previous experience, we isolated as a household. This time we got the test the same day. We got the results 3 days later. It was positive.

I’m so thankful we didn’t send DC into school or nursery while we waited or decided against getting the test because of our past bad experience. I never in a million years thought it was coronavirus because the cough wasn’t what I was expecting. But it was.

I completely get how you are feeling. My DH also works from home so I had the DC by myself for 14 days. Yes he did what he could but it wasn’t as simple as ‘just make him help’, he’s the only one with an income at the moment (lost my business during the first wave).

Getting the test is the right thing to do and you will get through the time at home. Best wishes Flowers

newmummy8789 · 11/11/2020 07:46

Sounds rubbish!
Hope you managed to get some sleep!!
My DS was tested on Monday and we had the results at 6am Tuesday so 🤞🏻for speedy results so you can send yours to nursery!

Jroseforever · 11/11/2020 07:48

Well I don’t get a full drama at this stage

If positive I feel for you desperately OP
If negative, brilliant
Hopefully you find out today

Hugosmugo · 11/11/2020 07:55

Sounds hard op. If you try to get a test at a drive through, they tend to be quicker.

nixpix · 11/11/2020 08:33

If you haven't had a test already, please do. Anyone who thinks they have a cold- get a test. My symptoms started with 'just a cold' slight itchy nose, sore sinuses, runny nose, sore eyes. I would never have thought to get a test if it weren't for for my wife losing sense of smell. I would have absolutely gone to work. The persistent cough is a misnomer, it's more like occasional throat clearing for many.
There's lots of testing capacity in the system now. Don't hesitate to get a test.

Jroseforever · 11/11/2020 08:36

* please do. Anyone who thinks they have a cold- get a test. My symptoms started with 'just a cold' slight itchy *

Not. Good. Advice.
